i think crystal oscillator is not capable to produce enough power.

so this crystal osc amplifies the signal from 5V to 7V?

actually crystal oscillator adds its own amplitude in the source signal, this condition arrives when the crystal oscillator and source frequency is tuned at resonant frequency
otherwise it suppresses the source signal
