Nothing wrong with living simple. Too many folks are slaves to their possessions. If you can be happy with less it saves a great deal of needless stress. Thanks for giving us a window into the expat life!. I'm 46 and been saving for early retirement at 55. Fortunately Philippines makes that possible without hitting the Powerball lottery!
YOU ARE SO SMART/WISE IN LIVING. THAT IS WHY I 100 % BELIEVE IN YOUR ADVICE THAT WE JUST LEARNED FROM OUR MISTAKES. THAT DO NOT MAKE MISTAKES FROM THE SAME MISTAKES. I AM SO IMPRESSED AND YOU ARE MY IDOL... ESPECIALLY TO HANDLE, BUDGET AND TO MANAGE THE LIFE AND MONEY.... STAY FOR WHAT YOU ARE!!!
It’s pretty small for a big guy like you with a girlfriend living with you! You have beautiful plants outside thanks to your gf whose got a green thumb! Disasters in the islands or natural calamities are prevalent in a volcanic island like the Philippines. The Filipinos are used to these calamities and always lean on God for support! So if your spending your life in that beautiful island live like them as you’re doing now and be resilient like them as well! Be happy! God bless!👍👏👏👏
WOW Mr Rich Guy, a flush toilet, toilet seat and shower, we have a toilet and a tabo. I can not have aircon due to chest condition as makes the air to dry so have 2 fans. We dont have TV but do have a great collection of DVDs. I am in Davao so get a few earthquakes. Great work from the guy across the street.
Thanks for the tour bro. Cool, but I had to laugh at the spider jungle. Great heads up to the Carpenter! He is one talented guy! Good job on your place. 👍
This may be considered small by western culture but in Philippines this is a very comfortable living. Beautiful and very neat and organized home. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Can you do more of the exterior/outside, your plants, etc. especially the cabana and maybe do a walking tour to 7-eleven or something. Thanks, again I like that minimalist lifestyle.//
Lots of fin gadgets in your little bedroom. The dining table against that blue wall reminds me of being in a Greek Restaurant. Nice. Thanks for sharing, Steve.
I just have one suggestion, I try to maximize the space in my yacht, and being ex Navy I am partial to hammocks. I would set up some anchor points inside your house to set up a Hennesey Hammock. They are great because they keep the mosquitoes off you, they are super comfortable, cooling and you end up sleeping diagonally so great back support, you have your back and head supported by at least 10 degrees up, which is great for breathing, blood pressue, and waking refreshed and when finished it folds right up on the wall. They are quite interesting to get in, what you do is enter from a slit in the bottom and it closes up with a velcro seal and no bugs ever. You should google it. Perhaps your kiddies might like to try. You can set it up in your kitchen, or lounge, just about anywhere you can imagine.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge of life in the Philippines, with us. It's very nice of you, to allow your viewers into your home, thank you much. I guess, that your humility and kindness, contribute to your sense of joy, happiness and contentment. You are a blessed person. I will continue to watch your channel🙂👍❤️🙏
Steve, thanks for sharing. New to your channel. "What is Rich in The Philippines" video is what caught my attention to your channel. Your home reflects a lot of what you talked about in that video: Simplicity and having the basics in life. You are rich:)
WOW. Amazing I applaud you for your way of living, I am not sure that I can live as simply as that but you appear to be very happy and that is what matters. Keep up the good living.
Hello there... I’ve just recently chanced on your channel and vlogs... first I would like to congratulate you on your renewed life and lifestyle. It’s just amazing when we discover that it really doesn’t take much to be content and reasonably happy. I am Filipino by birth and living in California. I did live the first 25 years of my life in the P.I. so I get it. You’ve adjusted well and adapted enough to live a local lifestyle. Cavite is a great location, close to metromanila, although personally I believe that all cities anywhere in the world are the same... overpriced, overcrowded, and generally not a very forgiving place. Best of luck to you friend, and may you always find that sunshine.
Hi Steve, am following you now daily and catching up on all your videos. Its very enlightening and look forward when I move to meeting up with you. Keith (UK)
Pretty nice for the price you're paying! I'd only add a heater myself because I'm a sucker for warm showers. Other than that, the fact you're spending like 10 times less than most newbies it's a too good thing to pass it up. I've been less comfortable than I'd be in your place, for double what you're paying.
Yes, if you invest in a read machine you can bake your own bread which is delicious. I live in .Chicago and one loaf of artisan bread her is sometimes $6.00. My bread machine helps in saving a lot of money. Everything is expensive in the US now.
My brother and his family lives there, with their apartment rentals and surveying office by the Trece Martires Market. Im so fascinated that you love to live their, my husband is also a Caucasian and a retired Marines, we have a house in Imus, Cavite but my husband doesnt like to live there! Keep safe sir and good luck to you and your girlfriend.
That is amazing Steve! I have not decided where I want to live in PI but any rent under $500/mo will be great for me but I’ll want most all amenities and security with not many expats.
Catching up on some of your older vids. I'd usually visit for about a month each time, but for jungle warfare training. A cot or hole in the ground were all that we had, but learned to make the tiny space pretty comfy during the stay. I would look for a nice apartment with a good bathroom and shower, with a small kitchen and fridge. With the black/brown outs that tend to happen, I would splurge for an emergency solar generator for some LED lights and keep the fridge running. Maybe a laptop as well. Thanks for the show.
Nice little place, l like it, you have everything you need, very neat and clean. Too me small is beautiful, less stress of maintenance and cleaning. Your little garden is beautiful......:-)
WOW you must be a rich guy LOL, a toilet seat and a shower, we have a toilet no seat and a bucket of water and a tabo. Looks a nice place mine is a kitchen/dining room and a bed room and a CR, took off the doors for venterlation and just got an insect screen in our bed room. Have 2 fans as can not use aircon due to my chest problem as it makes the air to dry.
May I ask if it's easy to find a place like that in that town Steve? I plan to move back once the pandemic eases a bit! Your place is fantastic, I love the greens around your house! Thx for sharing your lifestyle which is very humble in every sense of the word!
Beautiful place! Looks very comfortable I live in Israel. A place like this where I live can be had for maybe a thousand dollars a month, or it's shekels equivalent. Unbelievable.
Thanks for doing this video. I would be fine living in that space, except that I love tools and love to tinker and fix stuff. I would need a shed the size of a two car garage for tools and shop space. 🛠
Whew!! Bright, bright blue!! My place is only 600 sq. ft, but seems quite large compared to yours? I too, like to keep things organized. Currently, my New Year's resolution is going through old stuff that needs to be tossed, saved or donated, which isn't as easy as it sounds. One thing I know I wouldn't like is the open shower right by the toilet in the bathroom. I prefer enclosed shower, so there isn't water everywhere that will need to be wiped down.
I could totally live there. I wouldnt need nearly as much stuff tho, it would just be me..at 70.00 a month, I could retire for the rest of my life if I sold my house.
I have a small townhome in batangas, town called Playa Layla, small and about 600 sq feet. Walking distance to the beautiful beach. Right now I’m back state side and riding out the winter in the south. I would be there retired if it were not for the CCP virus. I really miss the peacefulness there. Hope your stay there is peaceful, blessed and full of adventure. Born in Lowell Ma.
You've made the most of the limited space you have. I'm not sure where you are going to put the patio, however. Maybe you can show and explain that in another video. Thanks

That's my goal too. Return to the Philippines in a few years and just live a simple life.
Just be careful.... it’s not what it used to be. I know, I’m retired here
As they say, to each his own.
DON'T you have safety concerns to live an independent house like that?I would rather choose a condo or subdivision with guards
