    I seem to remember Hornby's auto reply says they can take up to 7 working days to reply to an email so any response before Wednesday would be well under target!

    Hi Simon and thanks for the latest update. I have now watched a few YT on this model - obviously yours included, thank you for sharing too and I have now closed down the Hornby page for ordering this as I don’t think it’s good model at the moment. It’s a shame because on paper it sounds and looks great but in reality, it’s unfortunately following the same lines as many other Hornby products these days and to top it off, then customer support seems to be next to useless. If they don’t know their products well enough to say to you that yes, you can indeed turn the steam off with function 24 then they should just all pack up and go home. Hopefully you may get a more sensible response from the managing director once he replies to you. I wish you luck my friend. 👍🏻👍🏻. Cheers. …………Graham

      Hi Graham, well said about Hornby and their non existent product knowledge, I asked them about the Platinum Jubilee HST pack wether it was 8 pin or 21 pin, they eventually emailed me back and said it was 8 pin as in the specifications, I phoned TMC about it and they told me they were 21 pin, so I emailed as many retailers as possible to let them know it was a 21 pin pack, I picked up a set and was not impressed with the noisy motorised roof fans, i disconnected them now because they’re so bad, I will never buy a 21 pin set again because they are underdeveloped and not worth the price tag, you certainly don’t get what you pay for at times from Hornby.

      Many thanks for commenting, Graham, I don't know whether or not to point the MD to this UA-cam listing to show him how disappointed people are with their product. If I get a response from Olly I will let everyone know...Simon

    Hi Adi, Olly Raeburn, Hornby's MD, said if I ever have issues I could contact him direct, which I will do Friday. Very poor service.

    I have a couple of problems myself. On the 9F I want to turn the Firebox Glow off. Also I want to turn those ridiculously bright Lights off on the Turbomotive.

      Some of Hornby's design is limited. Whenever I fit a Firebox Glow I Mapped it to the Shovelling sound, so comes on whenever I played the sound.

    Hi Simon, firstly sorry to hear about your health issues. Now down to hornby. I have a number of their products, mainly hst's and mk3 coaches and when I got them they were reasonably priced, in fact I got some coaches from a couple of shops at £19 that are on sale at hornby online at £44, ridiculous really. I have had a few issues with a couple of other locos though and I too contacted hornby customer support (if that's what you can call them). They eventually got back to me after a month or two and said we'll send you a replacement body for your loco, well that was 2020, I'm still waiting so good luck with your issues. All the best Andy

    Hi Simon, I’m sorry to hear of your illness, I hope you will recover as soon as possible, I did state that Hornby after sales department is not fit for purpose, they are a bodge it and scarper outfit now, I gave up on any help because they pick and choose on what they will do for you, what cheeses me off the most is those idiots who claim Hornby are the bees knees and help everyone who has issues with their products, news flash for those individuals…….Hornby are a terrible company now! I hope you get your money back because it’s not fit for purpose, underdeveloped and rushed out in the hope customers will tolerate the corner cutting and penny pinching.

      Well said, totally agree. I buy a lot from Accurascale and Bachmann now. This locomotive was pre-booked two years ago, which I forgot about.

    • @StormmyStormmy
      @StormmyStormmy 5 місяців тому

      @@SimonLivertonCentral Accurascale do produce models that are superb, they also produce models that every other company in the hobby produce like coke and coal wagons, they rarely produce rare things now, I find them quite boring because there’s nothing new that really gets my attention, the RTC coach pack looks great and would grace most collections, as on exclusive model it will never be revisited again, there are so many RTC livery coaches to model so why not produce the rare ones? Bachmann have the biggest range of them but they aren’t interested even though the secondhand prices of their coaches should be a criminal offence! Accurascale have caused the secondhand prices up with their exclusive only promotion, bad business in my opinion and an open goal missed, those high priced coaches on DreamBay are still there so no sensible modellers will get their pants pulled down, I’ve also seen very old secondhand Bachmann class 37’s in network rail going for £250 dcc ready! Accurascale’s model was a bargain at £259 sound fitted and super detailed! The secondhand market is a total ripoff in some cases, shocking greed is rife in this great hobby, do your research and don’t get caught out.

They took forever to even acknowledge my e mail complaint . Also I'm so sorry to hear of your illness Simon I do hope there's some treatment available

      That black plastic valve gear looks terrible! Typical Hornby corner cutting to see what they can get away with, very poor overrated company.

  • @stephenmarshall9574
    @stephenmarshall9574 6 місяців тому

    I received my Prince of Wales on Saturday, just in time for my birthday. I couldn’t wait to see it running. Straight up to the loft and onto the layout. Disappointment.
    It stuttered and jerked its way around the layout. After checking the pickups and finding nothing wrong I tried again.
    Still the same.
    I then decided to rob a power bank from another TXS fitted locomotive. This cured the issue to a degree but not completely.
    After removing the tender top again I noticed that the insulation around the decoder plug was broken and a few of the pins were exposed and the connections in the decoder were damaged and loose. Hornby could do a lot to improve their quality control. Rather than deal directly with Hornby I have sent it back to The Model Centre who have promised me a replacement. Hope it works.
    On a more serious and important note I hope your health improves. There is nothing worse than being in poor health. I can speak from experience. Nothing is more important than your own well being.

    Hello again Simon
    I wish to provide you with an update regarding my own P2 ‘Prince Of Wales’
    Having complained to Hornby about having the wrong nameplates with my model (Thane Of Fife) I’m pleased to say Hornby have now sent me a replacement accessories bag with the correct’Prince Of Wales’ nameplates.
    Furthermore I’ve made another discovery regarding this model, if you remember I did mention and complain about the lack of steam generated on my model, which is nowhere as good as other UA-cam’s models.
    I have discovered that if you go into ‘locomotive settings’ then click on ‘Advanced CV setting’, scroll down to CV 184 which is listed as F24 volume control (default setting on my model was 33) I have discovered that by increasing the value on this CV increases the steam generated.
    I have set my CV 184 to a value of 255!
    If you decide to submit any further updates on UA-cam regarding the P2, please feel free to pass on this information to others.

      Many thanks for the information, My loco is going back, the wheels have locked up and will not move. It sound like the motor is burning out. As soon as I get an update from the MD I will do an updated video. The wheels feel like water had got to them and created rust...Simon

      @@SimonLivertonCentral
      Hello Simon
      I am so sorry this has happened to you.
      As you quite rightly said in your video, these are not cheap locomotives to buy, Hornby has been around for many decades and should be regarded as a market leader, but instead, it seems Hornby are now falling way behind the field now with so many alternative and worthy competitors.
      I’m still not happy with mine, it doesn’t generate steam anything like what I have seen of other versions shown here on UA-cam.
      I’m still undecided what to do, return it to the retailer I purchased from, or communicate with Hornby and ask if I can have a replacement steam generator which I’m quite happy to install myself.
      I currently have the Hornby Black Five (with steam generator) on pre-order, however I’m seriously considering cancelling this pre-order.
      Something else I haven’t mentioned to anyone yet?
      A couple of days ago whilst running my P2 the sound suddenly became gibberish then a few moments later cut out completely.
      I tried for hours to get the sound back working again by attempting to reset the decoder, but to no avail.
      I decided to take the tender body off and have a look inside, and what do I find?
      The sugar-cube speaker is located in a slot above a small sound chamber and immediately beneath the HM7000 decoder, one of the contacts on the speaker had sprung upwards and was touching some components on the decoder above.
      The speaker had ‘blown’ so I changed this out for another, applied Capton tape to insulate the speaker terminals from the decoder, thankfully the decoder was not damaged and is all working again now!
      However the steam generated is still very weak, even after tweaking CV184 to a higher level!!

    • @SimonLivertonCentral
      @SimonLivertonCentral  6 місяців тому

      All these issues are totally unacceptable, given the time it took to develop this loco. What I can you is my locomotive started to sound funny before it locked up. I have a Black 5 on order, I am looking at cancelling it unless the MD assure me it will be fine, fully tested.

      Hi Simon
      Before committing to returning your P2, it might be an idea to first remove the tender body (three small screws) and just look to see if yours has done the same as mine, the speaker terminals might be touching the decoder situated immediately above the speaker?

    Typical Hornby, overpriced for the average family man + the retired or basic wage (I have always been a Hornby fan since the early 70s).
