I like how thorough she is. A lot of doctors are in and out so fast you're left having to find out all care, aftercare and follow-up info from the assistants.
I was pre-med until senior year in college and just switched to pre-dental. I’ve been shadowing a general dentist and oral surgeon for a few months and I cannot wait to start my career in dentistry with the hopes of becoming an OMFS. Some look at dentistry as mediocre but I find it to be an art
Excellent video. I've just started following your channel and I love seeing the in's and out's of all the various specialties in the healthcare field. Currently a 2nd year dental student. Originally, I wanted to do medicine, took the MCAT and everything, never ended up applying. Graduated with a degree in human physiology, then worked a year in a restaurant, worked a year as a mover, and then worked a year as a veterinary assistant, and it was while cleaning teeth in that job I realized I had a passion for dentistry. Then I became a dental assistant at a specialty clinic, and now I am very interested in specializing in prosthodontics, a specialty I didn't even know existed 5 years ago. I love these videos because they actually represent what physicians and various other healthcare professionals actually see and deal with in their daily lives. Thank you Dr. Webb and I appreciate your dedication to helping others expand their horizons!
Thank you for being caring, I had a TERRIBLE experience with a TERRIBLE oral surgeon who didn't recommend conscious sedation before he took my jaw wiring after my broken mandible healed. Multiple lidocaine injections, he hit a nerve, and I was in tears and asked him to stop injecting because the pain was excruciating. He didn't and yelled at me for not tolerating things well. This was after 6 weeks of pain and having my jaw wired shut, eating semi liquid food etc. I now have horrible anxiety anytime I have to get that injection at the dentist and I start tearing up and shaking, all because this jerk couldn't take some extra time and realize there is a human being on the other end of his needle! Thankfully when I needed both lower wisdom teeth out 8 years later at the age of 41 I found a much nicer and more understanding oral surgeon that didn't treat me like a slab of meat in his chair!
Betty Smith was that first experience in NY? Because there is a horrendous oral surgeon that I had a horrible experience with and your post sounds just like that Dr.
Im sorry you had to go through that. However, removing IMF wires or elastics is not a valid reason to put patients under conscious sedation. Remember that there's always a risk with sedation so it should only be used when needed. I hope everything is fine with your mandible now !
@@shehri4life I think you may be confused about what I mean. I am talking about removing the upper and lower arch bars, I guess I should have been more clear. If you still don't think sedation is needed please put some arch bars on yourself without sedation and then take them off without sedation a few weeks later, see how you feel!
I love her she's awesome. It's nice to see not just a woman in OMFS with her own successful practice but a black woman in OMFS with her own successful practice. Thank you Dr. Webb I really appreciate you sharing this video I really needed to see this if she can do it I can do it. It's no coincidence that God led me to this video agian. 😇🙏🤗

First, thanks for serving our military peoples during your time in service to our country. To have had you as an oral surgeon in England, would have been just terrific. Wishing the best for you and family.
My hubby has to get this done in a couple weeks, he has a wisdom tooth that's deep rooted and hooked right near a main nerve in his jaw, so that's why we were referred to an oral surgeon. Praying it all goes well ♥♥♥♥♥
I aspired to be an oral surgeon and in my senior year of dental school I was required to shadow the oral surgery residents for one week. After a week of very little sleep, I said “hell no!” Very cool to stumble onto your video. I also completed the AF AEGD in DC with oral surgery rotations at Andrews. Loved it!

Amelia V. Wonderful! Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is a very interesting specialty of dentistry. Dental extractions are probably the most simple thing that we do. Maybe one day we’ll do a video on a jaw surgery or facial trauma! That’s my fave! I hope that you enjoyed the video.

Yes. Can you please post more dental careers? I'm also from Shreveport and seeing things like this is really motivating and inspiring. I'm in New Orleans, La and I'm scheduled to have oral surgery on Nov. 10. Back lower left (wisdom). When I went to a local Dentist 🦷 we went through the steps, x-ray, 4 shots and the area wouldn't get numb. The x-ray showed the infection sitting (ON) the lower main nerve that runs along the bottom... they gave it a try, but... 🤷🏾no luck. So, now I'm scheduled for surgery. Watching your video really helped...😏 and Tina Mary plans to be KNOCKED-OUT SLEEP for the whole thing... if that's a given option. Thank you again.
“Don’t look at all these instruments, we’re not gonna use all of this” literally the first thing out of my mouth to most patients 😂 just helps to be prepared!
I study in college of dentistry and I’m in third year now I want to specialize in maxillofacial surgery and I wanna be like you in future inchallah 🤍🤍🧑🏽⚕️.
It's very strange to me how superior education works in the US. In my country, there are no majors/programs or whatever. You go from high school to your college of choice. Medicine (to be a doctor), Odontology (to be a dentist), Mechanical Engineering, Nursing, Math, Chemistry, Psychology and so on. On whatever college, you will learn the basic stuff (basic biology, anatomy, etc), and later the specifics of the profession. There is no point where you have to make another choice of program, untill you graduate and become a bachelor.
There should be a video about all the people that need dental work (or other medical procedures) but can't afford it. For every expensive implant that is put in, there are probably many more long term toothless Americans out there!
I've got an issue and pretty much out of options, so here i am. I have several teeth causing major issue due to genetic problems (weak enamel), along with a dentist I was taken to at a young age, which got shut down for mal-practice, who scraped holes into my molars in order to try and secure payment for fillings "necessary" after that point. The pain has cost me 2 jobs, and now with covid on top of it, maintaining employment is near impossible for me, whilst dealing with this. Im at a complete loss for what to do. Ive tried reaching out to government branches nearest me for help financially to get me back on track, no dice. I have reach out to several local surgeons and dentists alike, no help willing. The only time someone has helped was when my face swole up like a balloon and i went into my most-local oral surgeon and they performed surgery to remove that one tooth. My top-right wisdom and molar next to it are now beginning to show signs of potential obstruction and i cannot get to whatever is causing it... I do the best i can with dental hygeine, which is better than many i'd say considering pain or no pain, i brush daily. The genetic weakness when referring to my enamel is a curse from hell though, because brushing deteriorates my teeth further... Im only 27... its to the point where ive considered suicide, just to lay it out there... any advice is welcome.
So how do you handle people such as myself who are extremely terrified of the dentist. I've gone through seven dentists seven and each one has been an absolutely horrible experience I am now my eighth dentist and so far what I've gone through she's been really good but I'm still terrified
Hai basically ent docs deal with ear nose throat anomalies maxfax are basically in mouth and face like head and neck trauma orthognatgic surgeries Tumor surgeries cyst removal facial plastic surgeries craniofacial surgeries etc ent surgeons also do like Tumor surgeries thyroidectomiee removal of skull base Tumors nasal and ear related surgeries etc after med school they go for ent residency maxfax after dental school they apply for 4to 6 yrs of surgical residency they get dds and MD degree there is overlapping bw two specialities since there are dealing with head and neck region ,hope this is useful 😊
They aren’t quite the same, but there is A LOT of overlap between the two specialties. I’m a dental student at VCU and the OMFS residents and attendings will do some of the same procedures. There are rotations that the residents do in which they even scrub in on ENT/Plastics cases. OMFS, ENT, and Plastics can have tons of overlap, but at their core, they’re different.
Dani Definitely some similarities. My program actually did not have ENT or Plastic Surgery residents, so I did a LOT of facial trauma, facial reconstruction, and facial plastic surgery.
This is actually my dream job and I literally die 😫..when I see them...I wished I got a scholarship or something or even someone to guide me through this path
Being from England and noticing that you said you spent two years in England, I’d be interested to known your thoughts on the American system vs the US system i.e. the NHS, or UK private healthcare (Bupa and similar) vs American individual insurance. Your time seems to revolve a lot around going through treatment plans and insurance policies and trying to “sex up” your practice to “sell it”, whereas in England, you can become a MaxFax surgeon and just get on with doing your job of surgery without all the extra waste of time admin. P.S. I think that MaxFax surgeons are the best surgeons of all surgeons, please discuss if you agree or disagree.

I study in college of dentistry and I’m in third year now I want to specialize in maxillofacial surgery and I wanna be like you in future inchallah 🤍🤍🧑🏽⚕️.
Great work
I want more videos about oms in trauma centers.
Sherif Samy Maybe we can do a part 2 in the hospital, Dr. Webb?
@@DrPorchia That would be ammmmmmmmmmmazing
It's very strange to me how superior education works in the US.
In my country, there are no majors/programs or whatever. You go from high school to your college of choice. Medicine (to be a doctor), Odontology (to be a dentist), Mechanical Engineering, Nursing, Math, Chemistry, Psychology and so on.
On whatever college, you will learn the basic stuff (basic biology, anatomy, etc), and later the specifics of the profession. There is no point where you have to make another choice of program, untill you graduate and become a bachelor.
Cool
Wesley Martins Interesting. Yes, we function very differently here.
Really cool video!
There should be a video about all the people that need dental work (or other medical procedures) but can't afford it. For every expensive implant that is put in, there are probably many more long term toothless Americans out there!
This was amazing.
Such an inspiration!
Thank you!
Sefeniestar Thank you so much!
Thank-you for the awareness, Dr. Webb!! 👊
Thanks Travis!
Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!
Thank you!
Thanks Mary!
She is so frickin cool!
Lol my dad is the same type of surgeon as you and does trauma but I never see what he does and now for the first time I can see😂
Jennah Raja 🤣
Sister's got some snazzy masks. Great video!
Sam Mitra I try my best! 💖
I’m having flashbacks to my wisdom tooth removal😭😂
Ha I bet!
Angela N Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. If I were your surgeon, I would surely make sure that you have a comfortable experience.
Don't OMF surgeons fo both dental and medical school in addition to their residencies?
Depending on your program. Some do 4 years omfs, some do 6 years omfs/md .. after completing dental school and undergrad
Hi Amelia, check my youtube page for the series "Careers In Dentistry"
Im am so inspired, wow
Video makes me want to floss. Hate having any dental surgery
cocoadough Only floss the teeth that you want to keep! 😆🦷
❤️ Love dentistry 🦷. My field.
Thanks Luz!
Luz Herrera It’s the best!!!
so inspiring !
So how do you handle people such as myself who are extremely terrified of the dentist. I've gone through seven dentists seven and each one has been an absolutely horrible experience I am now my eighth dentist and so far what I've gone through she's been really good but I'm still terrified
How many years does it takes to be oral surgeon?
Respect ✊
Thanks Hassan! 👊🏾
Hassan Rassol Thank you!
Never knew that infections can "eat" the anesthesia lol learned that from my podiatrist getting my toenail removed again.
Yup lol it sure can
Zach Bunch Oh yes! The pH makes it much harder to thoroughly “numb” the patient.
Sorry for my ignorance but are ENT surgeons and oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons the same?
Hi Dani...no they are different...check my youtube page for the series "Careers In Dentistry"
I’m going to meet the doc tomorrow to see if I’m gona get it or not 😳😳
Being from England and noticing that you said you spent two years in England, I’d be interested to known your thoughts on the American system vs the US system i.e. the NHS, or UK private healthcare (Bupa and similar) vs American individual insurance. Your time seems to revolve a lot around going through treatment plans and insurance policies and trying to “sex up” your practice to “sell it”, whereas in England, you can become a MaxFax surgeon and just get on with doing your job of surgery without all the extra waste of time admin. P.S. I think that MaxFax surgeons are the best surgeons of all surgeons, please discuss if you agree or disagree.
she was probably serving military members. They don't go through NHS
Can you do day in life of ob gyn
