Old school ‘head gear’ used to hurt like hell. I used to wake up in the middle of the night with my jaw & mouth aching beyond belief.

I was given it. It was horrible, couldnt even wear it at night cos as a side sleeper I'd roll onto my side and end up messing up my face. No way in hell would I wear it in daytime or even outside of my room.
Had to have 2 extra teeth out "if you're gonna refuse to wear it"
Oh well. I'd rather that any day. These days they'd have used rubber bands and not removed 6 teeth altogether.

I know this is super unrelated, but I've had really bad dental hygiene for years and I want to change that. The problem is that the bad dental hygiene has made my gums super weak and even soft tooth brushes make my gums bleed a lot. And everyone just tells me to brush my teeth to make my gums stronger but it litterally hurts too much to brush my teeth regularly. What do I do

I wore headgear back in the day. I didn't have to wear them to school based on instructions, but was pretty diligent about it, and I HATED those wires. Much worse than regular braces. I'm super happy for new generations if they don't have to deal with them anymore.
One time, I fell asleep on our knitted patterned very 1980s couch while wearing my headgear, and ended up getting the outside wire stuck in the couch fibres. When I woke up and sat up, and discovered I was stuck, I had to take the headgear off, the wire was all bent out of shape. My ortho ended up giving me extras sets of the headgear because I kept doing stuff like that.

I had neck gear. Underbite. Then elastics. I always hated the appts when I was switched to heavier gauge elastics. My mouth hurt so badly for the next week.

My dentist is trying to convince me that I NEED it and that ill look ugly without it…a few months ago he said I could just use rubber bands with no issues and that it will do the same as the headgear💀

I had glued on brackets, that headgear, power chains, elastics, everything. Took 9 years! Early 2010s maybe late 2000s. My teeth were also quite jacked up to be fair

I had braces 3 times and still haven't learned my lesson to stop losing my retainers. 🙃
I had braces all through high school.
My teeth weren't even bad. My ortho was just overbooked. He only saw me twice one year. 🙃

I remember wearing elastics. I’d be in class and laughing and one would pop off and shoot across in front of me. It grossed some people out, others thought it was hilarious

My dentist gave me headgear and every night at 2 am I wake up and take it off because it’s uncomfortable. It hurts like hell so I only wear it at night. BUT I WISH I COULD JUST GET EXPANDERS… THEY MADE THE HEADGEAR SO I CAN EXPAND THE SPACE BETWEEN TWO BACK TEETH… 😭
