I totally agree with you. I had a gopro 11 , sold it and bought an action 5 but wasn't happy with the footage so bought a gopro 13. somehow the gopro footage looks better. Had a real problem updating thefirmware on the action 5 whereas with the gopro you can update firmware through the website using a sd card.
Great video Clint. I’m getting on really well with my DJI Action 5 Pro. I used -7 ev on my latest MTB video. The controls and magnetic mount feature are awesome.
You really got me on the sponsor joke. I was about to eject myself from this video right when you said it. Just was waiting for you to say DJI sponsored.🤣
Did you record with the DJI in 10bit, HDR mode or standard video??.. I can't remember if the action 5 has a standard video mode... For all these cameras in still running the action 3 & One RS. Most people get hung up on the newest, hottest bleeding edge features which they never use 90% of or even know how to use. How many users actually do low light video capture regularly?? UA-cam viewers, big screen TV or phone? 4k, 2.7k or 1080p... Another consideration is unless you show a viewer side by side video for comparison most will never see the difference. Most users want to press the record button and go, set & forget. Pro users would be more concerned. My 2¢. Thanx for the review.
I recorded it in 10 bit. You cannot turn the HDR off on this camera. That’s one of the biggest downsides to me. I didn’t have the camera long enough to really start messing with log video but I may give it another shot in the future.
@ClintGibbs oh man. You can't turn off HDR? That's crazy.... They specifically recommend NOT using HDR on anything but the sunniest days and now it's locked on? Wow. Good thing I decided to not get this one.. Thanx. Was just down on South Fla, how you're area is recovering well.
@ yeah, we’re pretty recovered here. I just did my first E bike race at San Felasco today! It was a blast. Video coming out next weekend. Yeah, the only way to not get HDR on the action five is to use a log profile. Enjoy your trip to Florida! Let me know if you wanna come up and ride.
Thank you for this video.. In the scenarios that i shot in... The GoPro had better video... I was on the fence.. will wait toll the gp14/15 comes out so i can ouck up a gp13 used
I just bought the Dji action 5 pro as my first action camera because it pairs perfectly with the mini microphone and I’m getting the Dji pocket 3 in the future also
I have both cameras as well, and I grabbed the DJI for better low light and daytime shooting. To be honest, I've faced quite a few of the same problems with the DJI, and I feel like the GoPro does a better job while cycling. I was wonder if using the ProLOG format on the DJI would make a difference. Have you tried the ProLOG format on the DJI while riding?
That’s a great point in something I thought about right as I was returning the camera. I really have leaned more towards not color grading for faster workflow, but I may give the DJI another try later on and really mess around with color grading. I understand the log footage is excellent. I do think audio from the DJI is better, especially if you have their wireless mic.
@@ClintGibbsthe current state of the action 5 in standard colour profile is that it's bad, this will probably be addressed in a future firmware update but as it stands, d log M is the only way to avoid the over processed HDR look Set the sharpness to -2 as it even too sharp at minimum sharpness Also noise reduction should also be at -1 or even -2
Just wondering - if DJI have bigger rear screen, front touch screen and bigger sensor and slightly compact size - what about real record time on one battery, compared in same settings with GoPro? In my opinion it`s should be noticeably less.
The DJI Action 5 does not produce separate audio tracks for two DJI microphone transmitters. Instead, it combines the audio from both transmitters into a single audio track in the video file. However, you can extract the audio track from the video file and then use audio editing software to separate the two audio channels. This will allow you to edit and mix the audio from each transmitter separately.
The GoPro footage in these comparison videos always looks better to me. As for the features, I'm surprised that you wouldn't prefer the hands free voice command option. It just seems like the safer way to go. Going up a big climb? "...GoPro, stop recording...". Getting close to the top and about to hit a nice downhill section? "GoPro, start recording" SD card over internal storage as well. Run out of space, switch the card without losing any footage. 😊 My only gripe about my GoPro is the poor battery life. I probably have the standard battery and it lasts just over an hour. It would be nice to not have to keep a power bank in the pocket of my shoulder strap, connected to the camera. Thanks for the video.
@@venheri9560 no need to argue about personal color style preferences, you can grade to any style in post as you want. from the video, I can only see an OG camera keeps changing white balance and saturation , making it disaster to fix.
Hi Clint, thank you for the detailed comparisons. I think the DJI looks much better here. I prefer my footages bright and crisp. Haha. You can dial down the sharpness in camera on the DJI btw. The GoPro white balance tends to lean towards a warmer (orange) look while the DJI is more accurate and true to life. I don't use the HDR function on both my cameras because without a proper HDR monitor/TV you can't really appreciate the viewing experience. I live in a tropical climate and my GoPro overheats a lot, like really a lot. My DJI on the other hand works without any issues even in terribly hot weather. It is a reliable workhorse without much complain. Last thing is the mobile app on the DJI is light years ahead of the GoPro. Overall, I think the DJI is much more worthwhile purchase but your mileage may vary. Sorry for the long rant.
Totally agree. This guy is a gopro guy. I dont believe this is not sponsored by gopro 🤣 Action 5 is natural. Gopro was warm like his face was swelling. And the low light room part, I dont trust this guy. I have used my action 5 to very low light areas & it was amazing. This didnt set the proper settings for super night so it would look dark. This vlog is biased 🤣

A agreed with GoPro cons (12) - same processor, same sensor, strange move with GPS. But! Dev team have all knowledge about hardware and make so low errors in new cameras. They have perfect software. It`s seems perfect stable and predictable. So, when I should choose little bigger sensor and some other things, but it`s packed with unknown software level OR less progressive hardware but ideal software and it`s support - I will chose GoPro. Moreover, if we will use LOG or its analog - in my opinion differences will be so shallow, I just don`t care.
What a shocker.. a long time user & fan of GoPro talks bad about the DJI the entire video. Keeps saying how DJI's video is "overly processed" while the GoPro's video colors are saturated as crazy by default, his face was unrecognizable with direct sunlight on it, while the DJI's picture is more "flat" and natural. Won't be surprised if this video is sponsored.
Are you trying to tell us that all those comparison videos right after the Action 5 presentation weren't sponsored by DJI? They even came out on the same day with the same praise and the same phrases. We're looking at a action cameras comparison here. And as an action camera, the Gopro is better. It has a higher bitrate, a flatter log profile, no stupid distortion in the corners at a wide angle, and better stabilization with extremely strong vibration, like on a bicycle. So throw out everything DJI marketers have told you and learn to think for yourself. And when you want to take a picture of yourself against the sun or in backlight, do it with the main camera of your phone or, even better, with a normal full-frame camera. You don't need an action camera to take a relaxed picture of yourself or your surroundings, no matter how hard the DJI marketers try to convince you otherwise.
Gopro has this yellow-greenish tint that I can't get rid of and it looks horrible and very unnatural. Also it has weak dynamic range and a lot of hotspots or clipped areas. For me DJI looks more neutral and organic/cinematic.

Thank you for making a not sponsored video!

Don't you mean "This video sponsored by the B&H return policy"?
It's funny for some reason I think the DJI looks more natural especially the MTB footage.

When you use the DJI mic connection with 2 mics does it create a separate audio file for each mic or combine them to a single file with the video?

Gopro is amazing. For 12 or 13yrs, they havent figured out the overheating & shutting down of their cameras. Just amazing 😅
