So annoying that pilots in the USA do no declare emergencies by stating 'PAN PAN' or 'MAYDAY'. There's always so much confusion when a US pilot tells ATC "We're declaring an emergency" and they just fly however they want. ATC do not need to provide clearance for deviation from the current clearance unless PAN or MAYDAY are expressly used.
