@@laongcameaspider I am a practicing dentist in the UK considering OMFS training in the US. I know it would be a long road but any tips please? Thank you in advance!
@@juliarodrigues8085 I came to US when I was in high school so the road was long but I was able to integrate into the system. A little tricky if advanced standing but I recommend looking at schools that take a bunch of internationally trained dentists. You would have to do your 2 year difference. It will be hard as international but if you can beef your CV with research and or interesting experiences it might be good. I would do research overseas as well as during dental school. That and get to know OMFS faculty. If you really get to know faculty they will also really care about their recommendations. For the record, I matched into top choice OMFS as international but I actually gave seat and am working right now GD. Might go back to residency but neeeded a break for now
@@laongcameaspider thank you so much for taking the time! Much appreciated. I am already working as a dentist for 8 years but for the past 2-3 years have become really interested in OMFS procedures. I already do implants and bone reconstructions. Do you think this will help? I will try to get to know OMFS faculty as you suggested! 🙏🏻
Thanks for all of the insight! I'm an aspiring dental student/career changer from the military, hoping to go into dental school fall 2020. Hope residency is going and that you're getting enough sleep
Hi I was was wondering if you would be able to do a video on the dental interviews!!!! I have mine in 2 weeks! Out of all the videos I watched on dentistry yours are THE BEST!!!!
Can u please make the vedios on international students that are accepted into 6year omfs residency programme please guide the international students to get accepted into OMFS residency programme in the US
I am only 15 in year 10 (uk) and I haven't done my gcses yet and despite not being in school due to lockdown and corona I am still determined that this is what I am going to be when I am older
Could you make a video on the matching process? I am a current D2 who is interested in pursuing OMFS and is uncertain about the matching process. -If you put one school/program higher than the other does that potentially disqualify you from getting in? -If a school has you listed as their top applicant and you chose another school as your top, would that prevent you from getting into oral surgery if the school you chose as the top didn't reciprocate? -general ins and outs -------> basically is it possible to not "match" with a program if there was not a balance of the two choosing each other. I would gladly go to many programs (preferably one that is a dual-degree program) but the idea of matching makes me think that if you don't get the matching just right then you are left behind. -when should we start shadowing to better our chances of matching? Thanks and love the videos!
Yes, at the university of Alabama, you can enter as an MD; however, you must get your DMD and the residency program is 7 years in total unlike the 6 year residency if you start with DMD/DDS.
Hello, I am preparing to take the homologation exam for my oral surgeon degree in the United Arab Emirates, do you know of any online site where I can support myself?
@Donger lol I honestly wouldn't recommend general dentistry. It's super hard work since general dentistry today isn't practiced the way it was designed originally. Previously you could just do bread and butter dentistry. Now you're expected to be multi specialist. Nowadays you're expected to go from a molar endo case to doing ortho (invisalign) case to doing surgery cases like impacted wisdom teeth, extractions, bone grafts, membranes, to implant cases to emergency dentistry. I don't known which state you're in but that's how it is in Texas. I'd highly recommend to specialize. General dentistry really isn't for a lot of people. And unfortunately most students don't realize until they graduate lol. Anyways good luck either way and feel free to pick my brain about things you want to learn more about.
Great video, thank you for the tips. Do you have to apply to OMFS in dental school? Can you practice for a few years and then decide to do an OMFS residency? Is it harder that way?
I watched your other vidoes comparing medical and dental school. One thing that I missed but you probably mentioned is the MCAT. I know you have to take the DAT , but did you have to take the MCAT in order to apply for the specialties that require medical school like OMFS or oral surgery?
No, MCAT and DAT are used to apply into the initial 4 years of dental or medical school. Dental students that are interested in applying into OMS have to take the CBSE during dental school.
I'll be working as a surgical tech for an OMFS prior to ever even starting dental school. How big of an advantage do you think this will be. And do you think that OMFS externships will honor my experience and allow me to do more during the externships?
No not really. What’s most important is what dental school you go to, your grades, board scores, research, LOR’s , shadowing, personal statement and oral surgery experience.
finally a youtuber who talks about OMFS!!!! thanks for the great advice :)
Do u got accepted?

Don’t you have an advisor to ask these questions to?
In terms of professional compensation/earnings, is there any difference between a 4-year and 6-year trained OMFS?
This is my last year in dental school it’s mid November when should I apply ?
hi, how does student loan work for dental specialties? I would assume that financial burden will only intensify in the pursuit of a specialty...
How can an Indian dental graduate apply for OMFS in abroad
Most only take students from a US or Canadian schools
im aspiring MD
Can MDs enter OMFS?
No

Do you have any advice for undergrad students who are looking to apply to dental school?
Thank you ٠
I'll be attending dental school this year... How did you start research?
There’s summer research fellowships you can apply for. Only a small number of people get them like 20 people. Otherwise volunteer in labs.

what exams should I take extra for medical school ?

Yes you can. It’s the same either way.

Yes it is. It's not big pay, but it's enough to live from for a while
is it ok if the research is unrelated to dentistry?
