I love you guys - nothing makes me as irritated with the US convenience store and fast food industry as knowing the quality of the sandwiches you can get in Japan. And for the price? Ridiculous. Loved this video - keep making them and we’ll keep watching!

My day isn’t complete without watching at least one Tabieats video. I enjoy all your videos and it helps me remember my happy travel memories of Japan. I just went out to our local Japanese grocery and bought some of Satoshisan’s favorite snacks - yum! I eat them while watching your videos. Love from LA, take care guys! ✌🏼

I made a shrimp katsu sandwich for myself the other day and I loved every bite. I didn't use tonkatu sauce either, though! I just lightly dressed the shredded cabbage with a ginger sesame dressing, enough to help keep it from being dry. It still allowed the flavor of the shrimp to shine through. Looking forward to returning to Japan to try some of these beauties!
This truly was a "delicious video"! Watching my favorite YT couple enjoy each other and yummy, fresh sandwiches was both heartwarming and appetite stimulating. It's 4 am and I'm already planning breakfast! Lol!! Love you both, and sweet Justin. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Convenience store sandwiches and breads are what kept me going when I was in Japan and I'm embarrassed to say I think of them wayyy too often! Really want to try the shrimp cutlet one and the strawberry, custard & whipped cream one as I've only had the standard strawberry and cream ones. I have a special soft spot for these convenience store food videos because like everyone else, I'm so envious you get this stuff around the corner and we just get cheap and nasty overpriced sandwiches with one slice of ham and wilted lettuce!
Yes, you had my favourite two 7/11 sandwiches the Prawn Cutlet & Chicken Katsu, I ate a lot of them when I visited Japan in mid 2019. The Smoked Salmon, Cream Cheese with Capers also looked really good. I also want to try the limited edition Spicy Chicken Karaage roll if I get a chance to visit Japan again.

i wish we have nice sandwiches like this. it would be nice for a small snack or for the to work, but sadly we didnt have sandwiches in our stores. good video btw :)
So what from I understand as to why Japanese sandwiches are crustless. I remember learning about this. It’s to do that Japanese sandwich makers having an obsession with the ‘fuwafuwa’ aspect - to enjoy soft and fluffy textures. The second aspect of crustless sandwiches is due to the enjoyable aspect of the texture. So it’s to not disturb the person eating the soft and fluffy part and then come into crust part! As also wishing to highlight any deformity. It’s simply down to uniformity, convenience of shape and size and visual aesthetics. However, if you wish to know what happens to all the leftover crusts. Yes, most of them get throw away. However, some bakeries reuse the crusts to make rusks and other types of confectionary.
I watch other Japanese vloggers on occasion who prepare eggs in various ways then are incorporated into any meal. Seems to be a popular and probably comparatively inexpensive supplemental protein----It is for me these days. An egg or two with whole wheat toast and a generous side of fresh or cooked produce is dinner on some nights.
I remember in Kyoto at the Miyako hotel I ordered a club sandwich at their restaurant and it had egg on it and I was so confused. I tried it anyway and it was life changing. I wish they did that here in America.

I've heard great stories about the strawberries, custard, cream on super soft bread. I've looked online to see if anyone makes them locally, but no luck.
it's called a BELT, and it's good. There is a shop that makes it fresh to order in the town center with a bagel as the bread and it's awesome. I don't know if it is anywhere else but here in NL, it's called Bagels and Beans, and their coffee is really good too. I usually get it with a large cappuccino and while it is a pretty pricey combo it is so good.
I love the look of the sandwiches in Japan, the presentation is always fantastic. I think that’s why they cut the crusts off, for the presentation maybe
I think its because some people don't eat crusts. Dietary, texture or otherwise. Meanwhile, everyone eats the white fluffy part. Cutting the crust means you don't alienate any potential customers.

So interesting about the tarter sauce. Here in U SA we only put tarter sauce on fish. Now I can’t wait to try it on EVERYTHING! Really enjoy you guys
That's because Japanese style tartar sauce is based on the French Ravigote Sauce, which is served with foods besides fish - such as poultry and meat.
