This dude was singly responsible for me quitting alcohol after having a problem for years.
Nah, you are responsible. Well done man. He’s not making your choices, but only influencing.
@@aaborelli you could say that but I tried to quit for years. I watch a few of his videos and something just clicked in the brain. I went cold turkey from a 4-6 shots or a liter of wine a day. 2 months good now and zero cravings, weirdest thing ever! Before the cravings were almost unbearable.
Congratulations!!! I am so proud of you. Sober is the best high😘😘😘
YOU did it! Episode 86 of the Huberman podcast just reinforced your new lifestyle. 😊
Congratulations!!! Hope you stay sober and keep enjoying life!
I've been drinking between 36-70 drinks a week for years. All it did was lead me to the darkest moments in my life. I've been over 1 month sober now and hoping to never fall back into this lifestyle again.
I think you're amazing for this first month , I hope it continues for you
Keep it up!
Best of luck!
Congratulations brother I hope it's going well for you
Good on you. I quit cigs 20 years ago, and alcohol 8 or 9 ago. What "worked" for me was mindset. Essentially telling myself that the craving or desire will always be there. With cigs I will catch a whiff from someone else once in a while that smells good, most of the time smells terrible. With alcohol I can be around friends that drink, at times heavily. After a long enough time it just became my new normal as they say. I do not crave or desire either at this point. I had to accept that I would have a desire and be ok with that. I hope this makes sense.
If you slip up don't beat yourself up, or worry about how far you had come, like you somehow lost all that work, you didn't, you learned what it takes, just start not doing it again. Just like riding a bike if you fall, get back on. The danger is in thinking it's ok to fall if you "want" to fall.
You made it this far, so you likely know you have to want to not do it more than you want to do it. While also allowing the desire to exist. Happy trails!
I'm 19 months sober from alcohol. I'm addicted to alcohol so i needed to stop, never been happier since I quit.

@@tonylipsmire5918 I drink 2-3 12 packs a week, a decent weight (165, 5’6”). Drinking is easily one of the worst things for you, only thing worse would be hard drugs, cocaine, heroin, meth. I’d probably rather be a gambler, that would require a decent flow of income. But I respect an individual who looks out for others, a cigarette smoker hates being told to stop. But if I wasn’t a smoker or drinker, I’d tell everyone to stop who I saw do either.

TELL ME ABOUT IT SMH 🤦♂️
It’s good to hear someone with so much influence telling the truth and being heard.
I literally never cared for alcohol and never understood why people cant just stop drinking.
I never cared for meth, but I understand why people can’t just stop smoking meth.
It’s an addiction. Alcohol (along with pretty much every other addiction) gets you to a level of pleasure that life normally can’t get you to, and you keep chasing that pleasure. Before you know it, alcohol is the only thing that can get you back to baseline, and not drinking makes you feel horrible. That’s why people can’t stop drinking. It’s both mentally difficult and physically painful like you could never imagine.
I thank God for not even allowing me to drink that poison. So i grew up viewing alcohol as poison and never got close to it
PRAISE the LORD!
Thankyou for spreading truth and knowledge, and not lies!
Who lies about alcohol ? Everyone has always said it's bad if you drink too much.
I've struggled with morbid alcoholism for over 7 years. 90-110 standard drinks a week easily.
I'm on the other side of the spectrum where I can't have any safely at all. It's like giving a vampire a little bit of blood and telling them to stop.. Seriously, pray for me guys. I'm 30 now and won't make it to 40 at my current state.

Never took a sip and never will, is my rule
Alcohol raises your risk of cancer and it can erode your gut lining giving you a host of stomach disorders. Don’t drink daily or in excess; your life will slip away from you in most cases. Always assume the habit will destroy you in the long run, because generally - it WILL!
Alcoholism is rooted deep into my DNA. The amounts of alcohol I was able to consume and be coherent almost killed me. I was supposed to be dead. Stay away from alcohol. Nothing good comes from it.
I’m someone who if I start I can’t stop. Like I can be sober for months. Have one drink and I’m off to the races until I hit a bottom again and rethink it. I’m the only one in my family like this, my other family member have no problem with it
Same here. Once I have a night of drinking, my mind just goes blank and wants that ‘high’ the next day and the next
No alcohol works for me.
My husband has been drinking minimum a 6 pack everyday. He can't figure out why he is tired all the time or why he is unhappy. He's been a longtime alcoholic and only stopped because of having a brain tumor. He picked up again until he had seizures and stopped for about a year.
He has kids from his previous marriage that I have loved as my own. They recently started living with us full time and his drinking has been stronger than ever to the point the kids have been saying something about it to their grandparents and aunt. He also has had a difficult relationship with his dad that he complains about constantly.
I keep trying to show him the alcohol is the problem, but he has let it get so bad that he is blaming all of his unhappiness on our marriage and wants a divorce.
I’m sorry that your family and yourself have to go through this. I’m 24 and struggling myself, it’s a toxic addiction and that wreaks havoc on your life
@BunFight add on 2 or 3 buzz balls and 3 more beers. The 2 or 3 buzzballs are an everyday thing. He spends about $500 a month on alcohol
You probably don't want to get advice from alcoholics online. Six beers a day is NOT normal (we'll, it IS normal for alcoholics). If he wants a divorce you should leave. I loved my partner enough to quit. If yours puts the booze before you then it's over
Get help, look into Al-Anon, support group for family and partners of alcoholics. I agree with above that if he wants a divorce, that’s probably for the best, too, since he doesn’t show signs of wanting to stop drinking.

I don't like drink but I would like a to have a coffee with Dr A
Been sober 9 months ……bought a bottle last night and didn’t drink it,came on here to remind myself why I should stopped in the first place
The thing is, here in Italy, as in any Mediterranean country, we mostly drink during meals, just a glass.
In comparison, Anglo-Saxon countries either don't drink at all, or always need to full send an entire bottle.
That's also probably why our average life expectancy is 80+
2-3 drinks a week is pointless. If you’re gonna drink, drink.
Naw. Glass of wine with dinner is very enjoyable.
That's one glass of wine with dinner mid-week and 2 glasses of wine on Saturday evening. Totally feasible.
I also think it's a general guideline, not a hard rule. Some weeks you might drink more more and some less.
A drink of wine with food is a beautiful addition to the food. 2-3 drinks per week is easy if you are drinking for taste and not the alcohol
I agree! 3 drinks is a quarter of what I drink in an evening.
Scientifically, alcohol numbs taste buds. There's zero evidence wine pairs with food. None. Wine pairs with food in the same way it pairs with sex. Beer goggles make you see and feel what isn't really there. Countless blind taste test studies have been done and even the most obnoxious bourgeois wine drinkers fail these tests time after time. Alcohol free drinks are at their most sophisticated manufacturing level, with alcohol free wines that match regular wine on the chemical level (minus ethanol). Yet people who pair wine with food couldn't care less. Because nobody genuinely drinks wine because it pairs well with food. They drink it because they have an alcohol addiction. Moderated or not. Imagine someone who moderates their smoking by only having cigarettes after a meal on weekends, telling you "I don't have a problem, I just smoke because it improves meals."
I stopped drinking completely 4 years ago and was best decision I ever did. I never was addicted to it but just felt like crap the next day. Non alcohol beers I enjoy way better now.
My worst and last relapse binge, followed by my worst and last withdrawal, showed me exactly how much my brain is affected by the stuff. The only sleep I got for a month was alcohol induced ‘passing out’, I was drinking every waking minute and once I stopped I genuinely thought I was going insane. Not mention being hospitalised because my heart was behaving so erratically. I really think if people could experience just one hour of acute withdrawal they would reconsider how dangerous the stuff is.
I have seizures like an epileptic, if I drink for a while and then stop.

I like a beer every now and then. I do exactly what this guy says; I drink about two drinks every week. I smoke about 15 cigarettes a year and I eat healthy and not too much. From experience I know that not drinking alcohol really improves the quality of your sleep.
Alcohol was the cause of my cocaine addiction. As soon I stopped drinking I didn't enjoy coke anymore and was able to stop.
This honestly makes sense; I stopped drinking and it pretty much immediately turned me off from weed, porn, and other vices. I guess you just eventually stop craving that cheap dopamine reward and you start looking for more fulfilling things.
I quit 7 years ago. Honestly, nothing happened🤣🤣 However, it is healthy not to drink!
I like that Andrew emphasizes that it’s fine to have a couple, rather than being an anti-alcohol person. In my experience socializing is a lot more fun with a couple drinks.
I wonder if there’s any studies on the social lives of those who social drink vs those who don’t. It can be a great bonding experience.
That’s exactly right. We are social beings, and we don’t live ONLY to optimize our physical and neurological well-being.
I'm just as social as I've always been. If the people I'm around are so stress-inducing that I can't socialize with them without drinking, that's a sign that I shouldn't be there. There are way more meaningful ways to bond with people than over substances.
@@mbwilson8592 Not everything is black or white. I'm not advocating to drink every time you hangout with someone. On the proper occassion, it's quite fun. But not all the time
@@mbwilson8592If alcohol and / or drugs is the catalyst that binds you to someone then you need to find new people to hang around with, because you really don't have much in common with those people you're hanging around with currently.
By the same logic snorting cocaine on occasion is quite fun with others. Bonding experience, few laughs, bla bla
I have 3 glasses of wine a year with a cigar. That's the highlight of the year.
I have heard only 2 drinks per week is ok. I have been drinking 20 to 30 beers per week for the past couple of years. I stopped tobacco several years ago and now it's time to stop alcohol.

Ok. So what are we suppose to do to that is right if we drink a few drinks a week?
About five years ago, I used to drink a lot almost every day. I would say about 3/4 drinks a day, but I never felt that I was addicted to it by any means when it came to stop drinking I completely stopped with no issues whatsoever and I want to know how come?
I have an off on relationship. I think I deal with a lot of other addictions that alcohol is a second thought. Im addicted heavily to nicotine and quitting that has been more hell than alcohol. Wasn't ever a fan of not being aware...

All this is extremely subjective especially the sleep part, as a former alcoholic (drank from 4pm - 2am almost every single day for 20 years) I can say that then I had the best nights sleep every single night with vivid dreams & also that was my favourite period of my life, sobriety to me personally is so boring 😂 going asleep sober is the worst, & this is my personal experience, also I’m not trying to promote alcoholism, again it was my personal experience

And I've heard that the amount of quercetin and/or resveratol (the compounds in red wine that provide its health benefits) is fairly low so you'd need to drink A LOT of red wine to see the benefits.
May as well just buy the resveratol tablets
Yes though reversotol is just one component that happens to have been isolated and named "the" active ingredient that is responsible for the benefits. Same with curcumin and turmeric. But there are synergistic beneficial effects of the entire substance on the complexity of human biology, that can't be isolated to one component in a lab.

I'm tired of seeing so many alcohol ads on youtube.. They need to fine companies EVERY time they play one for someone in recovery. 👎 Need to hold youtube accountable period. I should be allowed to mark an ad as 'harmful' and if it keeps happening they get a fine

Alcohol is not my thing either. I had it when I was a teenager and my eldest got married. I got drunk, puked my vanilla stomach out and decided from then onwards, never again and I have seen and continue to see the destruction it brings about. I wish I had more tools to help others because talking alone does not help.
I drink 8-10 drinks every other day and honestly I love it but I'm sick of it.
People can say whatever they want but I've been an alcoholic for along time and I'll be the first to say it's not an addiction. It's nothing more then a habit. Alcohol will effect everything we do in life and should be illegal Not pot. Pot can actually help to make you think more positive and create a habit of it. Nothing good will ever come from drinking alcohol.

Your work is extraordinary; it resonates with a novel that touched on these themes deeply. "Better Sleep Better Life" by William Brook
Please help me I have an alcohol problem and can’t afford help
Think of the person you’d like to become; what you’d like to achieve, long term. Do you want to be a parent? Have a successful career? Be a healthy, physically strong person?
Now realize that alcohol is actively preventing you from becoming that person. In fact, every time you drink, you are getting even further away from those goals. This might sound dark, but you will completely fuck up your life if you continue to drink. Things will not just magically get better; if you continue to drink, you will fuck up your physical and mental health, harm your relationships, ruin your career, and overall turn you into a shell of a human until you turn into an alcohol death statistic with nothing left behind on this world. You need to accept all of that and ingrain it in your mind, and recognize that it is completely on you to take the initiative and sort your life out. Nobody can fix your addiction but you, and it won’t just magically go away.
That being said, don’t let this depress you or cause you to lose hope. In my experience, recovered addicts are some of the strongest-willed people on the planet; it takes far, far more discipline to overcome an addiction than it does to never engage in the activity in the first place. Right now, you have the opportunity to build discipline and turn into a person with enough mental strength to take on any challenge. I used to be highly addicted to weed, alcohol, and porn. If I could go back in time and never do any of those things… never have to deal with the extreme anxiety and depression that came with them, never sidetracked my career, never ruined my relationships with friends and family… I wouldn’t. I’m a better man because I conquered my addiction, and you can be, too.

Is it the primary factor? Some people wouldn't care, how long they live, but about their quality of life. Perhaps some people are happy to live 50-60 years, but not suffer from brain damage, addiction, higher cortisol levels, lower sleep quality.
@Mathias I was kind of making a tongue in cheek joke. 7th Day Adventists present a group of people with long standing sobriety as well as vegetarian eating habits. They are very social and as a whole, are excited about serving others. As you can see, when a group chooses certain behaviors, there are multiple variables. One consistent result of drinking alcohol is increased cancer, because it is directly carcinogenic. There are many more side effects. Sometimes people would rather drink than avoid the troubles, it's just how it is. My aunties on both sides of the family were tee totalers and lived into their mid nineties. Will that be common for people born into the atomic age? In 1945, cancer deaths were 1 out of 100 deaths. Now it's 1 in 2. As far as we know, 100% of people die eventually, and being healthy and able to care for ones self at great age is also very important.
Dark chocolate is actually healthy and alcohol is not bad if you drink 2-3times week but smoking is really bad because lung and heart ilness

I drink wine to just get more sleepy because I'm a person that has trouble getting sleep due I'm a night person
they laugh when they here 3 drinks a week but we’ve been so misguided over the years that 3 drinks in an hour is a “steady pace”
I have this doubt regarding " alcohol consumption" ...it's my general observation , people who take alcohol upto one or two drinks , it's a very happy atmosphere , talking laughing , ( so does it not indicate that certain amount of alcohol in our blood is really good? ) ...but if the alcohol consumption exceeds after a certain amount then situation is really different where they loose their self - control.

I usually have a few drinks a week like he was describing. Maybe sometimes a max of 7. I decided to stop entirely to see if my life would magically improve like so many videos suggest. Literally nothing changed. It seems that it’s for those who have an actual alcohol problem. Yet when I try to find videos about light or moderate drinking, all I get is “no amount of alcohol is safe” and paints it so one sided. I feel like there has to be an amount that only negatively affects your health that’s negligible in the long term.
People just think it's bad for your liver.
It's terrible for your brain and mental health. If you feel even slightly depressed, the best thing you can do is get off the booze and other drugs.
I have like 4-6 a week
