Hey Gabe, great video as always and it's great to see McGregor making another run. Just FYI if those marks that you saw on the back end of the club are consistent throughout the set it might just be where they adjusted them at the build shop to make sure they met the specs before they sent them out. That mark is where they are seated in the adjustment saddle. Every club set that I have that I've built I have to have adjusted just a little bit and those marks are on all of my clubs. 1020c is going to be on the softer side of the forged alloys that companies will use so those marks will be unavoidable. I would actually count that as a positive for their quality control being that they didn't just glue them up straight from the factory and send them out.
@@LetsPlayThru that's my guess. But again it's just a speculation. If you see the same mark in the same spot on more than 1 club that's definitely a possibility. Heads will always come out of spec from the foundry to some degree +/- in both loft and lie. Most companies just glue them up and send them out. That's why it's always good to check when you get a new set.. or any set for that matter.
I haven't been able to play much golf this year. So, these videos are so much fun to watch and enjoy. Also, I'm really surprised at the quality of these new MacGregor clubs. Seems like they came out of nowhere, and are really trying to get some attention. Very nice clubs.
Fabulous review.. Would love to see you try the MACSPD hollow-bodied irons, too, if for no other reason than to see if they look as nice in your hands as they do in the pictures on the website. BTW, showing a little bit of the ol' running back shake and bake after that first birdie putt...😆
I played Macgregor blades when I was young in the 1950's and early 60s. My father handed them down to me. I always like the brand. I am a retired doctor and PGA professional. I was a staff member for Callaway, but I am definitely in the market for players distance irons.
Thank you Gabe for a great review. I still game the MacGregor MT Muscle back blades with split level soles released in 1969. They are part of my collection of MacGregor irons that include the VIP, JNP, Muirfield 20th Anniversary, V-FOIL 1025M. MacGregor made great muscle back blades and some of the best game improvement irons like the V-FOIL M455. I will be playing this new set.
So good to see Macgregor back and making quality clubs at competitive prices. I had a set of theirs back in the UK and loved them. Great video Gabe. When is it you go to the Philippines and Japan? Best wishes from Thailand.
Grave channel! This was awesome, what a beautiful set of refreshing looking irons from MacGregor. How awesome it is to see other names like Wilson and Yonex returning also. Keep up the good work!
Great review Gabe. I can tell you I have become a fanboy of the MacGregor clubs. A while back, I did the test, of the 7 iron with the MT86 Pro and MT86 Oversize versions that you can do for a month and then return to them for credit. I was very impressed with the clubs, especially for the value price they are at. In fact, if I had not just rebuilt my current clubs with my new shafts I would be getting a set and putting them in the bag. I also really like the Mizuno irons and if the price is not an issue I personally don't feel like you can get a better iron than the Mizuno Pro series clubs but I feel these are just about as good but at a much better price point. I just bought the MacGregor wedges and put the 52, 56, and 60 in the bag replacing my mixed set of Wilson and Cleveland wedges. I have always loved my Cleveland wedge but I wanted to get a matching set and these are very good for the price. Glad you got a chance to try these irons and review them. I think they will make a resurgence when more people get a chance to hit these because you really can't beat the price for what you get.
Wow, my very first set were MacGregors, in a box! Drivers, woods, irons, and pitching wedge with the bag and head covers! Playing golf for the first time ever on my high school varsity golf team in 1995! Of course I have a par of white 'spiked' MacGregor gold shoes and gloves, using my employee discount 😂 at Super KMart. I currently swing a set of MacTec irons, more sentimental than an ability to purchase a newer full set of irons.
@@LetsPlayThru thank you for all that you do. Very honest reviews of clubs, golf game helps, necessary products that assist us all so we can do our best to simply Play Thru!
Hey Gabe , I ordered a set couple of weeks ago 5 to PW, and it's on its way. I'm excited to give them a hit. Hey Gabe very strange I ordered a set of Ben Hogan PTX tour irons new for 2024,outstanding irons, really pure, but every club came with the same exact ding in the same spot as your McGregors, idk, definitely something to say about the machine it's being pressed in , no way there using the same manufacturing right?? Anyway ty for review and McGregors customer service is outstanding, a few emails back in fourth answered immediately, and nothing seems to be a problem. A+
MacGregor is owned by Golf Division of NV. They licensed the Hogan name from Perry Ellis this year. I believe one of the reasons was they use the same foundry.
Great video Gabe. Always watch to the end even though if I’m not in the market for new clubs. Love the perspective and it’s always fun to see if you make the over/under. Thanks for the great content.
At 10 years old, in 2001; I learned the game starting with a set of clubs that the previous owner of a house we'd just moved in to left behind in the garage, a set of 1948-52 MacGregor Ben Hogan irons was what it was built around (Those years were all the same, don't know what batch mine were from.) The iron set was neat too, 2i-10i, PW and SW. Wish I still had them, they were either lost in a move or my parents sold them and lied about it.
So if we were to match these with the other budget friendly players irons what are your rankings? Tacomo, Maltby, MacGregor, and Ben Hogan. I would love to say Kirkland but since you cannot get those right now e won’t include them. What are your competitive feelings.
Ha, I still play with a 20+ year old set of Golden Bear irons which were made by McGregor if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure they're not great, but they're all I've ever known.
Years ago, I borrowed my friend's irons and loved them! I always wondered about those Golden Bears. My friend doesn't play golf regularly so he just doesn't care much for golf but I never forgot the feel of those irons. No wonder....MacGregors! (didn't know they made the GBs.)
Another great review Gabe. I prefer those where you play as you normally would from your regular tees, rather than moving up to play irons-only, but I’m not surprised at your responsiveness to the community or willingness to try something different. Keep trying the old school, budget, unpopular, or unusual stuff, as few others do it as well as you do and everyone covers the big brands.
I was looking at the MacGregor MT-86 OS and Pro models recently, but can't find a review of them. Hope you can do that. Love your reviews and these Milled irons were impressive.
Hi Gabe another great show, I personally got fitted for some cobra air x a couple of years back now, hadn't heard about takomo, caley, and now McGregor back on the scene, I now know that I will be spoiled for choice on my next budget friendly step up , as I do like the looks of all these new irons now, starting to feel a bit dated with the cavity back, although I did test quite a few of the big brands when I had fitting, it was the cobra's that just felt that little bit better ( for me). keep them coming mate.
My first set of clubs were MacGregors. Irons and a laminate driver, three wood and five wood. I got them when I was 19 at freaking Sears! I am currently 55. They may have been great clubs, I was so god-awful that no one would ever know.
Just took my 4 iron out of the bag a few weeks ago, have played 3 rounds without it and it hasn't really been missed. I game the Takomo 101's and I'm using Wilson D9 4 hybrid, 5 wood, and 3 wood at the moment.
I think the UK version of the mcgregors have a little more color pop. Even though I am not looking for a new iron set, but I am looking at their MacTec driving iron in 18 degrees. Since I can’t hit my 3wood consistently. Btw.. I like the forward tees/ iron only review!!
Gabe now you know how it feels to hit your drive 190-200 yards off tee. Being 81 that's my golf still love the game just move to the senior tees and maybe later the forward tees. BTW take a look at the MT-86 wow what a club.
Had a set of MacGregor VFoil cavity backs in mid 90s...pretty decent clubs....This new blade type cavity back has caught my eye.....Is a Gap wedge available ?
I think for mid-handicapper, 101T is going to offer a bit more forgiveness. A couple othere options would be the Wilson Dynapwr forged or Maltby TS1-IM. Good luck!
Look into the Ram Axial irons. Very cheaply priced and just scored in the top 3 players irons for My Golf Spy. The only irons that beat them out was the TM P-7MC and the Ping I230. When Ram beats out OEM's like Titleist, Callaway, Cobra etc they have to be something special.
It’s too bad they didn’t simply bring back the V-Foil 1025 C & M. Those clubs are hidden gems, especially the 1025Cs. I’ve wish I could find a set that was almost new….

Oh, that’s very interesting. My set came stock I think. But maybe they are checking the lofts before they leave?
@@LetsPlayThru that's my guess. But again it's just a speculation. If you see the same mark in the same spot on more than 1 club that's definitely a possibility. Love these hidden gems of clubs as you are not seeing any reviews on the other channels.
Can't wait to see the head-to-heads!
I'm still using a set of MacTec irons, they just fell familiar.
It’s been a blast trying out all these niche offerings.
I used to carry a set of MacGregor musclebacks. What a way to make a comeback!
LOVE the format of only irons for an iron review. Also a great decision to hit different irons off the tee to have different clubs for approach shots.
Great to watch as you got closer to the end and shots came together. Happy to see MacGregor getting out there again with a quality product.
I haven't been able to play much golf this year. So, these videos are so much fun to watch and enjoy. Also, I'm really surprised at the quality of these new MacGregor clubs. Seems like they came out of nowhere, and are really trying to get some attention. Very nice clubs.

I remember my first set of clubs was a set of McGregor irons back in 1993. Great to see them back in the game.
Can you test the macgregor macspd??? Nobody has done a video on those irons yet
Gabe your game is legit buddy. Really enjoy your channel.
I would like to see all the old school brands make a comeback. They seem to be trying. I hope they succeed.
They have had a ton of turmoil over the years. Agree, hopefully they are back for a long while.
Good to see more value clubs that are performing! Good review.
From high school, 1972. to the late 80's I played MacGregor's MT Tourney blades. Loved the 2 iron. Still have a set of 1972 Tourney Custom blades.

Love the iron only review video format!
So if we were to match these with the other budget friendly players irons what are your rankings? Tacomo, Maltby, MacGregor, and Ben Hogan. I would love to say Kirkland but since you cannot get those right now e won’t include them. What are your competitive feelings.
I think I’d go Maltby, MacGregor, Takomo, Hogan personally.

Hi Gabe, how would you compare the forgiveness level between this one vs. takomo 101t for mid handicapper? I am thinking to get one of them.
I think for mid-handicapper, 101T is going to offer a bit more forgiveness. A couple othere options would be the Wilson Dynapwr forged or Maltby TS1-IM. Good luck!
RAM axial forged golf club is also better option with great shaft choice. They are cheaper than Mac.
How do you rank these compared to the Maltbie irons?
