Back in the early 90's I taped a penny to a mail in sweepstakes from a magazine like this for the Spice Girls! And I waited for that thing every single day for months! But it never came. I was so sad. 😭Wow! This brought me back to those good old days when life was simpler. 🤗
@@leannej7723 I only remember doing the penny part of it. But I'm pretty sure my mom did the rest. I was like 6 or 7 years old. But anything's possible, that could be the case! Lol
This brings back so many memories. I was 9 at the time but my sister was 19 and I can remember her getting this magazine and reading it to me. Geesh huge flash back! Thanks Mary loved this video very much
I'm a millennial born in the 80s. growing up in the 90s and early 2ks we had a nice balance of tech. Social media existed but it was more for fun and creativity at that time. We read magazines too. The source and xxl were some popular magazines when I was in middle school and high school.
I feel like older millennials were the last ones to enjoy these magazines. You almost never hear teens today buying them. I work at a place where they are sold and I have never seen a teen purchase one.
Same! We had the early consoles and the early internet, which was honestly the best thing ever. No ads, nothing commercial, just wacky websites made by other geeks.
Yea, I was in this genre (33) last week. And I would grab XXL when I was 14-15 getting into hip-hop/rap. But the next year's I was all over game consoles but mostly where computer tech was going.
@@childof83 I know he has to remembering downloading music / movies and getting a damn trogan virus. But it was a great time for internet besides for that. Use to be obsessed with AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)
What a blast from the past! I was in 5th grade when this magazine came out. I adored Love's Baby Soft. When I was in Jr. High, my mom gave me the set of perfume and powder for Christmas. And Columbia House! You're totally right on about GenXers growing up in the best era. 😍
I remember buying the TÚ magazines (mexican and in spanish magazines) growing up. Ugh, i loved them. Had a whole box filled with them and followed all the make up tips and the relationship advices even if i didn't have a boyfriend lol 🤡🤣
Loves Baby Soft was the 1st perfume i ever owned. I think I was in 5th grade. I'm 41 yo now and I bought a bottle a couple months ago. Smells exactly the way I remember! It's truly magical.
This is awesome! One of the other ladies I follow just recently did a flip through of old teen-style magazines of the 70's. What a great idea! Many tingles! Thanks Mary 🙂
Ah, the music clubs and the book clubs. Those were a staple. Years later, in the 90s, I used Columbia House again when they were doing CDs. If you worked it carefully, it wasn't a bad deal overall. But don't buy more than than the minimum necessary.
As a gen z, i hope you don’t think of us as so brain dead! me and many other young people love to read books and watch movies, and we do read a lot of content on our phones that isn’t just videos. there’s a lot more to us than you think!
This has been my favorite ASMR from you so far, Mary!! Awesome! I also got a pen pal through one of these "match-ups". We were both eleven and are now in our forties and still in touch!!
So much fun! And sooo relaxing as usual! 😊 Thank you Mary! I remember being a little girl and asking Mom if I could try her makeup, and when she asked what kind I said "The pink and green kind"... The infamous Maybeline mascara in the pink and green tube. 😂😂😂
I remember absolutely consuming these magazines in the ‘80s & ‘90s. In retrospect, I wish I’d have realized that each picture was photoshopped. I seriously thought if I tried hard enough, I could look like those girls! 😛
I enjoy these kinds of retro videos. I was 11 in 1979 so definitely remember how life was back then. I was on the cusp of starting my teenage years in the 80’s, and were the best years of my life and wouldn’t trade it for anything. I remember the fashions then too which were cringey but fun.
Oh wow!!! I had a subscription to that magazine! Every single month I would read it cover-to-cover and then go back and do it over again! LOL Thanks for a walk down memory lane!
Im quite young but I still miss the past too, sometimes all the teens my age suck, u can’t say anything without them regarding you as “weird” or something. And everyone is so boring, always on their phone. I’d say everyone misses the past, we’re always trying to bring it back somehow.
I was born in 1979 and clicked on the video out of curiosity. I really enjoyed it! Side note, I feel like I relate to Gen X as I was a child in the 80's and a teenager in the 90's.....but some people debate me on that. Either way, great video!
I’m an 80s kid at heart and I Total agree They were the best. from movies TV shows and video games at least we went outside and ran are bike down to the hill And had fun and I do miss it
Loved this video,so much..I used to buy a teen magazine called "Jackie" in the 70s.I agree those times were the best! Pre-technology.Had to laugh at the Maxi pads..being the size of a double bed🤣🤣Thanks Mary.
Omg Mary when you opened up the page for Columbia House all the Nostalgia came right Rushing back. Sperti sunlamp really they didn't know about Florida back then. Just come down to Florida to look like an Oompa Loompa lol. To be honest this magazine came out two months before I was born. I know all the music from Colombia house cuz my mom own the stuff she still does. You're right we did grow up in the best time ever we got to watch the computers come into being we got to go ride our bikes and stay out until the street lights came on you can't do that stuff anymore.
I love to listening to your voice . It's so soothing .also you have such elegant hands .would you consider doing a little tapping and scratching in dome of your videos please x
I did the Columbia House thing with the penny. I always wondered what would have happened if the penny fell off. Would they really have not sent me my cd's? 😂
Whisper video please for the second half of this video could you please also do a whispered version your time and effort will be appreciated and thank you
Im a late year millennial (the last of the millennials are 28 and 29 now… geez!) and I love how these magazines bring everyone together lol. My parents were young adults when this magazine came out so I’ve heard them talk about that life style a lot. I’m so curious what that loves baby soft smells like. 😆 can someone tell me what the scent is?? Also I feel like I’m the only person my age who loves Wings ahahaha (:
”The word on good health” right after that ad showing us how to lose inches in just three days! I really hope this type of advertisement is banned on teen magazines nowadays 😬
I never said that no teens would read long articles. Most teens these days would not. I stand by that. Anecdotal examples don't change the fact that kids have drastically shortened attention spans in the modern age. I'm sorry that facts made you dislike my video.
I’m 29 , I love seeing what life was like for my mom’s generation and it’s cool to see what was relevant for teens her age then. ❤ very cool find
Hi, I'm probably at your mom's age and the cover girl 's haircut is still my favorite 😄❤💋

It would have cost more then a penny for that in the 90's thats why you never got it, and there's fine print you'd had to pay shipping too.
