I have my CCA through AHIMA and your videos helped me pass my exam. Now I'm currently struggling with this job search, but all good things will come to those who wait. Thank you so much 🙂
This is a very helpful and informative post. I have two pages of notes and can't believe I have not seen post yet. I got my CPC-A last February and have my first phone interview in 30 minutes. Can't wait for my first job! Thank you so much for your encouragement.
I'm currently in a coding program at my community college and they are during everything through the AHIMA with the CCA/CCS exams; so I'm a member of the AHIMA instead of the AAPC. Is that putting me at a disadvantage? Should I also take the CPC exam as well? And what if shadowing or getting an internship isn't really an option because of the pandemic?
Thanks for the advice!!!! last June I finished my certificate degree in Medical Billing and coding and my CCA certification and I have been looking for a job, your channel has been an useful tool, for me thanks for share your knowledge and experiences!!!
Great info! I have a question. If someone has a master's degree but wanted to have a career change into medical coding to do on the side or work full-time, if they complete the medical coding certificate program and have no experience in the field, will their resume be considered at the top and the employer would consider compared to other new candidates?
I'm about to start a online program for diploma in Medical coding and billing. I do have a diploma in Medical assisting from years ago. In fact, I was in a different industry for the last 10 years and looking into getting back to healthcare but in a different way . Do you think with my medical assisting background, even though it's been over a decade, that could be of advantage to finding a job? By the way, I really appreciate these videos. You do a fantastic job explaining medical coding.! Thank you!
My wife just completed her medical coding courses and will be taking her CPC exam in September. In looking for at the job postings, most if not all medical facilities, hospitals or clinics want at least 2 years experience. How can she secure a position with no real world experience?
Hi mam i wrote medical coding exam last time i got 58% this time also failed can u give advice how to get noncertified job after that later i want to complete exam
I'll be done with my program in November but I may take the certification exam in January? Do you think I should get the 2021 coding books? I have the 2020 now but I don't think I'll be ready to take the test in December
Excellent question. So there's official guidance from the CPC regarding what years books to use. You can use the current year for the year you're testing in, or the previous year, but not the next year's books. So if you're testing in 2020 you will need 2020 books. You can still use the 2020 books in 2021, but you risk that some of the questions on the exam may have changed during the annual code update. I'll actually be touching on this on tomorrow's video. Here's the AAPC Exam FAQs to reference under "What years books can I bring?" www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx
Recently I have passed my online CPC exam from AAPC. Would you please guide me on how to convert my bookish knowledge into technology? As to get a good score in the exam we only depend on books and now what to do?
@@ContempoCoding in response to this, I'm seeing that work experience is good if you want to take the ccs. The hospital I'm looking at wants it upon hire but I'm a new grad and don't have it yet and also no work experience. I'm taking the cpc exam this weekend. Should I take the ccs as well or wait?
I remember when you said sometimes there are some that just wanted to take your money. I feel like that what happened to me. I went to this college and before I finish the MBC course they told us that the college was closing because they lost their accreditation. So will I be able to get a job after the closing of the school eventhough I graduated? Please give feedback. Thank you
Great Video! I really enjoyed the part where you were talking about employers restructuring their coding department to include some newer coders. When you were talking about being new and just typing in data, I got excited. That just sounds fun to me. I have never minded repetitive work. This video really gave me some hope. I just finished a class and am studying for the exam coming up soon. P.S. I am also old enough to remember the Mary Tyler Moore theme song. Thanks again for the video.
I've only just started looking into medical coding. I grew up pretty poor so my family couldn't afford higher education for me or my siblings, but I really want to start pursuing a real career, and your videos are helping me get an idea of what to expect. That said I'm very nervous because I don't have any prior experience the medical field so I'm worried about being able to get a job after taking classes. I'll definitely look into the local aapc chapter (maybe I'll see you there, it seems we live in the same area) but I'll definitely be returning to this video in the future.
Yes! And definitely look into any programs locally in a community college or technical school that might have financial assistance or grants. I was raised in a very middle-class family and college was never really pushed. I didn't get into school for medical coding until I was maybe 24 or so, and I went through a degree program at my local community college. I received a workforce improvement grant to pay for my schooling and the school helped me find an internship at the local hospital, which hired me at the end of my internship.

Hi Victoria, I am thinking about getting my CPC certification. Your videos are very inspiring. I just have one question before I start...I have been a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) from the age of 17-26. Then an EKG Technician from 26 to present. I have worked in both hospitals and nursing homes. In August 2021 I am due to finish my Health Science bachelors degree. Is this enough experience to get a job as a medical coder?
Hi, I'm glad I found your channel. I am changing careers and on the pathway to get into coding. I read a news article saying that a software company in California has designed a software that will be replacing coders. I would like your opinion on the future of the career and if you think it is still worthwhile pursuing this field. Thanks again

So any way to help me in that direction is very helpful thank you
I am one of those coders you described who went to one of those "become a medical coder overnight" online schools and I passed my CPC exam but now I cant pass an assessment test for a hospital to get a job. Basically, I was taught how to pass the exam but not how how to code. Very frustrating, now that I have this much sought after cert I cant find work because I dont have experience. Plus many of the coders with experience were laid off due to covid and they are looking for work too. Your advice to start in billing on the ground floor feels comfortable. Im glad I found you!

I am now an Orthopedic Surgery Coder and I still struggle where I am now. I continue to look for remote opportunities because I need the extra money but they won’t touch me.
