you definitely gotta check out the album Mount Eerie by the same artist, it’s much more spiritual and mythological but it’s such a perfect experience that can’t really be put to words. after it ended the first time i heard it my jaw was actually hung open in shock from how beautiful it was. it’s more experimental than the glow pt. 2 but it continues the same story and a lot of the same sonic elements so if you enjoy one you’ll probably like the other
For more music like this album- here are a few recs! p.s. i listed this from most approachable to least In The Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel is super legendary within the altrock/folk scene and you're sure to find it on 'best albums of all time' lists. I'd say it's less experimental than this but has the same range, instrumentals and soft intimate songs along with big noisy rock songs - a must listen. Spiderland - Slint, one of my personal favourites, leans more into the rock side and is equally (if not more) praised than ITAOTS, Spiderland attributed with creating post rock as a genre. So gorgeous yet goes so hard at the same time! Ants from up there by Black Country, New Road. A beautiful album blending Chamber Pop and Art and Post rock with an expansive musical palette that doesn't stop revealing itself with more listens. Has a unique balance between catchy melodies and grand experimentation, nothing less than epic. Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans. Admittedly this is a nosedive from the rest of the stuff, but it is one of my favourite albums of all time and I think you'd appreciate it. Over the course of 2 hours and 20 minutes you will hear: the most beautiful songs you'll ever hear, the most terrifying songs you will ever hear, an experimental dance track, the most epic songs you'll ever hear and over worldly samples that the lead M. Gira collected over years of jamming and experimenting through the lifetime of the band. No album will ever be like SFTB, it's specifically a product of Swans's lifetime till the release of the album and that can't be replicated again. I force as many people as I can to listen to it. Helpless Child, and The Sound are the most acclaimed and for a good reason, they are unforgettable and cinematic in a way I thought music couldn't be; other standouts are All Lined Up, Live Through Me, Yum-Yab Killers and I Love you This much. (please listen to it omg)
@@zstylmn.5947 Good question! I've got a few on a similar path: Talk Talk - Laughing Stock Talk Talk boast beautiful and serene Soundscapes you can lose yourself into, Laughing Stock no exception. I could float down a stream to this album. Ashenspire - Hostile Architecture Harsh prog metal with a punk edge, sometimes I describe them as the 'Anti-BCNR' because of their similar instrumental palette but much harsher execution. They really know how to blow your head off with distortion with an epic build, super unhinged at points - amazing. (quick interim just in case you haven't listened to Godspeed You! Black Emperor, listen to every album.) Evpatoria Report - Gloevka Just straight post rock, gorgeous and epic, they feel like a slightly more entry-level GY!BE but still ABSOLUTELY worth your time. Natural Snow Buildings - The Winter Ray Similar to the more drone-y sections of SFTB, huge and desolate with the odd folk track sprinkled in. Feels like a blizzard in a rural french village. A Silver Mt. Zion - He Has Left Us Alone But Shafts Of Light Sometimes Grace the Corner of Our Rooms From the makers of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, vocals! You may have listened to this already? but still thought this might've evaded your radar. I'm running out of ways to describe albums rn BUT rest assured this is WORTH YOUR TIME.
