totally agree, tons of ppl miss out on all the bargains out there just 'cuz they don't do their homework and ask around, or they don't want to spend a few hundred bucks just to fix 'em a bit .....
I like your way of thinking, By paying 70 a month for rent you could afford to hire someone to do the work if you didnt want to do it your self. And still have money to travel around a bit to.
You gotta have a trusted local to do the initial inquiry for you. Otherwise, 9 out of ten, most landlords will simply up the rental price when a foreigner inquires about the rent. The other thing is that when an expat community grows like in Dumaguete for example, the rents go up because the demand goes up from people who can actually afford these higher rents.
That definitely helps in the process if a Filipinas does the negotiation for sure. If you pay some in advance they will buckle and bring down the prices. They love to get money upfront always.
Great vid sir. Im happy you did it. I think the reason alot of us do the high rise condo thing is because of the security and other amenities. Being safe is a priceless thing in my opinion. Especially with this covid pandemic desperate ppl will do desperate things.

Hi! I just found your channel, thank you so much for your videos, especially this one! Did I get that right? You're in Cavite? So close to Manila and still such great deals? The whole video was eye opening. The main points I got were: * NEGOTIATE -- everything is negotiable. Offer to pre-pay for the whole year lease term to get a discounted price * Perspective -- put some elbow grease into making a place livable if you're staying long term * Look around and SHOP around * Don't pay to rent other people's furniture You crammed this one full of useful info! I am planning to move to Philippines probably at the end of 2021, that's when it looks like it'll be possible to finally travel. I've bookmarked and subscribed to your channel and will really dig into all your other videos. THANK YOU
I rent a furnished house in a subdivision in Cebu for 15K PHP a month. I'd love to get something much cheaper and I'm thinking about moving to Cavite. A couple of things mentioned in the video: First about roaches, the owners aren't going to provide exterminators. You have to accept as part of life here and just buy bug spray. It doesn't necessarily means a filthy place. This if the PH so you're going to have problems with insects/Bugs. Knowing your neighbors is important and learning to deal with Noise. I live next door to a chapel and they have their annual fiesta and other things. They used to ring a loud bell at 0415 AM and I had to address b/c it was waking me out of a deep sleep. Be careful about living right next door to chapels. It's not like the US where they just gather for an hour on Sunday. It can be a headache.
It’s not always about the cost of the house, but the character of the neighbors. I think Tennessee has beautiful land and nature, and the people are friendly and helpful, but they aren’t of the same mind as me, politically, theistically, and in other aspects of their attitudes. The people of the Philippines are also wonderful people, but I can’t sit around drinking red horse out of a shared cup with folks whose entire world view was formed in a space half the size of my small hometown. This is the reason I live in a high rise condo in a western alcove. I can take only a little bit of country life at-a-time. Good idea for a future video, to discuss the cultural aspects of living among a population. Some culturally immerse, others (me) surf above the local culture and just enjoy the nature that’s here rather than getting too involved with the culture. Another aspect you could address is each person’s desired comfort level and means to achieve that. Being wealthy, for me the rent on a city condo with rooftop pool and gym is pocket change. If I spent 4x on rent what I do it wouldn’t impact my ability to spend on travel or anything else. Okay, I’m an extreme example, but you get the point. What’s cheap scales with a person’s means. Another video topic right there.
@@Huskerdoo I agree with both your comments and think in the same vein. I don't mind paying for our nice "expensive" condo right across the mall in Quezon City and I love the amenities and convenience. Totally agree with your comment on how they like to pass the time in the province. One time after drinking and singing karaoke all afternoon, after dinner, I asked my wife's relatives what they wanted to do the rest of the night. They all said "let's go to a beerhouse"...lol And while I do also enjoy spending time by the beach, after the 5th BBQ's by the beach and I'm done...haha. I can only take 2-3 weeks of provincial life at a time. I couldn't find my sport, Racquetball, to play in Pinas. So I went on meetup.com and found a group of table tennis players who met up every Saturday morning in the city. Most of the players took up the sport in college and all of them were either businessmen or working professionals. We then starting hanging out and having lunch together after our morning table tennis and it was great. Wonderful to talk with them about business, culture, and the world in general.

You get what you pay for, though. Some UA-camrs in the Philippines complain about Filipinos and karaoke parties every night. They normally live in the cheaper housing areas. If you live in an Expat area, more than likely...you can avoid the noise. Just my thought.

Price depends on your location. I have lived in Cebu for a couple of years. Pricy! and now in Mindanao, also quite pricy, and hard to find a good rental. In Malita I found a house with garden, not too bad condition, for 6000 pesos a month. We live now for more than a year in Digos, paying 7K for an old house. Not much available here. Renting unfurnished everywhere, furnished places cost a lot. Typically, many landlords do not care about the house, so you will be the one to upgrade. I asked for one year before they finally were ready to change a rotten, cockroach infested door and frame to the bathroom. No kitchen, really! The thing is that you really do not know the neighbours, and noise from shouting men, loud music from 6 am, roosters, dogs etc. Cockroaches, lizzards and ants are there along with dengue carrying mosquitos. We fight them constantly. Furniture, aircon, fridge, TV, a shower, sinks, tables, nails, plumbing, electrical issues, it all cost money. But since we are stuck here, and our neighbours are good, I decided to upgrade the place step by step. If you can find a good apartment for 3500 pesos, it sounds great man! but how far is it from a hospital? 7-Eleven? Malls? banks? markets? Immigration office? I lived in the real remote village for 2 years. 2-3 hours from atm, 5 hours from immigration. Spending money on hotels for visa extension. There was no bread, no butter, no beef, no lamb, no goat meat. Only pork, chicken and fish. Extremely boring.
We pretty much got all that you mentioned under control just doing everything I mentioned in my videos. Some people will never change. They think they need to spend $40 per night on airbnb for a room for a night when traveling. When they do this they stop themselves from staying in vacation area's. Just try to find a motel in some area's you want to visit that is a "western" style. Spending more does not mean it's better, or not have bedbugs, mosquitos or bad service. Back in America they were the ones that went to Safeway instead of Winco, saying the same exact box of cheerios was better at Safeway. That's ok, that leaves more available for me, better food at best prices, better rentals, better people to hang out with (Filipino's not Americans or Australians). We should stop telling them our secrets.
