If your dog(s) are part of your security, don't forget to bring their things camping too! ua-cam.com/video/CfUZXeJ92Ig/v-deo.html
I think ive gotten my security down well. Hitch padlock. PadLock on the folding jack. Pad lock on one of the roof latches and locks on the front box housing the battery and propane. You should see how many keys i have!
You can lock your security chains, while hooked to the vehicle. Once again, a bolt cutter will cut the locks but we are just trying to keep the 'honest' crook from having an opportunity. Thanks for the videos!
Regardless of the locks, if someone wants to get in to take stuff, the thief wont object to destroying the doors
One additional security measure is to remove the safety chains when stored. We use the garage for our vehicles so the popup sits outside with a Reese ball lock. Removing the chains prevents someone from using the safety chains to pull the popup to a different location where they can remove the lock less conspicuously.
Good idea
Good point❤❤
Love your channel. My wife and I are looking into purchasing our first pop up camper. Your videos are very well done, and have loads of info that’s been useful. 🙏
Most criminals are lazy and in a hurry to get away. A pop up is too much work and time for them to take down to travel mode. That's a deterrent in itself.
I don't expect any security from the locks AT ALL, but when I'm gone I usually leave my Anatolian Shepherd in my camper, what a surprise if they go to get in and a dog of a small pony meets you, uh oh. I also have a minature schnauzer that is such a barker, great alert dog. I surround the front of the camper with a portable kennel
Thanks for sharing your videos on pop-up campers. I’ve learned a lot from them. I have 2007 palomino yearling as well that I’m currently renovating.
Thank you so much for these videos, I really enjoy them! My husband and I are going to pickup our very FIRST popup camper this Sunday in North Carolina and we've been binge watching your channel!
Yay, congrats!
This video got me thinking... what about a way to lock up propane tanks? Maybe you could use a GPS tracker in case of theft. But yeah, in general. If someone wants to steal it bad enough, they will. Just like with my Harley, I just make it as hard as possible for someone to do so.
You can always remove a wheel (and the spare of course) once you are leveled. Unless someone is carrying around a spare tire and rim, your camper is safe.
Hi. Thanks for cool ideas. I also close and lock my fold up stairs/door. Just another deterrent. Cy in Salt Lake City Utah USA 🇺🇸
P.s. wheel boot. Cable lock through wheel rim and trailer frame. Steel cable and massive lock on my propane tank and batteries bolted to trailer tongue.
Great advice thank you.
A security camera might be an interesting deterrent. I have a heavy duty ball lock - works well.
Most hunters have trail cams that can be set up 50 / 75 feet away. You might still get your stuff stolen but you will at least have some pictures of those responsible.
Great post. In addition to these theft deterrents, we put a GPS tracker in our '87 Coleman Columbia
great idea with the padlocks bad news those pad locks can be picked within 30 seconds then re locked so you would never know if someone was in there or not. i know a combination lock is a hassle but a better way to secure your stuff
A lot of the big fancy rvs are the same way with the keys. There’s a good chance someone in the campground has a key that will fit your door. My husband is a locksmith and we see and copy a lot of rv keys. That’s why I want a real vehicle like a van or something on a van chassis so I have driver and passenger doors so we can easily secure the rv door from the inside but still get in.
Wow, thats crazy. Thanks for the insight. Does he ever see people having their locks changed just because so many people have the same key?
Excellent video. I am a single female picking up my first pop up tomorrow. I never even thought of someone being able to reach in through the Velcro. Love the idea of the door alarm. Ant suggestions for a Nest type security camera for RVs? One that doesn't require WiFi that can text your phone if someone is lurking around outside - perhaps with a motion sensor light to scare people away?
Amazon Blink cameras are pretty good if you can power the base.
The ring system on most front doors work great at making it possible to record anyone approaching and the ability to use your phone to communicate with them. Plus a cheap battery powered motion detector light at front and back corners stop sneaky people.
How about leaving a hungry Doberman inside when you are away from your campsite?
Change those outside storage locks.
My Wife and I changed ours got them Amazon they're designer locks just determine the size and length of the orinagle locks size of the Barrle and measure the length to get the right size to match your originals.
Most pop-ups on the storage locks use a key with CH751 check the key and you see a number most are CH751.
you could use wheel locks. I thought about getting those.
I riveted on a lockable latch outside the door so I can paddlelock it when away from camp. Just prevents small door from opening without breaking.
Thanks for the helpful info. Love you channel. How do you prevent your battery and/or propane tank from being stolen?
We don’t do anything for the propane tank or the battery. However, I have seen people lock their propane tank(s) to the frame via chain and a padlock. Also, there are some aftermarket propane tank and battery box locks, but it may depend on your set-up if they’ll work or not.
How do you feel about leaving did in the camper while at the store or such?
With the door alarm, are you able to leave that attached to the door when you fold it for transport, or does it have to be removed? I use my popup as a house trailer for my business in the summers, so I'm always looking at additional security options.
Any recommendations on new locks for front storage box?
We got more guns for hunting! Come to our popup!
Great ideas especially the door alarm, I'm going to order one.
I don't know about your pop up but access to mine is easy through the bed ends of the tent. any suggestions for this issue?
unrelated question. D you ever use a generator to power you pop up? We have a 1500w one that powered everything. Do know if there a minimum watt generator to run everything?
Most recommend a 3500 if your going to run the AC.
LOL! just buy a few trail cams rto catch the theifs. You would go nuts if you say our popup remodel!. Thinking of starting a channel! We're Poppin! LOL!
When I store my Popup I chain the tires to gather with a log chain and tamper proof padlock.
Can you post a link to where you found the door alarm?
I popped it in the description
It's Poppin' - Pop Up Camping thanks
I just saw a post that someone had their pop up stolen from their driveway. Has anyone placed a tracker in their pop up and what did you use.
I use Wheresafe trackers. They hold 2 month charge before needing recharge and don’t require it to be attached to a battery
Oh my gosh this past weekend someone stuck their hand through the canvas through the velcro and pop the lock on my door (drunk guy) as my son and I were camping, ( sleeping) I was carrying at the time but it's a shame that I'm just seeing this video.
😳
12 guage has done me well
Switch out the cam locks on the storage unit.
That’s why I’m happy my door has a door in front that can’t be opened from the inside
Any recommendations on changing the door lock? The previous owner did not have the key.
That's going to largely depend on your make and model. They all have different locks. You may also be able to just order a new key as many campers are keyed alike. Search for a "CH701" key.
I have a Viking trailer and it had the cheapest 4 tumbler lock known to man on it. What I did is to replace the handle with a keyed screen door handle they use on houses. At least you would now have a trickier to pick 6 tumbler lock.
Been camping for decades in a pop up. Never worried about people breaking in. What sketch places are you guys camping that this is a worry?
We’re living in a different type of world lately and that would be all over US. Just saying...
We go to explore different places and it would freak me out and we have to store away from our house out of view so we have a Hitchlock on both amd we are going to replace the locks on the door etc. and we would be scared to leave it up for long periods of time.
besides just a crazy person stabbing you thru the canvas. this is my biggest worry but no way around it unless we get a full trailer.
Or maybe we're shooting if someone goes into our popup! Enter to die!
Who do you have your popup camper insurance through?
Right now, progressive. But we shop around every year.
Am I the only one seriously concerned about someone coming up under the canvas and grabbing my kid while we're sleeping?? It's so easy to unloop those elastic ties from the hooks, takes 2 seconds. How do I secure that?! 😂
Well I wasn't until now
You right. Maybe a camera in their direction
This is my number one worry!
You need to tell your viewers what has happened to YOU, if anything, with your pop up and what you did about it! I would also suggest you speak to any neighboring campers. Introduce yourself and work together to provide security for each other, in the event either of you are away from your site. This way your fellow campers know who you are and you know who they are!
mine didnt even come with keys hahah
Ha, well like I said, you can probably find a new key online or just replace the lock. Then again, they're pretty useless to begin with lol.
Take the code that is on the lock to a locksmith and he can cut you a new one. Mine was the same, the lock was so rusted I needed WD40 to free it up before the new key would work.
