energymc22: you're right! They engineered those damn things to not break off! They will rotate 360 degrees horizontally and 180 degrees vertically. They are on a spring-attached wire cable. You need tools to remove them and if you get in a little fender bender, they won't break off either. I have a 1965 220SE Coupé and it's like that. Over the years, my family has owned 12 Mercedes or so, and those that have the hood ornament are all the same.
