    Thank you for this fascinating information...
    I was photographing a squirrel last week in a Wych Elm, and he was snacking on the seedpods too .
    With big bunches in his little hands he looked like a cheerleader at an American college football game...

    So THAT's what makes a mess of the streets every May! It's a shame they don't stay fresh for long.

    Errr, was it just me or was that NOT. witch elm you were showing with the seeds?! : )
    ..or definitely did not have W shaped leaf tips, they were just pointed

    I honestly think it would be a better idea to plant them instead of eating them because of how endangered they are.

    Could I make a tea out of the bark like slippery elm? or the leaves maybe?

    Have you tried the pickled seed pods yet? Curious to hear how it went! Great channel by the way, I’ve been binging your videos for the past few hours. There are a lot of similarities between the flora and fungi in the UK and in the south of Sweden, where I live. Interestingly enough, chicken of the woods doesn’t have the same reputation as a good food mushroom at all here. I will try it though, with a small sample at first of course.

      Thanks. Yes the pickled seed pods were ok but I actually prefer them fresh. Chicken of the woods is very nice, but it’s best deep fried of cooked for a long time otherwise doesn’t have a nice texture :)

    are there other species of elms in the UK?

    • @UKWILDCRAFTS
      @UKWILDCRAFTS  2 роки тому

      Yes there’s quite a few. Wych elm and English elm are the most common though I think

      Plant the seeds straight into soil fresh, harvested just as they start drying on the tree. No stratification needed, they'll germinate straight away.

      @@fablebladesI’ve done lots of searches asking if ALL types of Elm seeds are edible, and I can’t find anything on this. Can you recommend a source? Thanks
