Interesting in this chapter JCB mentioned digging on red embankments twice, both in the beginning and end. Him mentioning emeralds sheen is interesting, too.

Basic Cipher Plays" is the actual message. Anagrams AREa basis cipher. That was my thought

There's an X on map. Just saying... That's a pretty 'clear' indication of where to look if you ask me... I'm pretty sure people have looked there- but idk... Also heard that X is on a steep incline on the side of a mountain. Idk for myself. That's what I heard. Also, that X is likely covered in snow. Also- you see "1727" with "NE" just below the number close to the X. The particular trail in question is approximately (or exactly- I'm not sure) at the 1727 mile marker of the Appalachian Trail. If it's somewhere else, we really have to question why JCB gave us this map with the exact mile marker location.... Meaning, if it's not there - there's something majorly wrong with the way this book is written and laid out in my opinion.

No grand cipher means there isn't one grand cipher used throughout the book. The word search literally says "Basic Cipher Plays" and it certainly "seems" like we're supposed to use anagrams to complete the solve. Also, a cryptogram is at the bottom of the word search. Anagrams and cryptograms ARE basic ciphers. We know we're supposed to solve the cryptogram & the word search tells us basic cipher plays.. No grand cipher means no grand cipher. It doesn't mean no ciphers at all.
