  • This incredible journey is my second recent flight with Captain Gavin, so sit back, relax and enjoy the full flight from Vancouver BC to Victoria BC in a Harbour Air, De Havilland Otter. Gavin is an amazingly skilled and talented pilot for Harbour Air. Join me as we go through the safety briefing, start up the engine, taxi to position, and take to the skies above the stunning port of Vancouver and land at my home of Victoria, BC, Canada. It's a beautiful journey. We are flying in C-FIUZ.
    Before we begin, it's important to acknowledge that this aerial adventure was filmed within the shared, unceded, ancestral territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations and on on the unceded territory of the Lekwungen people of the Esquimalt and Songhees First Nations. We extend our deepest gratitude to these Indigenous communities for their stewardship of the land.
    This video is more than just a visual treat. My channel is dedicated to bringing you new flight adventures every weekend, allowing you to explore the world of planes, trains, automobiles, food reviews, and tourist attractions in the vibrant capital city of Victoria, British Columbia. New flights land here every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 4:00 am Pacific Time. As my horizons expand, so do the journeys across the vast and beautiful landscapes of Canada.
    In the spirit of giving back, my channel is monetized, and I am thrilled to share that ten percent of my earnings will be donated to various charitable organizations. By tuning in, you're not just enjoying captivating content; you're also contributing to a greater good. Together, we can make a difference!
    I would like to personally thank Gavin and the amazing staff at Harbour Air. On an annual basis, I will donate 10% of the revenue from this video to The Terry Fox Foundation. The Terry Fox Foundation is near and dear to my heart. I live mere blocks from the Terry Fox monument at Mile Zero in Victoria, BC. I visit the Terry Fox monument on a regular basis. I stop and reflect on the incredible legacy Terry Fox left behind. In my eye(I only have one), Terry Fox is one of Canada's true hero's. I have personally lost far to many good people from this horrible disease, cancer. I lost my little sister to breast cancer at 42. Thank you to The Terry Fox Foundation for all you do. Thanks to the fans of my channel, without you, my dream couldn't come true. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I have provided a link, should you wish to make your own donation to The Terry Fox Foundation.

The lounge is such a fun place to meet great people, have fun, engaging conversations and learn from others. Thank you both for your continued support of the lounge. Without passengers, the lounge would a boring visit. Best....Corrie

      @batwithglasses, thanks BB for your always kind words and support, I am truly grateful. Living on Vancouver Island my whole life, I've been surrounded by the Salish Sea. The Salish Sea provides a life for thousands of people for thousands of years, we must protect it. When I hear about shipping mishaps, or prop strikes, it pains me. The Salish Sea and it's inhabitants are a fragile environment. I'm so happy the Salish Sea is special to you as well. Best....Corrie

    Great video. I've lived in Vancouver and Victoria most of my life. Except for a few flights around Victoria and a few flights from Vancouver's airport, I've never seen the with this view.

    You lucky lady. That has to be one of the best airline routes in the world. Nice to see our favourite Beaver taxiing in. Considering it is an overwater flight there is always an amazing amount to see. The visibility over YVR reminded me of the day I flew that route. Beautifully clear though I can imagine it isn't always so. The Gulf Islands look like giant jig-saw pieces, a shame none of them fit the puzzle we're doing😀A steady 90 knots at 4500 feet or more correctly about 4480

You're so right, it is one of the best airline routes in the world and I'm happy you've come along again. Funny you say about the Gulf Islands look like giant jig-saw pieces, I said similar. After looking at the takeoff portion of your flight, and considering the fairly recent incident with the Beaver, I have two (2) points on that. First, I like the practice of doing the run-up while facing perpendicular to the planned takeoff vector. It allows the pilot more opportunity to see the traffic patterns prior to committing to the takeoff. Second, it would seem as though the potentially "obstructed view" from the cockpit that has been suggested may not be an issue, as visibility seems to be adequate to see any oncoming traffic leading up to takeoff.
    When you were mentioning the view of Mt. Baker, inline with that was Delta Airport, a smaller local airport facility that handles small to medium sized aircraft. It is also going under some renovations to increase its capacity.

      @Astromechy, I have flown with Gavin on 2 occasions. He is an exceptional pilot. Mt. Baker is stunning. I didn't realize Delta Airport is inline with Mt. Baker. Thanks for your always knowledgeable engagement, kind words and support. Best...Corrie

    Do you own an aviation headset Corrie? They are required to have another set of "jacks" so the Government folks (our FAA) can sit and listen in while doing "line checks". Often in the otter and twin otter, there will be a set of jacks at that first row bullhead/wall so the FAA guy can sit in row ONE and still plug in. Any interest in listening to the chit chat? If the pilot is okay with it, you can talk with them also. At least here in the States we can.
    Question: So I assume all that sulphur is from the Prarires somewhere ....and gets shipped to Asia??? What is the story on all that yellow powder in N. Vancouver. You are soooooo lucky to live in that super lovely place...and see it (half of it anyway😜) everyday!!!

    • @leftcoastcorrie
      @leftcoastcorrie  4 місяці тому

      @redleader, Hi Damon, I do not own an aviation headset, that being said, there is a "guest" headset in the right seat, I have yet to put it on. Next time I sit in the right seat, I will put my microphone in the headset and see what it can capture. I just bought a really good little Rode mic. I have no idea what the yellow powder is and not sure where it goes, sorry for the unhelpful answer. Thanks for your always interesting engagement, and support, I am truly grateful. Best...Corrie

    Hey Corrie....Dang! Somehow my 5000 word "comment" didnt take! Shoot. Oh well. I was saying...Great video!! I think I prefer the view from the first row. You really got to zoom in on the instruments (for which I made numberous comments but it's gone!) Anyway, JUst so you know you guys landed "on fumes". Ha!! You had about 10 mins of fuel remaining. Pretty sure that aint legal!! Shhhhh.... You're alive arent you!!

    • @leftcoastcorrie
      @leftcoastcorrie  4 місяці тому

      @redleader, thanks Damon, for your engagement and support, I am always appreciative. I'm not positive in my response to landing on fumes, here goes. Being that these seaplanes only fly VFR, they can land almost anywhere between Vancouver and Victoria, it's all a giant landing strip. There is always somewhere to land along this particular route. Best...Corrie

    • @redleader
      @redleader 4 місяці тому

      @@leftcoastcorrie Ha!! yes you are correct in that most flights are VFR. I know nothing about Canadian flight rules. But I can see also that the airplane does not seem to be IFR equiped. One could use the GPS with Artificial views but Im not sure that's legal for flying revenue flights. These are the excellent questions for the pilots!!
