Am part of my old school route from 1976 until 1981. Thanks a lot for your Videos. Next year it is 40 years ago since i leaved Melbourne an almost so long i lived in the little city of Coburg in Germany
@@tressteleg1 The photo on my account is not me i shows Sheldon Cooper from the TV Show The Big Bang Theory. I left Melbourne at the age of 18 just a short time after i finished school.
Because each tram costs millions of dollars. Nevertheless they are preparing design features for the new G class trams, I think to number 100. Don’t expect them next week though!
The traffic lights delayed us so long that the 64 was essentially out of sight by the time we got into Hawthorn Road and we never caught up with it again.
Yep. the old 69 route, especially going from Malvern Rd down toward Wattletree Road. Parking getting harder to get. Always busy. Another project route needs to replace the tram line.
And where do you suggest that the replacement tramline be built? Somewhere away from the shops where people want to carry out their business? Don’t forget that when those tramlines were built, other road traffic was a sparse collection of horse-drawn vehicles and motor vehicles.
So you should have said ‘renew the tram rails’. That of course is another matter, and bit by bit the worst bits of track in Melbourne have been replaced with much nicer new rail. It just is a matter of time as to when this line gets done compared with others.
I am a bit mystified tressleleg, are you a train driver masquerading as a tram driver or the other way around,or just very clever at doing both ?. But great videos mate. This one took me literally down the roads of my child hood and youth
I was a driver at South Melbourne 1988-94 where I drove every type of tram in passenger service. See: Becoming a Tram Driver Melbourne 1988, Berlin 1992. Part 1 Melbourne ua-cam.com/video/C9UOzfV2qks/v-deo.html I also had quite a few sly drives of electric trains in Sydney in earlier times, several drives in Melbourne and London as well. See “Sly Drives of Electric Trains Melbourne, Sydney, London.
A little but generally it takes long enough to cut out every pause, say how long, reduce the size of the font, add the yellow without adding another step which takes several steps to access and leave, besides each fade adding more time to the video. But I have used it occasionally. Anyway no matter how long or short my videos are, the average view time is only about six minutes so few people would notice the difference.
So good to see you back again, doing the Tram Routes, which I love...It's how I got started on your videos. Missing Melbourne so much having left in 2009, and somewhat pleased I am not down there right now with the crazy Chinese Flu and political power grabbing going on so bad...
I do one Melbourne trams video about once a month so I do not run out of lines to cover too soon. As for Covid, Melbourne is probably the safest place in Australia at the moment as they have taken no overseas arrivals, the only source of that scourge these days, since mid February and will not restart until 8 April. That is why I went down there first part of March.

Gee, it was beaut seeing the classic Holden FC station wagon turn into a driveway (on the approach) at 13:35, a top YT clip as always tressteleg1
Oh!? I only notice cars that get in the way of the trams 😄
I saw it. From around 1957 - 1959 if I'm not mistaken.

😊 you must have left Melbourne when quite young, either that or your photo is quite old!
I had my 5 days there earlier this month. No problems.

Ha ha. I never watched that poor excuse for comedy, so would not know the face from a bar of soap 😊
Why have we still got theses old trams

18:40 what do you mean tram 64 we will never see it again? Is that the tram route or tram number
The traffic lights delayed us so long that the 64 was essentially out of sight by the time we got into Hawthorn Road and we never caught up with it again.
@@tressteleg1 ok
Nice when i grow up i will be a tram or train driver :)
I hope by then that both the trains and trams are run by companies who treat their workers somewhat better than they do today. 😊
Another great tram video! Thankfully the Siemens Combino was not missed, as it shows up at very last minute. Tks again!
😊 Combino, not the world’s greatest tram.
@@tressteleg1 back when I lived in Melb, they were my favourite! I know they had issues in the past, but I used to enjoy riding them.
I doubt if they are any better today. Certainly some make strange noises from the gearboxes which apparently require a fair amount of maintenance.
Why don’t they fix the rail joints?
There are hundreds to do on the system, but in fairness, a lot of noisy track has been replaced in recent years, and I expect that will continue.

@@tressteleg1 No. I meant to say to rip it up and replace it with the smoother rail so people won't hear the joint of them.

As I said you are a clever man .keep on turning out great videos
A fair amount of luck thrown in as well. No way could I get a sly drive of anything these days. Too much supervision.
Damn traffic really slows things down.
That traffic is nothing compared with what I saw when in Melbourne on a Saturday two weeks ago! And I’m talking about outer suburbs, not the city!
As a suggestion, have you considered using eg a dissolve/cross fade where you've edited the video?

Great video. Its too bad when they build these systems like this they cannot separate them from the traffic.
When these tracks were laid, the other traffic was a few horses and carts with an occasional motor car. So who is the real invader? 😊
