Just bought a Stella 929, with a broken back that was coming unglued for $ 20 at a pawn shop today, gonna covert it to a four string tenor, perhaps I'll start my channel back up with my new hobby, rebuilding discarded instruments.
I have one in bad shape but maybe it can be restored. The front is cracked and it has no strings. The fret board is worn in a cool way. I think my brother learned on it.
Playing blues for almost 8 hours non stop with two others bluesmen this w-end, I should mean b.l.u.e.s.M.e.n...One of my best session ever. Didn't even have enought time to record... :) Nice one 12R !
I don't believe I've ever held a Stella in my hands, and know very little about them. Are they any good? Yours sounds good. I know Oscar Schmidt owned them and Oscar Schmidt guitars are very good ones for the money.
@@12Radius Perhaps a subtle matte lacquer to protect the stain? Mine does but it is only obvious where it has worn off. The fretboard has a dull shine in most videos I've seen that I don't think would exist were they not lacquered. I don't mean a maple strat finish, it looks quite natural but can be seen upon inspection.
Degraded Echo Yeah maybe real thin coat. Cool guitars. Good for blues. This one is a 1965. I got another one that’s a 1968 with the fender headstock. It’s kind of reddish. I’ve done some videos with it. Then I got a 1950s Stella slotted headstock. And then I got a Japanese made $20 guitar I paid. It seems real old I’ve done some videos with it.
Really nice playing. I have a playable H927 but I can't coax such a sweet tone from it. Did you upgrade the nut on this one? I think I saw an earlier video of yours with another old Harmony Stella with what looked like a bone nut and saddle. I like my old Stella but I'm wondering if it's worth spending any money to upgrade it.
@@12Radius Yep, tuning down a half-step certainly helped - cheers. I also removed the pickguard and that seemed to give it an instant volume lift. I've found a floating bridge with a bone saddle that should fit and I'll get the nut changed too. More to satisfy my curiosity than anything else. There's something strangely appealing about these old birch guitars. I've got better sounding, more expensive small-bodied guitars but this old Stella seems to be the one I automatically reach for.
tamorlin I really like them too. They got some kind of mojo to them. All solid wood also give it a cool tone. I think the bone nut/saddle will help the tone for sure. I can tell just doing the saddle only on some guitars. Bone or ebony bridge pins help to on other guitars. You know that I sure. Congrats. Have fun.
Sweet❤
Skippy in the house!
It's like food man !
lol you know I love that old skip james man. More to come ✌️
Came back here `cause I still hav'nt rook that woods walk yet , weather sucks!

Lovin' it! Collected 3 of these over the years for future resale, but glad I heard this, and will definitely keep the best one now.

+Randy Schartiger This one is a budget Stella but fun.The old ones cost a lot and very cool.like prewar martins.
Randy Schartiger These Stellas weren't made by OS, they came later and were actually Harmony guitars that had the Stella name along with other names.
I have a Stella Harmony Guitar model #2149H929. Do I have anything? Or how do I find out? Thank you!
Not sure ...they are just fun for me. Check online prices that the best way to go. thanks

Great playing. Does this Stella have a lacquer finish on the fretboard?
Degraded Echo It doesn’t seem to have a lacquer on the fretboard. Just Stain to darken it.

tamorlin Thanks. This one has factory nut. I got it tuned down a step from standard tuning. 11-52 strings. It makes it sound better I think.
tamorlin P. S I love the tone of bone saddle/ nut. I have it in a lot of my guitars✌️

@@reverse.ferret im actually looking for a saddle for mine..did the one you find work?? can you share which one you found?
What tuning are you using to play?, Standard or Open D?
Drop down a half step from standard tuning.
What electronics you got in there?
It’s just a little Mic from iphone to guitar sound hole.
ライトゲージは使えますか?
I am sorry I can't understand please?
Hi, what strings you use on Stella guitar please ? Thanks.
helkin 10-47 D Addairo on this. 11-52 work good to. or 12-.53 work on some good.✌️
Thank you.
helkin Yeah anytime. What do you use now ?
I buyed a Stella H929 on ebay and the strings are old. I must change it, and I do not know what strings are adapted to this guitar.
Try out 10-47. or 11-52 should be nice. 12-53 feel tight at standard tuning. but open tuning might be nice with 12-53.
