1. You are a high maintainance guest. Your demands irritate people. 2. Never leave valuable possessions . Take them with you. You made a bad decision 3. Clean up after yourself.
If you want to be a high maintenance guest you better be paying 5 star prices. You can't expect a high level of service at a serviced apartment unless it's a luxury place. People should always clean up after themselves even if cleaning service is offered. It's not an excuse to leave a mess. Show some respect to the workers by cleaning as much as possible. Also a place has the right to change their policies. Just because they didn't ask for a deposit before doesn't mean that they can't change and ask for it now. I have stayed in many places that changed from no deposit to asking for a deposit and places that raised the deposit amount. That is simply to ensure that people don't damage the unit and is justified.
Seems like you never learned from your previous “bad situations”. Have an emergency fund, dude. You can’t live day to day anymore. At least have a few weeks worth of buffer money. It’s hard to sympathize when you just took a couple of trips.
Your worldview revolves all around you. Don't do this. Don't do that. Change rooms several times. You cook in your room. Splatter cooking oil all over. Then expect the cleaner to do so!? The lady manager informed her male counterpart and got him to deal with you. He's well informed of the crap she and her staff had to put up with you. They're simply returning you the favor of the crap you gave them earlier on. Malaysia is a good country. You are the problem. Not the staff attending to you.
Our generosity allowed you to purchase those equipments from the last "situation". We thought you will be careful and frugal. And start saving process which you did not. Scary indeed
Request to speak with the manager, also demand to view the security footage together. File a police report. Seek help from the immigration person who you have contact with. Get help from the US Embassy if needed. Hope you get your stuff back.
Yes, he needs a police report in order for the hotel or himself to make an insurance claim. The US Embassy won't care, especially if there is no police report.
You've just put yourself in a bind with poor finance management, poor management of your valuables and poor decision making when dealing with a suspicious individual at the apartment management office. Take this as a valuable lesson so that you don't have to go through these kinds of situation again!

Only a small fraction of people make enough money to do it full time. Stats show that there are an estimated 64 million content creators in the world on YT. Maybe a tiny fraction of 1% are successful enough to do it full time. The odds are horrible. If the night shift guy was Malaysian how was he speaking the language and with the accent, stop trying to pretend people with bad attitude don't exist everywhere
Sorry for the edit but i find this all weird now that i rewatched it. Why are you not going to cops in the first place? Also RM10k is alot for us Malaysians. But you did not have 45usd on you? Having understand this better the video is coming off quite bad now. Any sane person would have lost their minds if a bag of that value goes missing and would never stay in that condo ever again. Putting up a front just to keep a cool head is something i don't buy at all now. The real steps here is to get the cops alerted and have them investigated then make a video about it. By majority of the rational comments here, they all say you are at the wrong and well I agree with them. If the bag was super secure like locks and zips and hard to get in. But then you mentioned it had an open top you can see what is in it. What really happened here Ben ? You left 2 bags, 1 of which was easy to identify what was in it. @Ab_A60 I want to believe it was horrifying luck but the situation seemed avoidable. It's getting harder and harder to know if this was fake or really happened.

Ben, so sorry to hear that. So unfortunate. Doesn't matter where you are, shit happens. Firstly, contact the hotel / airbnb management, give them a time frame, by then if no valid action taken, positive result, inform them officially in black & white (text message or email) about the consequences you are going to take. Secondly, report police report no matter what because insurance company does need it for any claim application. Itemise them out one by one with how much in value. If the police can't locate it (even with CCTV footage), your last chance is to claim from the insurance company and i hope you did buy one. Yes. you probably right. Don't put so much hope on it. They are likely gone. I hope you can get over this bad situation soon. Take care bro. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
I used to work in a budget hotel. Guests used to leave their luggages, all chained up to secure. One guest claimed his laptop wes missing. He was not compensated cos it couldnt be proven. We suspected our colleague, the reception cos he never came back to work after that.
True. But perhaps due to visa situation he has to leave. But I won't go to Bali or Bangkok/Phuket these places suck money from our wallets like vacuum cleaner.

If I were him, I'd stay in Malaysia for 80-90 days before leaving. He gets bored quickly and can't seem to stay put in one place for too long.
@ROYAL_REBEL ahh true. If a person does not have 50 usd, how to travel so many places. Also he can rent a bit further to avoid high rentals to save money.

Hey Ben, for content for your next video, I have a question that I have not seen answered in any of your videos yet, maybe you could explore this topic. DATING. I know you have said that the nightlife in Malaysia isn't very active and that the nightlife in Bangkok is better 'to party'. But, is dating even possible in KL? Not playing the field, not partying, but finding a single girl to date without some promise of marriage? You know, like having an actual girlfriend you see once a week? I haven't seen a single video that provides any useful information about this anywhere on you tube yet. It seems like it would be a concern for any person, male or female, whether or not they will ever have a date again (with a local or non-local, either one) while they are living there or not. I have only heard vague references such as 'its hard' or 'dating sucks'. (For non-locals that is). If its too hard, that would be a huge reason to not move to Malaysia.
Sorry ben. I think its your fault. You shouldnt left valuable items like that. I dont think police will step in too much on petty crimes like this. You gonna have to settle this yourself with them.
Money is also power in Malaysia, everything you do you need money. But if you lost something and the place didn't give coorporation , which is rare, you report it to police station.if there is camera they can look at it, maybe they can do something
1st : Approach the Manager 2nd : Try email the property management 3rd : Police report (make sure it is made within 48hours from the time you noticed it had gone missing)
Never leave your bag with high valuables with the -thieves- *staffs* That's how it works in Malaysia or anywhere else in the world. You are tempting the staffs to be potential thieves. Too trusting or content for ? Sad. Don't bother with making a police report. It's a waste of time. Just consider it an expensive experience and a learning curve.
"UPDATE: I got my bag back! I was told it was mistakenly taken by one another guest. Lesson learned never to leave valuable items in a situation like this." Ben we are glad if this is the case but you can see what kind of comments came when you uploaded this video right? Please be a little more aware... Now to anyone else you does see the update rewatch and build your own opinion about it. I am still very confused about it but if you say the bag is back then all is good. I hope...
Dear Ben, first of all I sympathise with your predicament. I work in a 4 to 5 star hotel. We Must keep deposits. Renting in Malaysia is the same in case of damages please understand this. All your issues can be avoided if you have savings. You reminded me of British army retiree "olderbackpacker" who just left Malaysia for Thailand. He has a monthly pension of 800 pound sterling. When he left his wallet in a bus from JB to Kota tinggi, he was in panic mode. We Malaysians are helpful and generous but we should not be blamed for any inconvenience in your life when financial intelligence is not practiced. There must be savings. Going to Bali is not a good idea too as it is expensive there being a tourist island. From your past experience, I thought you already learned some lessons.
For such expensive things is either you carry them with you or rent a locker with you holding the keys. Don’t ever leave the bag anywhere in a cheap condo or hotel office. If it’s high end 4-5 star hotel that records your bags formally and gives you a number then yes you can trust those. From what you said it’s a cheap place and for sure there is risk of them stealing your items. This would apply anywhere in the world. Hope you learn from this. And yes make a police report if you fail to get back the bag within 24 hours. (It is likely you won’t see them anymore as the thief could have sold them away)
Ben, The first thing I would say is to get yourself an American Express card or a Discovery card. The idea is to not run the balance up to a high amount but to give you a buffer zone when finances are tight. The cards bill you once per month so this gives you a 30-day buffer. You pay them off as soon as possible and just do not run up the balance. In other words, pay them off ASAP to keep yourself out of debt. Regarding the bag issue get with the person that allowed you to put the bag in the storage area for he/she is your witness and have a word with that person to see what they recommend. If there is no positive response go to the police.
Depending on his credit score he might get denied. Based on his current and prior debts owed he might be ineligible for AMEX or Most Discovery cards that require at least a 700+ score.
Make a police report but don't make a report you want to make claim damages then it becomes a civil case Say cheating intend with criminality involved then the police will take up the case themselves If you say u want to claim then it becomes a civil case need to employ a lawyer not worthwhile
Ben, if your bag was taken, it was probably returned because you were starting to create a ruckus and possibly "that guy" got scared. I just can't believe that you didn't have $49.00 for the deposit and then took a long trip to a different county. I believe that you didn't want to give the guy the deposit because you thought you were going to be ripped off. We wish you the best, but don't lie to us. We're not dummies and this shows total disrespect.
I believe that didn't happen at all. With Airbnb, cleaning fees are already added to the total rent, whether you like it or not. So, the story about the deposit is iffy. It doesn't make sense that someone would leave a pair of newly bought AirPods behind to go on a holiday. He spent all this money in Bali (17 days) and Bangkok (10 days for his birthday). Although he's allowed to stay in Malaysia for 90 days, he flies to an exotic destination every two weeks. He's impulsive, reckless & stupid.
Hi. Ben . MALAYSIA is one of the kindest people who are very bighearted you can encounter in the whole of South East Asia. I hope you get your valuables back. Malaysia is a wonderful country with very kind and helpful Malay, Indian and Chinese people .
If the oil damages the walls, or the furniture, then yes, that deposit is gone. Walls don't clean itself and oil on painted walls can't be cleaned. It will always have that yellow tint unless it's painted over. And when you paint over a wall, you have to paint the whole wall, because painting that one spot will show obvious difference in colour. That could easily run over RM200.
Get the proof that there is no term about deposit during the booking. Get the name of the person who allowed storage at the office. Go and make police report.
Contact the immigration dept and tell them what happened. Next time put an air tag in your bag. Contact police ASAP and check CCTV (unless it's been wiped ).
Just Think about it .. if 100 customer do like your case to them what will happen .. not their fault ... This situation goes to all hotel in Malaysia .. they have a right to ask for the deposit .. don't be selfish..
First of all no companies wld take responsibility for any lost/stolen items .. why would you in the first place leave any valuable items in storage to begin with. Get a police report.
Well Ben, From the story I suspect the guy who does not like you. People who have resentment often feel entitled to take advantage. Penalties for theft in Malaysia are pretty severe, not something a reasonable person would risk, and I would be inclined to contact the owner and say you want the security footage. I'd have a friendly chat with any prime suspect, and let them know you would appreciate having it back and no questions would be asked, but once you go to the police it's out of your hands. I'd go to the police ASAP and have a chat with them and ask what they suggest. Perhaps an officer could meet you there and you could give them a chance "TO FIND THE STUFF" before a formal investigation. If they are not friendly or receptive, I'd mention to staff and the owner that you would be very happy to resolve the issue rather than cause escalate matters.
Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Don’t listen to the victim shamers. Def file a police report, be very polite to the cops and they’ll be helpful. If you’re nice enough they might visit the thief and convince him to return the stolen goods. I’m guessing that because you’re a regular, you were marked. So it’s likely others have filed reports against this thief of a concierge. No matter what anyone says, he had a duty of care to look after your belongings. Also report him to his manager, if you can get his details. Lastly, you should name and shame the place, so at least others can benefit from this horrible experience.
File a Police Report, ask the Condo Management its Insurance policy and also your own insurance policy if any. Pdrm will probably seek Condo's cctv. This is a crime and PDRM is obliged to investigate.
Hi Ben, I heard about your situation. While it’s true that many people can be kind and helpful, it’s essential to keep your valuables close at all times. Every unfortunate event becomes a lesson learned. I hope you can resolve the mystery of your missing bag soon. Please urge the authorities to investigate, as this incident reflects poorly on the condo and could deter future tourists visiting Kuala Lumpur on a budget like you have.
it sucks that your bag was stolen, definitely take a police report. But with that said you made a habit out of paying late. Why would it be your expectation for them to continue bending the rules for you. To do it once or twice is a different story but for you to just expect that they will keep accepting late payments is silly. You're from NYC and you know hardly anybody would be willing to do that in NYC so don't take advantage here.
I would have contacted the police immediately, listing my items and pointing out that the location has security cameras. A rental storage space for your possessions is necessary when you do the checking out and checking in routine.
Unfortunately you got scammed by the accommodation staff they clearly hid and took your bag and wanted to know what are the items inside I suggest file a police report
Ask for a staff meeting with him and the owner. Tell them you're going to file a police report if the issue isn't solved. Maybe look for new accommodation. Unfortunately, you have to double question everyone which is sad.

Leaving valuables while your away was not smart. Theres poverty in Malaysia too, you know....

Sorry to hear what has happened to you...
The guy is suck a loser he can not lose $20
For such expensive things is either you carry them with you or rent a locker with you holding the keys. Don’t ever leave the bag anywhere in a cheap condo or hotel office. If it’s high end 4-5 star hotel that records your bags formally and gives you a number then yes you can trust those. From what you said it’s a cheap place and for sure there is risk of them stealing your items. This would apply anywhere in the world.
Hope you learn from this. And yes make a police report if you fail to get back the bag within 24 hours. (It is likely you won’t see them anymore as the thief could have sold them away)
I guess a better question would be "What should I do to avoid being in the same situation in the future?" Life will be more stress free then,
He's done this before
Ben, The first thing I would say is to get yourself an American Express card or a Discovery card.
@@DamienYuen7718 My answer to that is simply "YOU DON'T ASK YOU DON'T GET!" The worst the credit card companies can say is "NO". 👍

Hi. Ben .

I hope you get your valuables back.
Malaysia is a wonderful country with very kind and helpful Malay, Indian and Chinese people .
What's the name of this serviced apartment so i can avoid it please. I think i recognize the area.
Hope that everything will work out to your advantage no matter what.
This is not right. Deposit Supposedly just for the damages stuff. Not for oil. u have a right to fight back to get your money.
I like your videos, but why are you abroad broke? Brought that on yourself really!
Happy Belated Birthday Ben. It's my birthday today though, what a coincidence that you talked about yours!
I'm sorry to hear of your predicament . Hope things will be resolved soon.
You aren't getting anything for the missing bag...guaranteed somewhere says "not responsible for stored articles"
it sucks that your bag was stolen, definitely take a police report.
Of course you file a police report. That guy took your bag.😅😅
