  • SPOILERS in video and description! If you haven't seen this series and don't want to be spoiled, turn away now!
    Around this episode Yuuki Yuuna got darker. Very good show, but first few episodes were a little slow.
    And no, don't compare this to Madoka just because both are dark magical girl series.
    Clip is from episode 9.

      Knowing that it's Togo, she probably did it the first time out of depression and then the next nine times out of experimentation. Equally fucked up in its own way.

    • @PersonaSXM
      @PersonaSXM 4 роки тому +44

      Wall of text since I just rewatched YuYuYu. I've been thinking about it a lot and had to get this off my chest...
      tl;dr - Tougou didn't try to commit suicide and everyone there knew it, even if in practice it was very similar and still a dangerous action. Tougou wasn't anywhere near depressed enough to think about that, especially with Yuuna at her side, and wouldn't want to hurt Yuuna in that way even if she was.
      I'll first note that while 自害 being translated as suicide isn't technically wrong, the nuance of it is more "(majorly) self-harm" more than suicide. 自殺 would've been used if they had wanted the meaning to be explicitly suicide. So more accurately, Tougou tried to harm herself grievously many times over rather than commit suicide that many times. In practice not that different since if she had succeeded she still would've died, but it does change the way her thoughts are framed and the way her words would be interpreted by her friends.
      Yuuna probably also knew Tougou well enough that she knew Tougou didn't try to kill herself anyways, and Fuu was basically just a step from her own mental breakdown. Both of them were certainly mad that Tougou tried to hurt herself to prove her point, but considering the outcome it's understandable they didn't focus on that part.
      I'll also note that while this is Tougou, a girl who's quick to jump to extremes, she's not in that kind of mindset at this point in time since as far as Tougou knows for sure the fighting is over. She also still has Yuuna at her side so she's not in an emotional state to actually be that depressed or anywhere near contemplating suicide. It's only after she goes back to Sonoko and is told the truth of the world that she finds out enough that she snaps and tries to genocide everyone. But even then she still had Yuuna on her mind; that's how much she loves her.
      Because Tougou's greatest fear at the end of season 1 was for Yuuna to forget her. The major reason she snapped was because she realized that she had forgotten her friend and was terrified both of watching her friends suffer, but specifically most afraid of Yuuna forgetting her like she herself did with Sonoko. It's the fear of losing Yuuna that spurs her more than not. And in season 2 she threatens to cut her stomach if Yuuna dies. Yuuna is just that precious to Tougou, and so Tougou is unlikely to actually be depressed as long as Yuuna stays by her side. I mean, Tougou sits at home in a dark room staring at pictures of Yuuna sometimes on her projector thing... the girl is kinda crazy for her.
      Or basically in other words, I'm fairly positive Tougou was just that confident in her hypothesis that she was willing to try to harm herself severely to prove it. Similar to how some scientists have poisoned themselves or some doctors have performed internal surgery on themselves just to prove themselves right, some people are just willing to go really far at times, even to the point of possible death.
      Tougou probably couldn't let things go after meeting Sonoko, what with the emotions she felt that she couldn't tie to any memories. So she did research into her past (as she says to Sonoko in ep 10) and found enough that she came to the conclusion Sonoko was telling the truth. She then tested her hypothesis in the only way she could think of. And since, in a way, what she was really testing was how much she believed Sonoko (who she instinctively trusts even if she can't remember her), of course Tougou is going to be confident that she's right. Tougou definitely didn't believe she was going to die when she tried to harm herself.

      I don't have a well-thought-out essay (though that response is quite interesting and enlightening) and am much more baseline critical of the writing, but I guess I think of it as - Itsuki cared about her voice, so the others and the audience did too. Tougou, on the other hand, doesn't really seem to care about her life (no matter whether her intention was actually to end it or just to experiment after the first time) - she talks about never being allowed to die like that's the worse thing in this equation. The focus, as twisted as it is in this context, is on the element of informed choice, which actually places Tougou/the other heroes LIVING in the category of "painful things we didn't choose" next to Itsuki losing her voice, not her nearly dying/possibly wishing to.

    Well they kinda did react, I get where you all are going at but it’s either they are really be like, “why did you do such things?” or “Are you that crazy?” or “Were you testing something out like usual observant person you are?” But Togo said to them when she said she tried to commit suicide more than 10 times, “the faeries stopped me everytime.” So I guess they are acting calm as they are, not that really surprised and acknowledging the fact that she is still alive and how we think they’re going to over react because if the faerie didn’t stop her every single time, so I can see why they are kinda calm about when Togo told them about attempting suicide for than the amount we didn’t expect to hear at all. But they didn’t know about the truth about the hero’s system and the faeries. And the person to find all this out was after all Togo, along with Sonoko, having the knowledge about the current situation of the system that terribly binds them of their duties that will mentally and physically crush someone if they didn’t know something that dark was hiding behind their backs all along, and being deceived at the same time.

Few things hit me as hard as this did. I'm not sure whether I liked Madoka or this better, but in terms of wrecking, this one definitely hurt a lot more.

I also learned about the prequel Light Novel/Manga and other spin-offs that I might get around to read. My say on the series is that I do wished I could have got on to the series sooner before the finale.

    So this scene right here. It’s supposed to be some big dramatic reveal…… but the issue is that, the characters seem to forget about it immediately afterwards. Like, she reveals to them this big secret, the girls react a bit, but then they move on to some other subject, before the finale comes along and everyone realizes “oh yeah that’s right she literally tries to kill herself multiple times, man we really forgot about that one.” It’s hard to get invested in something when not even the characters can be bothered to remember that one of their friends literally tried to kill herself multiple times.

    • @MMuraseofSandvich
      @MMuraseofSandvich 2 місяці тому

      No. If Fu had forgotten, she would have continued hoping that Itsuki would regain her voice, and the phone call from the record company would not have broken her.
      You are confusing a flashback from Mimori's perspective in the first half of episode 10 with "oh here we gave the girls amnesia", and you are also confused about what the girls took away from this scene. To us, it looks like madness that they disregarded Mimori's multiple attempted suicides, but their hope of temporary loss of bodily function was shattered. They realize there would be no recovery, and this fills Fu with overwhelming guilt and Mimori with despair.
      It might not have been the best editing decision in the world, but it's not easy to convey 2 overlapping story threads like this and maintain dramatic tension.

      Zander Branti You can blame Madoka Magica for starting that trend of showing us a cute magical girl show, then twisting it beyond belief before the audience.
      Then again, the original Sailor Moon was very dark and gruesome for its simple premise where all of the Sailor Scouts died at one point. The creator was creative enough to hide the dark aspects of the anime.

      There's always been a dark undercurrent in magical girl anime, unless the show was exclusively marketed to young girls. Sailor Moon had some pretty dark scenes and could be quite disturbing if you go down the rabbit hole (killed off the entire cast in season 1, turned the kid daughter into a dominatrix in season 2, etc). If anything the stereotypical cutesy anime is a more recent thing, starting with shows like Cardcaptor Sakura. Madoka Magica and Yuyuyu happened to do both the light and dark sides very well.

    Wait, wait, wait. If the faeries make sure the Heroes can never die, even when not in Hero form, why do they use Mankai at all? They don’t need to use it to live, so they could go without it and save themselves.

    • @tuhkapussi987
      @tuhkapussi987  6 років тому +16

      Of course, faeries rely on Shinju in a way. Mankai is basically a super form, as heroes ''borrow'' Shinju's power a bit to defeat enemies. Of course, they DON'T have to use Mankai (to my understanding, at least) in order to defeat enemies, as they can do the sealing ritual, but if Shinju dies, so does everyone else.
      Heroes are necessary, and I think that if those heroes neglect their duties, maybe their power can be taken away. Not sure about this last thing, just a little theory.
      Basically: Mankai is an offensive power-up, and from what I remember, it's not forced upon heroes. They can use it if necessary, but with a cost.

      Mirela Hummingbird they have to use Mankai sometimes because sometimes their firepower isn’t enough especially due to the fact that you have to destroy the vertexes soul. Hence why Sonoko had to use Mankai so many times to get rid of all those. Plus if you don’t defeat them before they reach the shinju it’s all over and Mankai is sometimes the only fast enough way :0

      The exact timeline should be
      NoWaYu (Nogi Wakaba is a hero) They are the first group. The main character Nogi Wakaba is Sonoko's ancestor. This series is only a Light Novel.
      (I believe if you search google for NoWaYu light novel there should be fan translations. Sorry i forgot the name of the site)
      WaSuYu is the next one which focuses on Washio Sumi(/Tougou in YuYuYu) with her friends Sonoko,and Gin. In the end of which Washio Sumi loses her memory, function of her legs and Sonoko becomes bedridden thats when YuYuYu starts. Yuuna is the main character now and Washio Sumi has now become Togo Mimori. The hero club becomes the new heroes selected by the Taisha. They face challenges and by the end they managed to somehow stop the vertex and return to their normal lives along with the after effects of the mankai disappearing. In YuYuYuS2 Its kinda like the Post-war season. Where everybody was supposed to go on with life and school and Sonoko joins the team. Well things start happening again and they are forced to fight Shinju to save Yuuna which they did in the end. With some epic BGM. I forgot if it was implied that they completely stopped it. Because in the NoWaYu LN the only city that existed was their city because it was protected by Shinju. There were others places but those places had also been destroyed by the Vortex.
      Thats all I remember on these series. I recommend you read the NoWaYu LN because it explains a lot of things. I hope this helped your confusion 😊

      Fathnin Alyea the stories are very, very, very different, but they're both colorful magical girl animes with a darker twist

      Only the darker theme than your average magical girl, i hear it started around the nanoha series around 2005, compare to madoka and yuna series, nanoha is like standing in the middle of a busy rode but no one hit you, madoka is like being thrown under the bus and have your body drag by the very same bus. Dont get me wrong, i love all series, when i first saw madoka, i thought i got stab and as the series goes on, that knife was twisting in there lol thats when i realise, anime wasnt as "fun" as i thought lol

    Sorry buddy, but this series desperately wants to ride off of Madoka’s heels so I’m sorry but like it or not I’m gonna compare them.
    If I had to describe the series, it feels like the creators watched Madoka…… but didn’t get the point. In Madoka the characters acted like actual people, while here the characters just act like bland stereotypical anime characters.
    It’s trying to be like Madoka, without understanding what made Madoka so unique and special.

      @的美 in Madoka Magica universe, Magical Girl are sacrifices for their own good and lengthen the universe's age
      They become a witch to lengthen universe's age...
      But in YuYuYu universe Heroes are kinda being tricked for nothing
      Like There is Demon that tricked them, like even how bad your parents are parents are not letting their child to sacrifice themself for them
      And also Sonoko said Vertex are creatures that sent by god to destroy humanity, but there are god are doesn't agree with that so yeah they make like a barrier thing/tree to protect them..
      And they make Hero system too! But i think the god didn't expect the girls have to sacrifice themself...

      what is blud so pressed about?💀yuyuyu literally doesnt affect madoka's status as the poster face of depression magical girl
      yeah yeah we get almost all magical girls after madoka felt like ripoff (🥸👆) that couldnt capture the original but calm ur tits? you re just dragging madoka's name in the mud just to downplay yuyuyu.
      preface: i also like and think madoka >>> yuyuyu so no im not a madoka hater/yuyuyu extreme fan

      YuYuYu's first season and WaSuYu are fantastic. I don't get the hate. It isn't supposed to be Madoka.
