The drums on this one (and all Soen releases so far) are former Opeth drummer Martin Lopez. He did six with Opeth, so yeah you are getting a hell of a drummer!
Yeah... I recognise his style, especially from songs like Deliverance.
Jim, glad you enjoyed the beginning of this album! The progressive metal moments the clean arena rock choruses , surprisingly work great together! This was one of my favorite records from 2019. Its a very beautiful record and so digestible , but does not get boring! Thanks for the reaction! I enjoyed it so much! Appreciate you!

I don't think I've ever given Soen a full album play, but I like most the individual songs I've heard here and there.

Same here! Well... sort of - we arrived just as they were finishing their set so pretty much missed it!
Good album, probably their best, last two albums have just been copies of this, same thing over again. Don't need any more if you get the first four, no progression since then, stuck in the same style. My copy of this opened up at the front to reveal the inner sleeve inside.
I think Imperial was really good, but yeah, they're artistically stucked in this style... I didn't really love any song on Memorial, too much the same things of the previous albums
I like Soen, I've got all 6 albums. Lotus is part of my personal Trinity of albums Nr 2 - Tellurian - Nr 3 - Lykaia and Nr 4 Lotus. The first album - Cognitive - was good, but a bit to Tool-ish, before they found their own style. I remember some stupid comments in amazon bei Tool fans, talking of a Tool clone, another one didn't like the voice - he's missing the "sickness-factor" .... what ??
I personally think, that the voice is the characteristic, which divides Soen from other bands . Joel Ekelöf is a great singer ... I love his clear and strong voice
albums Nr 5 - Imperial and Nr 6 Memorial are not quite as good as the others, especially on the new one they make Joel try to sound harder .... for me the wrong way ...

Never heard of this band.
Energetic heavy start of the first song.
Yes Jim, I appreciate these clean vocals very much 😅.
Not bad at all this song. I like the transition into the softer part.
Second song is even better. Again that lovely mellow part in the song.
Third song. Heavy riffs. I love the drumming in combination with the base.
Somehow I seem to love bands from the Scandinavian region. Opeth, Nightwish, Kaipa, Havnatt, Heilung, Wardruna, Danheim, Antti Martikainen. And I haven’t mentioned the electronic music bands like Amethystium.

A decent one from them. Soen gets better the further back you go. Unfortunately I couldn't give the last two albums more than one listen.
This is the only Soen album I've spent much time with, which is odd as I like it quite a bit. A good reminder to check out more from them.
