  • This is our review on the Thrustmaster T-GT Racing Wheel, the Official Wheel of Gran Turismo Sport! The new flagship from Thrustmaster, the T-GT includes quite a few new features, including four rotary dials, two joysticks, and a Tactile Transducer on the rear of the base of the wheel. Is this Thrustmaster's best wheel yet?

    hey will, nice review man, just stoped by to see what you think of this rim. no surprises, I already own and am really happy with my fanatec. but good to know. great job, honest review.

    • @Simracingpaddock

      If the rim was even an inch larger, I would have enjoyed the rim a little more. The leather on it feels surprisingly decent, but having the wheel diameter the same as a Logitech G29/G920, doesn't seem right. I had a BLAST with the Sparco R383 rim though. And I can't help but wonder... What if the rim that's on the new TSPC (that Ferrari rim) would have been a better fit?

    Great review, but I have to correct one point you mentioned:
    At 800 dollars this is still not getting into direct drive (DD) territory. You can't compare a motor to a whole motor+wheel+pedal setup. Only the DD base will cost at least 1300 dollars. Then you still need a wheel (at least 250 dollars for OSW when you choose one with paddles. And you need pedals which are about 100 if you choose the thrustmaster pedals you mentioned in your review. This makes it at least 1650 dollars if you go the OSW route.

    4:25 , you know, it is the game developer that needs to include support for that feature, and for any feature that the wheel or joystick has, also for the wheel itself.
    So yeah, you should not blame the company that makes the wheel, as long as the game/simulator developers are responsible for including support for the wheel in their games.
    Devs are provided with an SDK, if they decide to support any gaming accessory they can.

    Not really in osw territory, they don't come with a rim unless you get an Accuforce. Pedals will still be needed too and not to mention a proper rig to mount the beast to. I agree thrustmaster seems to be holding back.

    Great Review again. YES - the PEDAL POLICY from Thrustmaster is really disapointing!!! It actually destroy the reputy for their Servo's. Imagine how the whole "packhage" would be if we saw the TS-XW/T-GT with a proper pedal set. Using so much money for the servo - and getting the loosy PLASTIC pedals!? At least they should throw in the great old T3PA PRO Pedals with the conical mod. AND having a new high-end pedal set WiTH LOADCELL as an upgrade-option.
    - I really do'nt understand why this never have happended a couple of years ago now.
    (i imported Thrustmaster into Scaninavia from 1995, and are still a fan.) BUT i am very dissapointed of how they cannot see the very importante picture of a great packhage that would build them nearer to Fanatec. Fanatec have understood this long time ago.

      okay, but it does not seem right that fanatec does not fully support the compatibility with gt sport. Why I am passionate about gt-sport should not feel the same force feedback that gives me the t-gt compared to the fanatec? In this case fanatec would deserve a tug of ears ...

    Nice review. Not personally into long video or live streams. But really enjoy your shorter information videos. Maby this is the wrong place to ask. But I have a Logitech g25 that I think is dieing and want to upgrade. Have been looking at second hand fanatec csl froza wheel and club sport v1 pedals. Would this be a good combo or do you suggest something else for less than 300 dollars.

    • @Simracingpaddock
      @Simracingpaddock  6 років тому

      Well, given on my past with the Clubsport Pedals V1, I can't really recommend them (V2 and V3 had significant improvements). The Forza Wheel is an "okay" one, but not perfect either. If you can try to hold out a little longer, I know that I have seen the T300RS and 3 pedal set for around the $300 mark.

      Sim Racing Paddock it was the load cell brake that attached me to used v1 cause there about a third cheaper used. What is the problem with them. Also thank you for your feedback. Like your approach to reviews etc. Keep up the good work and keep enjoying what you do.

    Great review, another con for me is the stitching where your thumbs rest, it kills me(I must play with gloves because of this). And the buttons micro switches feel cheap imo
    Plus Fanatec prices with shipping are very close to this wheels price.

    How does this compare to a G29? I’m trying to decide between these two wheels and I’ve never owned one before, but I like the G29 as it includes 3 pedals and the shifter in its package for a pretty reasonable price (~£300)

    I play a lot of GT Sport and use the Fanatec CSL on my channel, but I'm still curious about this wheel. Your review helped, but I wonder how it feels on GT Sport compared to the bugs with the fanatec. It's not fully optimized and that's somewhat annoying.

      That´s no bashing of a game, this exclusive sponsorshit by Sony and Thrustmaster is simply rediculous. So in my opinion, everybody who buys GT Sport or this overpriced Thrustmaster wheel is helping to etablish customer unfriendly deals like this. So if you want a good simracing game on the PS4 go and buy Assetto Corsa

    • @Simracingpaddock
      @Simracingpaddock  6 років тому

      I'm going to be working on a video covering recommended wheels, but my recommendation in this price range?
      Fanatec Clubsport Wheel and CSL Elite Pedals. You can get this bundle for $689: goo.gl/wRQU5T
      and then add the Load Cell Brake for $129: goo.gl/AUn5Xc
      That puts you at $818, so a hair over the T-GT, but it's a solid setup.
      If you want to stick with Thrustmaster, the TS-PC RACER is for sale for $400 at BHPhotoVideo, with No Sales Tax (except New York) and Free Shipping in US: goo.gl/kxUxsb
      The TS-PC RACER doesn't include pedals, so you could get the CSL Elite LC Pedals for $200, and that still puts you at the $600 mark.
      Note: TS-PC RACER is ONLY PC compatible, but the Clubsport Wheel is compatible with the Xbox One as well.

    Shame that they put out such an expensive wheel that doesn't provide enough value for the money.

    I use a T300RS and it 's doing ok, but the pedals aren't that good.I expected more for 350 Euro's.Before I had a much cheaper Logitech GT driving force pro which only costed 125 Euro's and I really enjoyed that thing.The steeringwheel didn't have the strong ffb the T300RS has, but it was very good for it's pricerange and the pedals felt a lot more crisp and precise than the more expensive T300RS.So if you want to enjoy simgames on playstation I would advice first time steeringwheelbuyers to first try different and cheaper wheels.The more expensive wheels will usually be better than the cheaper ones, but not good enough to justifie their high prices...If your not a die-hard simfanatic and just want to have a more emercive and fun experience playing racinggames than with a controller, than a cheaper wheel will give you more bang for your buck.You don't need an expencive wheel to have fun.

    Right now on Amazon fanatec are selling their Csl elite pro bundle (with the three pedals and load cell) for $879+tax+shipping. That’s about $1000+ for fanatec (without shifter). On their website it’s that exact bundle is $679 but the pedals aren’t available till feb. 17. Where did you find the $499+$129 price?

      Currently Fanatec in the USA has the CSL Elite Setup + 2 Pedal Set bundle on sale for $499. Add the $129 third pedal, and that's $629, a $50 savings :)

      Sim Racing Paddock thanks for your quick reply. I just saw that on their website. But the issue is it’s a pre-order because the 2-pedal won’t ship till feb. 17. But that’s an amazing buy. And if I add the third load cell brake does the “third” extra pedal that came with the original set become the clutch?

    • @Simracingpaddock

    just got this wheel after having g29 then t300rs gt and now this, i payed £400 for it ( $518 ), really happy with the wheel, i realise we are 2 years on from this review but as we know tech moves slowly in the wheel space and its still thrustmasters top dog, i found the t300rs a hair smoother overall, particularly when its off but the TGT feels a bit faster and more powerful for sure, the wheel size is perfect for me and im glad all the buttons and dials work with most games, i can adjust traction and brake balance on the fly with dials in ACC just like gt sport, gt sport has had its fair share of updates and support and is a stronger game today that launch ever was which means this wheel still holds its own if you like to play that game. overall im really happy with it, i have the t3pa pros but next up for me is the TLCM pedals and together i think it will be a great package at a price still short of most DD wheels.
    cant believe how much hate the wheel got in your comments, i guess that RRP price was really a big sticking point, i wouldnt have payed $800 for it, but the price i paid it is really nice. i know the logitech g29 and g920 go for sooo much cheaper but gosh they are so grindy im suprised they dont put more people off than turn them on to it, i was so close to dropping sim racing altogether when i had a g29, convinced that all wheels must feel like that but im glad i jumped on the t300, it opened my eyes.

    Got to agree with what you said mostly. But for someone who mainly plays GTS its a no brainer, there is no better wheel. Maybe this might depend on your rig setup but for me I feel the vibration in the pedals, its like I can feel the car under me. No other wheel, even direct drive would feel as good. And I do have a richmotech loadcell for my old T500 pedals but I realised they are useless for GTS, undriveable with the way GTS calibrates pedals (but I guess if they did include a loadcell in these pedals the game would be different). For racers its GTS or bust at the moment, PC sims are only good for hot lapping (iRacing has weird physics and terrible graphics & car selection) and the rest have a laughable online component, so IMO every racer should be on GTS in 2018 and looking at this wheel.

    • @hueysharapova7175
      @hueysharapova7175 4 роки тому

      I've been having similar thoughts about the race community. I feel like people just need to pick one game so the driver pool is not split between games. I hear good stuff about rFactor2, but its PC only, has no casual online presence, and isn't going to have big E-sports events. I think people just need to accept the fact that you don't need 100% true to life physics and realism in order to race, and just go to GT Sport.

    They're riding on Gran Turismos coat tails with this one and banking on peoples ignorance of their options, how else could you explain their pricing of it? When a small bump in price will get you a decent fanatec rig which has some degree of upgradability for future investments into sim racing.

    How does it compare to T300RS??

    • @jinx20001
      @jinx20001 4 роки тому

      t300rs is actually a touch smoother on rotation but everything else the TGT kills it, the rim is so much more user friendly, the force feedback is stronger and a touch faster, and rotation in general is faster, its clearly a better design with the power supply outside the case and smart venting to aid cooling, it never overheats, paddles are a little smaller but a bit more tactile, overall its a clear step up, the base is even made of a much nicer to the touch plastic, its a really really nice wheel and base. its price was always a touch too high, probably because of the association with polyphony and official FIA use but you can find them a good chunk cheaper today, if you can make money back off your t300rs this wheel will be a nice upgrade.

    I think it's overpriced... The only target of buying it is to play GT Sport and only GT Sport. Propably using a conical brake mod and setting the linearity of the brake, you can get closer to LC feel and that will be enough for console titles and... alien drivers in GT Sport :P

    • @humanbeing9079

      You're right but most "sunday" racers don't know that or they hate sensors that react to strength because they do not understand what the load cell is for. Big brands like Thrustmaster or Logitech use it to continue to sell repackaged products at a higher price. it's sad but the mass market is working like that :/

    I think you forget the power of the ts xw because they have identical force feedback strength lol same motor also except for that thing for the gt game lol and slightly different pedals I love all of tour videos but this is the same wheel I'm sry its repackaged 100 percent the ts xw is the same just one difference that's it same power same brushless motor still feel the notches slightly same way used both there identical side by wide feel the same exact way but the price is ridiculous but what do you expect when Sony is involved just horrible you can get the full set up from fanatec with the cswv2.5 for this price right now and it's way better built

  • @OhItsThat
    @OhItsThat 6 років тому +16

    Two of my Fanatec wheels have vibration motors in them. I dont see what the big deal is.
    Rant time....This wheel is aimed at PS4 GT players who don’t have a concept of DD wheels or better equipment. TM sees them as suckers.
    It’s also aimed at those Thrustmaster fanboys who only care about brand loyalty. I think if you’re on pc you would have to be a halfwit dummy to buy this wheel. Seriously!
    You can buy a CSW V2.5 with a vibrating F1 wheel for about the same cost. Then go find you some used Thrustmaster or Logitech pedals...doesn’t matter what condition as they’ll most likely perform the same as the ones that come with this wheel.
    You do that and you’ll have a far superior set up then what this wheel and the whole Thrustmaster ecosystem can offer you..Period!
    It really bothers me to see companies producing inferior products and charging up the arse cause it’s a so called official product of something.
    Then to add insult to injury they decide to open their minds and attempt to be innovative for the first time ever and add a feature that already exists in some form in superior products. But because they were paid to open their minds you can only use this innovative feature in one game.
    Don’t let Thrustmaster be your master. Buy products that promote free use of features.

      but then if your going to pay that much for a v2.5 then youre a halfwit too,dd wheels are not that much more and are way better,so calm down fanatec fanboy
      $800 for a cswv2.5 get real

      patchedupdemon damn bro...you got really got mad when I talked bad about this wheel and Thrustmaster. Are you the halfwit dummy who bought it? Haha!! I bet you are. How does it feel to have a wheel that cost 4 times as much as the used PS4 you play GT Sport on? Noobs man.....

      OhItsThat Oh, how self-glorifying big ego words you use... if only those pc uber-race pc drivers that first bought GTSport to show superiority (in FIA championship) didn't RUN AWAY after first few weeks crying "ohhh I'm only slow because this is undriveableee, we are superior and used to better and this is only reason why we finish last in GT... if I could only use my direct wheel theeeen I would show you all..." - then proceeds doing twitch videos playing GT with controller but used only as motion controller in irony... hahaha, irony 😆 And if you disagree with what i wrote, just buy used ps4 for couple of euros (YOU CAN RESELL IT LATER) and actually prove me wrong... i think even adaptors for hooking up direct wheels to ps4 exist for less then a price of one new game, alse resellable.

      patchedupdemon DD wheels do nothing to improve your speed and consistency. They just make life more difficult. Now if you are looking for the full race car driver immersion/experience then I recommend a DD wheel but for competing at the top a G27 will be better. What would increase your competitiveness and consistency is a good set of Pedals, I’m talking v3’s and above.

    But where I'm from it just looks fkn awful @~@
    And is there no LED rev counter on the wheel? Or even an LED square displaying the gear you're in? Whaaaat? Those kind of displays are on Vape pens for like $20 ffs!

    After 150 hours of playing GT Sport with the T-GT i have to say: DON'T SPEND YOU'RE MONEY FOR THIS SHIT! I have to bought new pedals after a couple of weeks, some of the buttons don't work anymore, the screws felt of the wheel because of the vibrations (!!!), it doesn't calibrate when i start the PS4 without manuel moving... by the way, the material is so cheap, it looks cheap, it feels cheap... if i can save only one person, spending his money for this over priced toy wheel, my mission is successful!!!

    It's rude to say this, but there are people who are stupid enough to buy a racing wheel to play a game. Asseto Corsa is a game, Project Cars is a game, iRacing is a game & GT is a game. What bothers me in this video is that you wasted over $500 just to buy a wheel which isn't going to make you improve your lap times or make you feel like you're actually driving a real car. Whether the T-GT was usable on PC, Xbox or PS you're still playing a game, and on top of all of that, you're not a race driver & you're not an eSport person ( which is the stupidest thing made by humanity in the 21st century ).

    • @nikolastwelve
      @nikolastwelve 6 років тому +2

      It is rude dude, first of all, speak for yourself, but $500 isnt crazy money to spend on a hobbie, unless you are 14 years old. Second, i race with a bunch of other people in a rfactor 2 league, in which the top 5 guys are real life race drivers and infact they do practice in the simulator, specially being more consistent.

      I highly doubt it's a hobby wasting 6 to 10 hours in front of the TV for a game which isn't the real thing at all. I'd rather go go karting instead of having this " immature " hobby.
