I have studied buddhism for roughly half my life. At the age of eighty, it has become more difficult to walk on the treadmill and read at the same time. Your recordings have become a beautiful part of my study. Over the years I have turned to Huang Po countless times and considering him to be a kindly and patient grandfather. Your deliberate and carefully enunciated readings have forced me to slow down and really "hear" what my patient grandfather has been trying to say to me over all these years. Thank you.

Hi Jack, thanks for taking the time to connect and I am so pleased to read that you are finding the recordings helpful for your Dhamma practice. Yes, Huang Po is simply priceless - his pointers are so clear, and his words do indeed convey gentleness and kindness. It is interesting how just 'words' on a page (and then spoken) can actually convey so much about the Master and their proclivities, etc. This too along with them being translated make it all the more amazing. May the Master's words continue to bring you great joy, freedom, and Ultimate realisation. With all blessings, Jayasara 🙏

For many years I have considered Huang Po to be my Teacher. Not one among many -though there are many I adore, but actually my Teacher as if he were in my presence as an active force. It constantly amazes me that words in a book, translated, written in the 9th century (which was a pretty good century of Buddhist Teachers,) carry the living presence of the Teacher. How incredible is that! Thanks so so much as always for the wonderful reading. You are so generous. You probably don't think of yourself that way, but everybody else does.

Dear Samaneri. This is a priceless video. You are doing very superb work. My teacher once said this to me, which goes along with Huang Po. "The story of Truth has been told repeatedly throughout the ages, but it bears telling again. Into the void-like space created by the ego’s realization that in actuality it knows nothing suddenly flows the love of God, like a dam that has been opened. It is as though Divinity had been waiting all these millennia for this final moment. In a moment of serene ecstasy, one is home at last. The Real is so overwhelmingly, obviously, and totally present that it seems incredulous that belief in any other kind of ‘reality’ is even possible. It is like some strange kind of forgetting, like the story of the Hindu god who willed himself to be a cow and then forgot that he had done it and had to be rescued by another of the gods. Sometimes the ego misidentifies itself more specifically as the personality. It thinks, “I am such-and-such a person.” And it says, “Well, that’s who I am.” From this illusion arises the fear that one will lose one’s personality if the ego is relinquished. This is feared as the death of ‘who I am’.
By internal observation, one can differentiate that the personality is a system of learned responses and the persona is not the real ‘I’. The real ‘I’ lies behind and beyond it. One is the witness of that personality, and there is no reason one has to identify with it at all."

This Mind should be translated as Spirit. It is quite beyond thinking and thought. Thinking is the act of conditioning Spirit turning it into thought. Buddhahood is to directly intuit Spirit. But this also means leaving the duality of thinker and thought, observer and observed, knower and known. The state of Buddhahood (buddhatā) transcends all mentation. This is also Spirit which transcends the six senses and the five aggregates.

Many times I’ve heard “you cannot use the Buddha to seek the Buddha”
    (Mind seeking mind. )
I believe that I am using the mind to seek the Buddha but don’t know how to stop nor do I know if that’s what I am doing.
I’ve had many peak experiences and can tell during meditation when I “drop” in to a state of concentration.
My teacher says we are all usually pretty much in the state which I’ve described when awareness notices the “dropping in.”
He calls it “dog shit awareness ” and or “ordinary mind.”
I just don’t understand but when I inquire “who doesn’t understand “ of course no one is there.
