I think hateful internet comments are the culmination of what "invisibility" can do to people's conscience and on the contrary, conversing with someone whose "invisible" can take away your empathy. Interesting. HG Wells was awesome. Time Machine is still one of my favorite sci-fi books. Great Video. Cheers.
Keyboard warriors are a great example :) But maybe it's not always hateful comments you'd say to someone via Internet because of the anonymity it provides, but good things too. And H.G. Wells is awesome. I just added The Island of Doctor Moreau to my wishlist. Have a great day!
@@megansreadingrevelations Thats true. Some people wouldnt donate to charity if they couldn't do so anonymously. So I guess the invisibility gives us the freedom to act on impulses we usually reason away without the sense of impending societal judgement, good or bad. Sometimes even praise can be overwhelming. The societal reaction is much less important than our perception of the reaction or possible reaction, and the anonymity allows us to bypass all that because we can be out the figurative back exit before anybody realizes it was us.
Exactly. That was one of the themes I loved in this book although our protagonist used his invisibility in order to commit crimes without repercussions. As someone who is shy, I like when given the option to 'remain invisible' or not :)
@@megansreadingrevelations the invisible man, the time machine and war of the worlds. all of which were 4 or 5 stars! have three others on my physical tbr but cant remember what right now
I expected to like Griffin or at least find some sympathy for him but he really wasn't likeable at all. It's a beautiful illustration of how having the quality of empathy and decency deeply humanises people.
Wow this sounds like a book I might enjoy. It sounds like the character is really quite horrid lol. The Picture of Dorian Gray was the same. Take away the ability for evil deeds to decay you, and you lose your soul in a respect. I’m adding this to my list. I haven’t read any HG Wells.
I loved this wee book so much more than War Of The Worlds. You did a really excellent review here. If you get a chance try watching the old Invisible Man film with Claude Rains, it's pretty cool too. Nice work here Megan :-)
Read it last year. Was kind of ok'ish to me, liked the Time Machine more. Also read War of the Worlds, which was quite funny when comparing to our current day and age. Currently reading Kipps from him every few days, but it will take some time until I will finish that.
my husband and I listened to both The Invisible Man and The Time Machine on audio. I'm with you - I was surprised by how evil the main character was! I wasn't expecting that. Overall, we enjoyed both books. Great review!
@@megansreadingrevelations When it came out, there was an audio recording of him reading it over the radio, and people thought it was breaking news. People legitimately thought events were unfolding and started panicking.

Excellent review! These days there are too few people talking about Wells. My favorite is The Island of Dr. Moreau.
Nice! I added The Island of Dr. Moreau to my Amazon wishlist. I definitely want to read more Wells.

Glad you enjoyed it! I really appreciate classics :)

Love this book, I read back in High school... H.G. Wells, classic awesomeness

I actually only got half way through Dorian Gray. I put it down and just never finished it. I really should reread it sometime!
I highly advise H.G Wells if you like classics and Sci-fi
You need to watch the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Stop being a philistine.
I’ve never read any H.G. Wells, but this sounds really interesting. Another great review!
You should! His books do reflect the time period in which they were written, but the concepts are great!

Thank you for the kind words! I am definitely looking to watch a film adaptation now!
Claude Rains was so great in the movie, still one of my favorites

I loved War of the Worlds and have the same thoughts! I loved the mass panic scenes with horses and buggies lol :)
Love from India to you and your channel
You should read the Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury another classic that I really enjoyed
I loved that one as well. Bradbury is one of my favorite authors :)
Also the 1933 film, Claude Rains was great
I've heard that! I'll have to see if I can find it to watch.

Was the audio version good? Sometimes the narrator can really add something extra :) I also enjoyed both books!
@@megansreadingrevelations Yes, the audios are great!
Terrordrome Reign of the Legends
I read war of the worlds. I liked it. He knows how to terrify an entire population haha
Haha I've heard it really scared people when it came out!
