Hello potters!. This is a review for the glaze co-13 mars crystal from the amaco company. I wont lie, these glazes have been a pain to test. while they give good results when directions are followed the directions are very limiting for anyone who isn't doing vases without an liner glaze. Luckily I have found you can use a liner glaze with few of them but I wouldn't take my chances. For those of you who aren't going to read the instructions here is the breakdown on most cosmos glazes.
1 You must layer them down (meaning more layers of glaze at the top than the bottom)
2 you cannot use a liner glaze ( only glaze on the outside or the inside, not both)
3 It's photogenicness depends souly on light, you really need it
4 This last one is just to make this clear, these are not crystal glazes in the sense of what most people think crystal glazes are.

Thank goodness for cute dads lol. I haven't seen many videos on this line, prob because they are such a pain. I have dark star. I have had some great results with it, so I picked up supernova too. I haven't even bothered trying it with a liner. Amaco put out a specific kiln schedule for using them with liners, but I use a community kiln so... I may just throw caution to the wind and go for it after seeing those bowls!

I’m very interested in seeing how you pour on your glazes! Do you have a video that shows your technique? Love your channel and so glad I found it! 😊

I've had pretty good success pouring dark star and doing a hold to avoid pitting

the main issue for me with cosmos is I have to follow 4 different non user friendly instructions to get them to work. usually amaco glazes are very straight forward. on top of that I have to have them in direct light to show me clientele (or its just a black glaze) and i cant use them on the inside and out, meaning no functional/ food safe products . on top of that I have to change my kiln scheduled to get rid of most of the pitting.
It's too must for a little rainbow effect.

You said "kiln load". I was busy while listening. I heard... Something else. Since I live in the gutter.

Do you ever rinse your bisque before brush glazing? I've found it helps prevent that brush grab by the thirsty bisque.

not unless its very very dusty. dust acts as a refractory for bisque so alot of older ( i dont mean age i mean ppl who have been doing it a very long time) potters rinse the work before glazing, but this has proven to do nothing

@@EarthNationCeramics Thanks! When brushing a glaze, I prefer to quickly rinse the piece first to make the brushing more even.

I need to see a lot more demos before I shell out the $$$ for this line of glazes. Most, if not all, say not to use a liner with it and not recommended for food contact. Most of my work is functional, so this limits its use for me. ...and yes, I am one of those people. ;-)

I'm one of those people too.
Although I do more visual art most of my work is functional so it's like..... What am I going to do with this 🤷‍♂️
