What a really cool panel. I wish she hadn't skipped over books 3 and 4, but maybe that was a time issue. Those covers and drawings, especially the first 4 books, had such a big impact on my childhood because the movies weren't out yet so they were the main visual connection we had to the stories. These are the types of panels I really love, all about a very esoteric topic. Thanks for recording and sharing this!

Me too! I read them before the movies came out and I always imagined Mary GrandPre's version from that time on. Even now when I reread the books the actor's faces just disappear and get replaced with my imagination based on her drawings. Weirdly enough though some of the supporting main characters have morphed halfway between the actors and my former imagination. Occasionally Ron morphs into the actor because out of all the actors they found I was most impressed with Ron. He just has a magically weirdly unique face. Sometimes Lupin morphs into the actor and Snape I have hard time getting Alan Rickman out of my head. Yet Hermione remains completely different from Emma Watson. Hermione just didn't look like that in most people's imaginations. I love the actor though so I'm glad they found the right person with the right soul for the role. Dumbledore looks so different in my head. Hagrid is pretty consistent. Malfoy looks much uglier in my head too.

@@hydraelectricblue In your head, Dumbledore looked more like Richard Harris or Michael Gambon? Or neither, like, far from both?

I remember I begged my mom to buy me oil pastels because I was trying to recreate the book covers.

en n the great hall. Remember that the ceiling reflects the sky! That’s why it looks like there is no ceiling.

It took me years to realize this cover was set at the great hall, and harry was reaching dumbledore wand. lol

I think that was the time Harry just disarmed Voldemort. In the drawing Harry was reaching for the elder wand.

She says it's Ron and Hermione on the Chamber of Secrets cover, but it's Ginny, not Hermione. She obviously misspoke, but I have to correct her 😆
