- The opera premiered at the Opéra-Comique of Paris on 3 March 1875, but its opening run was denounced by the majority of critics.It was almost withdrawn after its fourth or fifth performance, and although this was avoided, ultimately having 48 performances in its first run, it did little to bolster sagging receipts at the Opéra-Comique. Near the end of this run, the theatre was giving tickets away in order to stimulate attendance. Bizet died of a heart attack, aged 37, on 3 June 1875, never knowing how popular Carmen would become. In October 1875 it was produced in Vienna, to critical and popular success, which began its path to worldwide popularity. It was not staged again at the Opéra Comique until 1883.

People really need to stop offering their only commentary as "so and so is better in my opinion." You are free to that opinion, but singers of this caliber deserve a lot more respect than simply saying someone else is better. Ildar is wonderful on this, Ramey is wonderful on this, Hvorostovsky is wonderful on this -- saying which one is better than the other is not necessary. Find something you like about the performance, or offer a critical analysis, not just "they aren't as good as Ramey" or whatever.
Ghiaurov is the best in this listen and if you don’t agree that’s your opinion but you will see in the comments all agree
I agree with you - they are all very good songers and all have their own style. They are all uniqie.

Tutti cantanti citati da Lei da anni cantano aiutati dai microfoni 🎙, tutti .
Degli anni 1956-1976 microfoni 🎤 sul palco non esistevano ancora .
In questi anni esisteva ancora la vera arte lirica.
Dal 1978 in poi pian piano i teatri in mondo intero pian piano hanno incominciato di ‘aiutate’ con microfoni dei cantanti come Gedda,
Pavarotti, Ramey, Hvorostovskiy,Abdarzakov etc. etc….
Viva il pop moderno!

Does anyone know what this video was from? I would guess something for Russian TV given that it's Abdrazakov and Bashmet conducting (who looks surprisingly sober!), not to mention the usual unison clapping and hilarious exploding ticker tape.

This is not really very good. His high notes , he is not producing them forward, as another comment said , it is to much in his throat. Not over the note at all.
