- In this video I make a eurorack modular synth case with a built in LED screen on the back. I also give some helpful information about wiring up a switching power supply to LEDs and Eurorack bus boards.
It took a long time to make, but was a lot of fun spending time with my dad and learning more about DIY electronics.
All background music was made on this modular synth. Primary modules used are -
Mutable Instruments Plaits
Mutable Instruments Edges
Mutable Instruments Grids
Bastl Cinnamon Filter
2hp Kick and Hat
Zvex Lofi Junky
Hexinverter Mutant Hot Glue
Makenoise Rosie
Makenoise Richter Wogglebug
Rack specs - 9U 168hp
Screen - 64x192 = 12288 pixels
LED controller - LongGreat TF-QS2N

This is actually a really great ‘Eurorack intro for the guy who throws his instruction manuals away’ video, modest budget, and you have an extremely unique gimmick with that LED array! Gosh Darn Golly, Id say that’s the sweetest DIY case I would’ve ever dreamed of. I know that the acrylic material isn’t cheap, but the efforts and work you put in yourself probably made the project a great quality time spent with your father. Priceless!
Your dad is a treasure.
This is so epic! And how great to have a dad who is so supportive and cool.
The you/dad thing is a beauty in and of itself....the case is gravy. Grin as wide as case👌
That is easily the coolest modular case I have ever seen.
Oh my God.... This LED Display on the back looks so sick.... That's a really great looking idea!!!!!
Amazing job .. love the Synthwave landscape right at the end (on the screen).
First off, my jaw is on the floor over that build. Great work, to the last detail. .
If you’re not already aware, video eurorack is in its prirme right now. LZX Industries, , brownshoesonly, sleepy circuits, BPMC come to mind. I’m sure if you reach out to LZX, they could offer knowledge into your issue. It will involve, I’m sure, a different controller and/or a media server to interface. Once you do set it up, the sky is the limit in terms of how your music can interact with that video screen. Cheers and have fun 🏄♂️🏄♂️
That's cool to work with your dad. This is a great projetc, well done.
My thoughts exactly. I never had a dad like that so I hope he knows how lucky he is :-)
P.S. I wonder if I could borrow his dad from time to time????
What a brilliant idea! Your case looks fantastic! Thanks for the fun video!
Wow! Wonderful build, I'd love to see a performance with this! Nice video editing too :)
Waw. Amazing... The work payed off.
Great work sir!! Looks awesome!
Worth staying to the end for the father son banter..... let me know when you unravel the mystery of Frosty the snowman lyrics....
Nice idea for magnetic holders I think I will do it as well
This is so sick!
Hey, awesome build, please, please can we see the populated version in use?
What you'll also notice is the 65B PSU has 5v, V2 and V3. This indicates the PSUs primary is 5v and the +-12v are secondary, you would have been better off buying 2 x 12v PSUs and running them in series to get you +-12v. The 65B can create a lot of noise and heat if you don't use the 5v or add a dummy load to that rail.
This case is freaking amazing.
I can’t even build a basic 3u... lol
cool man good job i love everything except the glittery edges of the case 😆too much razzle dazzle for me
👏
This is a very underrated video
Este Case, funciona a Leña o a Vapor ? funciona con Gasolina o con Pilas ? pues en ninguna parte del Video, aparece si le pusieron coneccion a la corriente. No vi ningun enchufe.
Is a performance video coming any time soon? 🙄😊
i do feel 2 lcd screens could have given the same effect and you could have real time video via usb or hdmi /
/ i think that LZX Industries Memory Palace
supports hdmi or dvi
Any link to the bus board? I'm only missing that part for that case and I can't seem to find some prebuilt ones.
Don’t have a link handy but they’re from modularsynthlab - they offer different combos of power bricks and bus boards to fit many different size skiffs/cases. Just a quick google of “modularsynthlab” should give you their homepage/Etsy shop
NC means "NO CONNECT".
4 amps is kinda hungry panel!
background music is funny.
nuts
120hp is still fine. anything beyond is uncomfortable.
