    Also be sure to use stainless staples. Standard staples will rust out in no time.

    Great video! What length stainless staples did you use?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 роки тому

      That is a great question. We used quarter inch stainless steel staples, but it really is a delicate balancing act. We found it very difficult to get the staples into the plastic seat properly; too much pressure and the staples blasted through the vinyl seat. Too little pressure and it wouldn’t go in far enough. It worked much better on softer plastic motorcycle seats,. If you can find slightly narrower and thinner staples that is a better way to go as they will penetrate the plastic seat pan easier. Definitely a pneumatic stapler works better. Good luck!

    Nice, the thought of pulling off the stretched vinyl is a little daunting. Anyone been able to replace the seat latch at the rear without removing the trim. Looks like the bolts come from inside?? Initially I thought they were just rivets and ground them out. Thinking I’ll use a couple of rivnuts.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 роки тому +1

      The latch is usually riveted on and normally not removed when replacing the seat cover. The vinyl is not stretched too much, so I wouldn’t worry about that. It's getting it centred so that it sits correctly that is one of the most important part. Going slowly and having a second person help is the key! Good luck.

    What kind of staples did you use? 18 gauge 1/4" stainless?

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  11 місяців тому +1

      I find that 1/4" Arrow stainless work best. I also find that for my staple gun I need to use 95 PSI. Any less and the staples won't go in far enough; any more and the staples tear through the vinyl. Good luck.

      Good question. That was my primary concern, but it doesn't make any noticeable sound. I recommend using the thickest bag possible. Good luck.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  3 роки тому +2

      Very good question. The manufacturer suggests using the bag. In fact they suggest using a thick bag. I assume it gives it ultra waterproofing that isn’t there with the original cover. For sure, my original seat cover would let water in so the foam cushion would get wet. This seems to stay very dry.

    My 2012 GTI 155 LTD had velcro pieces where the anchor tabs are inserted as seen in this video: ua-cam.com/video/DiAJsx_ZBfM/v-deo.htmlsi=Ir8HqLz7B2cKI9sV&t=252
    I imagine that was to provide a bit more grip in addition to the anchor tabs.

    What staple gun and staple T50/1/4" round or flat ? I seeing rust on staple after people replace OEM seat.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  2 роки тому +2

      We used a cheap Arrow T50 staple gun with 1/4 inch staples The only criteria for doing this properly is that you use a pneumatic staple gun (we set ours to 90 PSI) and stainless steel staples. It takes some practice to get used to your staple gun, as there is a “sweet spot” where you get just the right penetration without going right through the vinyl.

    • @DJN3m3sis
      @DJN3m3sis 2 роки тому

      @@3ftDeepChannel any better option will you recommend? I notice the OEM staple is wider.

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  2 роки тому +1

      Not really. We’ve done a number of seats with that staple gun (including two motorcycle seats), and it works okay. Interesting though that sometimes the OEM staples are wider, and sometimes they’re narrower. One thing that’s consistent though is that they’re usually thinner and a bit longer. We think those are the professional grade staples for professional staplers. The Arrow one gets the job done.

      Hello Damien, We use this one and it's OK amzn.to/34Mt5KX, but you could also consider spending a bit more for a better quality unit like this one amzn.to/3gZqEqE. The first one uses T50 staples, which are very common but I'm not sure what the second one uses.
