Great information,you have definitely put your time in,question is the majority of your successes from tree stands verses still hunting,I.m guessing with the homework you put in 100% is from tree stands because of the information you gather from your land

All my bucks were morning hunts an will almost always be
I hunt the bigger bucks in the staging area because that’s where I’ve killed them because that is the place they will be especially in the afternoon prior to dusk. Now morning hunt the staging areas but really wind direction must be taken in account.
Also have to be very careful because does often bed in staging areas...
Saturday morning I was getting pics of a buck at a mock scrape from my cell cam at a stand I intended to spend my morning. This was while I was getting ready at 6:15am. So I had to settle for a stand about 75yrds away, which was on the downwind side of a thicket/bedding area. I got pics of two other target bucks 20 minutes apart hitting my scrape..while I was in my second choice stand in the area. Never seen them..and they never knew I was there,but it was totally awsome to get pics on my phone just past my line of sight a minute or less after it was taken. Had 3 does 4 fawns in front of me for 2 hours chomping on acorns and fawns chasing each other and playing. Awsome time of year!

Been making improvements to property the past few years based on your videos. Each year I learn a bit more about the local deer herd. With a few extra cameras, this year I really narrowed down all bedding areas and travel routes they use all through daylight. I have deer every morning and evening in my plots for well over hour of legal shooting light. I’ve also completely abandoned a few stands based on what I learned about their movement. This spring I’ll be making biggest improvements yet and I can’t wait. I really appreciate the continued videos full of priceless advice.

I’ve gotten the biggest buck of my life so far during a morning hunt after hunting the same area several times during the evening so I’m a big supporter of hunting in the morning
I try to decipher your videos to help in my big woods areas..i dont have Ag fields. My food source is acorns & deer are traveling quite a ways to hit green field which i dont have permission.
So ive been hunting the edges of bedding & my beddding areas are surrounded with scrapes.
All my stands seem to be am/pm stands because im between bedding & far off feeding & i hunt bucks coming back in the am & heading out pm??

Your example of Bedding and Food exactly describes where I hunt. The challenging part is ALWAYS proper access. The property I hunt has corn to the south and beans to the west with a steep ridge to the north and river cutting thru the property. It takes the perfect conditions to not spook the deer. So this year I'll walk the river downstream come out on the back side for the "End around".

Great info. Here along the Ohio river south of Steubenville saw the first buck chasing a doe today. Found the first few scrapes over the weekend. Hoping after the weather front moves through, the rut will be in full swing. Good luck all.

Had the realization I was hunting a staging/transition area on an AM hunt recently instead a true bedding area-only 3/4 of the end around needed. Also came to the conclusion that I needed to mow a small walking lane through a 1/4 mile of switchgrass, cut a wider access path through a 1/10th mile of woods, and possibly place reflective tape on the base of some trees to make the morning approach a lot easier in pitch black.

I learn something every time I watch one.
I hunt blinds because it gives more scent control. I placed a box blind I built by the pond. Leaving in the evening or entering in the morning would spook the deer so I plan on camping out if the evening doesn't produce.

Well I must be learning. I’ve hunted my travel corridor several times this year near a bedding area and all the movement. I backed out for 14 days and the big boys stayed active nocturnal but active. Interesting part is they are starting to show up by 30 minutes earlier every other day so and some new ones have shown up and are bedding down near my waterhole. They have drank the small small water hole I tried dry. We are getting a good rain today so it will refill pretty good.
They started showing up at 1 am now they are arriving by 8:30 pm it’s been a steady change last two weeks.
I’m sneaking in Thursday afternoon briefly for 2-3 hours but then Sunday I will take advantage of a morning sit. Hope to see one of the newcomers they are chasing on my land alreasy

The best deer hunts I have had are when the sun comes up and I see the BIG buck in his bed. Had thei happen three times. Then it is really hard to wait him out, wait until he decides to move. REALLY hard for me not to move too much on the public land I hunt with a CLIMBER stand.
I usually have morning and evening stands. Only getting one week a year to hunt I thnki it makes a difference.

I hunt public land big woods in northcentral PA. My stand is set between a doe bedding area/food source and the buck bedding area. Only problem is they are about 500 yards apart and thick cuts in between. And it’s steep country. I found a really good funnel with a scrape line, about 8-10 scrapes along an old logging road. My cameras are showing bucks between midnight and 3:30am working the scrapes on their way to bed. Should I try to move closer to the buck bedding area, closer to the doe area, or stay on those scrapes over the next week. I feel like it’s such big country that it’s hard to nail down an exact travel route because they’re using the area a little differently each time through the funnel.

Quick question. We have 40 acres. 70% bottom land. 2-4 times a yr it will flood pretty bad. 1-2 ft over the whole property. Do you think deer will bed in that when it is dry? Or will they tend to avoid it even when it is dry because it floods relatively frequently? I'm having trouble locating the bedding on our property. I'm fairly certain they bed on the neighbors pine plantation and they feed on ours. I'm not too worried about it because we have a lot of daylight buck activity still. During season too.
I have 1 cell camera and 1 regular trail camera. What property features should I be prioritizing for each camera? For example, cell camera on staging areas and regular on a field corner? Maryland probs

I hunt from the ground mostly, I go about an hour early to let the woods settle back down. Then I don't walk in until shooting hours. Since I've started doing that I've had way better experiences

Jeff, I have the ideal bedding stand. I have the last half of next week off into the weekend. Problem is temperatures are forecasted to be 10 degrees above normal. Should I concentrate on water holes in the morning? I don’t want to disturb the bedding stand until perfect weather which may come the week after. Am I correct in thinking that bucks will be heading back to bedding earlier than would be because of the warmer temps.? I know he’s there, just don’t want to screw it up. Maybe try to catch him at a water hole in the am?
Another thing about those morning hunts... I'd rather track a blood trail in the morning any day over tracking at night.
If weather is cool enough we almost always wait until after dark so we don't spook as many deer...
Do you have videos on tactics for public land? Every thing in south east Michigan seems so random because of how many people push them around. You just don't know where they are bedding. I tend to scout the area on maps and then on foot and when I see it getting pretty thick with good sign I setup on it that evening.
Just like in central Wis. and the land is FLAT. I have hunted 46 yrs now..... I found a spot on USGS mapping when I was in my late 20's. I cross checked it on google maps (or some site that had ictures) for the overhead looks. I looked for spots where there were brush lines separating grown forest. .Then I hunted it (this is for rifle) a couple of years. Found where the other hunters go and where they NEVER go. Have had my stand in the place they never go since. Almost always have my buck opening morning. I move the stand within a fifty yard square depending on the expected wind direction. Started hunting public land bercause private land was too easy..... Still think that. LOVE the public hunting, expecially trying to figure out where other hunters will be. Hope I said something that made sense and helps. . Bow hunting is about the same, but I don't go where I rifle hunt to bow hunt. EVER, except for one time late July, early August to clear the trail to may stand of debris.
@@jameslinzmeier368 I try to do the same except I bow hunt the whole season. Hard to find areas no o e has touched around here. I am sitting I a spot I thought no one has been to and brought my binos I found a tree stand by wasn't here in September lol
@@ML-ks2lj I get it. I lived in Michigan for a while. My area is hunted hard also. Sometimes the other hunters miss an obvious area. Many times the "locals" nearby landowners swamp the public lands hoping to help their privete lands later in the year.
My brother owns 52 acres and I just don’t know where to go there are red oaks all over the property there are tons of young doe and bucks but bigger buck are there at 1 or 2 in the morning
Jeff, I have a question and want to get your opinion. I live in East TN. The rut is in the very early stages of beginning for my area. We are looking at a couple of weeks of pretty warm weather. I love the first 2 weeks of November. My question is since it's going to be quit warm, do I go ahead and hunt ways or attempt to wait for colder tempatures? Hi Jeff. I was able to fill my archery tag with a nice buck over one of the water holes on Oct 15th. I don’t plan to hunt again now until the gun opener in Wisconsin. Do you think I can get away with topping off my water holes now given that I have ~4 weeks for the land to settle?

Jeff when you setup on back side of bedding and go in before light do you ever worry about running into a buck cruising? Or does it go back to playing the odds?

I feel like you can “spook” a deer before light and it doesn’t make him move far away. Unless he smells you bad or something but if he just gets up and trots off he ain’t that scared. They hear lots of stuff moving around at night and move off without getting “spooked”
@@HILLBILLY_HARD I think there's some truth to this. I usually walk into woods 45 minutes before shooting light with green tinted light and often see deer eyes bedded down so I just keep walking calmly and quietly. Some deer do move but it's not negatively affected my hunts from what I can tell.

Couple things I disagree with Jeff on and it’s only a couple one being mature bucks know the game and start laying down sign first I don’t see that in my area middle ga. Smaller bucks laying down most of the sign and running does first.and now second I don’t think five percent of hunters have a fifty percent success rate I watch and read alot of stuff and I’m not going for it!
Yeah everything is regional. I'm in the mountains of NC and the early sign here is definitely made by the little guys. I dont pay too much attention until I start seeing big rubs and car hood size scrapes. That's not until november when it gets cold and stays cold.
5% of lands hold the majority of mature bucks...only a small % of that get to experience 50% morning sits if they follow this advice. Very few build it...an even smaller % of that # get to experience 50% sits.
It also is important to know the difference between mature buck sign and immature. Unfortunately in the south with a nondefined rut, there is no real build up to defined rutting activity like in the northern 2/3rds of the whitetail states...
🤨 All his videos suggest "we" designed "our" own hunting areas...
How about random public areas that we get randomly allowed to hunt by a lotto drawing. He thinks we can go hunt whatever and whenever on public.
