The WNBA is still basketball though, while the NBA is not and has been turned into a packaged product. Simply put - the NBA sucks: it's not competitive, they play zero D and the new rules are just there to foster more fastbreak, less grit, more scoring, less defense, more dribbling, less playbook, more traveling violation non-calls etc. etc. But the NBA's product appearance vs. the WNBA's sports appearance is the consumer's fault: as a society we are becoming slouches that want technology doing everything for us and we want everything fast and easy and on-the-go. So that idiot fake sports show host there toward the end of this video was right about one thing - it IS all about the consumer today. The only thing is this is supposed to sports not some consumer product.
The NBA could successfully over time transition the WNBA to be similarly a shallow but profitable consumer product like the NBA is. That a good thing or bad thing?
Women professional sports (with the exception of Tennis) are just not athletic enough to attract a critical mass audience - so they end up as subsidized PR projects for the main professional league. Same in basketball, soccer, cricket, rugby etc.
I would honestly watch a street ball game at a random park in NYC before I'd watch WNBA.

Fun fact: The single highest attended WNBA game in history was the Mystics home game which occurred the same day as game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals between the Washington Capitals and the Las Vegas Golden Knights, because there was a viewing party in the arena following the basketball game. And hockey fans were willing to simply be there for 6 hours, just to guarantee their seats to watch the game on the jumbotron (the game was in Vegas). And I love hockey, but it is by a wide margin, the least popular of the big 4 American sports (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL). This should speak volumes to how little anyone cares about seeing an WNBA game.

The NBA is in a no win situation when it comes to whether they want to keep funding the WNBA. The NBA pays for the G-League, the WNBA and all of the salaries of all of the employees working for the NBA.
G-League salaries are not determined based on their ticket sales. Neither are WNBA salaries.
The only way the WNBA is would go out of business is if the NBA completely disassociated itself from them.

Take men’s spot on NBA teams and prove how good you are, prove how your play can win NBA games and that your play deserves equal pay. I went to a WNBA game. Staples center, court side tickets. I was only their because I was on the clock working. 5,000 kids were there from different summer camps. No actual paying spectators. At least from what I could tell.

Lower the rim to somewhere between 9 and 8.5 feet. People want to see dunks and crazy long 3-pointers, women can't do that on a 10 foot rim. They already make the ball smaller, they should also make the rim lower.

Our High School intramural team beat the girl’s varsity by at least 40 in a friendly scrimmage. We were like the fourth best team in our league. You could throw an average boys varsity team from most High Schools in the US against a WNBA team and I think they’d win comfortably.
