The participation of Yuzo Koshiro creates even more expectations about the quality of the game, giving that excitement of novelty that we had when a new game for the console came out. The 16-bit dream still lives on.
I’m 34 and only really started getting into sega games properly recently as I’ve always been a Nintendo fan first but man I wish I’d had a megadrive growing up! I did play sonic and micro machines at friends houses in the 90s but never owned the system and just feel like I’ve missed a lot but I’m catching up now 😊
I was lucky and a little older when the 4 gen hit. Me and my brother got a SNES for Christmas and I saved up and bought myself an MD a year after launch. It's a great console.
Looks really good; certainly comparable to Thunder Force III/IV quality but also kind of reminds me of something like Last Resort on the Neo Geo. I'm willing to bet that the level designs and play mechanics will be above and beyond Last Resort, and the music being great is going to be a given, so something to look forward to. Thanks for another great episode! The first stage is almost like a side-scrolling version of Xenon2 with very impressive details in the enemies. I thought it would be a TypeR Xenon2 all the way but the later stage presented a totally different backdrop, from dark outer space to bright sunny skies, wow!
he also did actraiser, ys i and ii, portrait of ruin, many many many other games. so remember that not all of his soundtracks were as good as the streets of rage games. sometimes they just capture lightning in a bottle.

I don't think so, that chip is not in production any more so would make it stupidly expensive, probably impossible to produce. More realistically they could put an FPGA in there but that would also make it 3 times more expensive to produce. The graphics are good but nothing in much advance of Thunder Force IV for instance. I think that by now devs know a lot more tricks to make it do stuff that wasn't being done 30 years ago and it's not necessary to add new hardware.
The Genesis doesn't process polygons natively so they have to have something on that board if it's not an SVP. That 3D image that was shown moved pretty fast for not having something under the hood if the programming tricks are true. Obviously, it's not throughout the whole game but this certainly wasn't 3D on the Hard Driving level or Zero Tolerance for that matter. Something has to be pushing it that fast.
@@RetroGamerBoy Richard Kaussler's decap of the chip, along with Javier de Silóniz Sandino's comprehensive mapping of the instruction set, have pretty much peeled away all the secrets of the SVP. 75% of the die is just a sea of gate arrays acting as a very fast multiplier; the rest is some internal SRAM and a DSP to take commands from outside the chip and guide the fast multiplier (along with a tiny clock, as well as an equally tiny ROM chip with the boot code and a 3D algorithm library that Virtua Racing never used). I have no idea if anyone has begun using the information Rich & Javi have dredged up for improving emulation or new SVP software, but it is indeed out there.

The ship effect here is entirely doable with a stock Genesis, though I suspect the programmer is merely using an animation made possible through the vast quantity of game memory available from modern EEPROM tech.

It's coming soon, they are working hard wrapping it up. Check out the artists other games like super xyx, And the programmer made tanser, they both always deliver.

I was always wanting someone from back then too step up and join the scene that exists today. When I saw this on his YT i was so excited, his knowledge todays modern techniques no limit on bits like back in the day. Now im wondering is Sega supporting him n his team. All this without having to worry about running out of hard drive space, making sure I have a stable internet connection or downloading the latest patch or update. I hate to be the one to say it, but that logo makes it look like the games' called 'Ear Theon'. The game does look bloody beautiful and I can't wait to have a blast, though!
The quality of video is fine, if it was recorded on HDMI the colors would be lost and you'd see a mish mash of lines and rasters. People keep forgetting that this hardware, like the Master System and NES before it, was designed with tube Televisions and analog signals in mind. Pixel perfect doesn't suit the hardware itself.
Only someone like Yuzo Koshiro could do magic with the Megadrive that even the most experienced modern MD devs haven't yet reached the level of. It would be a breakthrough if his work would inspire more veteran devs to take a crack at MD game development.

Zero Wing is a graphically nice-looking and relatively easy-going intro to horizontal shmups. Give it a try. Its horrible translation from Japanese to English also spawned some pretty hilarious memes over the years.
