I went as an 8 year old kid in 1970. Loved it, especially the Lost World boat ride, as well as the Astrodome across the highway. I saw the Astro's beat the Dodgers on that same trip from New Jersey.

I still remember them adverstising the Mayan Mind Bender when they decided to build it. I feel like no other Theme Park will feel the same as it did at Astroworld.

Astroworld use to be lit back in the day. Concerts galore and who can forget the Boogie Fog Disco. Went in the 70’s and 80’s. It’s sad that Houston doesn’t have a theme park.

I rode the Texas Cyclone one time. It jerked a person around too much and beat the sides of my legs up. I liked the one I think was called Greased Lightning --- the one that was a loop and then you went backwards. I rode that one seven times in a row. It was late, and there weren't many people left. No line. They made us go all the way back down and all the way back through to get on it again each time, even though nobody was there waiting. We were teenagers. We did it.
I went there four times in my life. The first time I was three or four years old, too little for most of the rides. I remember that day --- getting to 'steer' one of those cars on that track. I went twice as a teen, and I took my kids the last time I went. My sister and other family took them several times.

@Peter Rabbit - Pianist-Composer ♫ No ride made me dizzy or nauseated back in the day. I liked the spinning stuff the most. Loved the tilt a whirl. Loved to spin around on the dance floor with a partner, too.
Now, for the past decade, I have severe vertigo. Riding in a car, or turning my head too fast makes me dizzy and nauseated. It's like living on a roller coaster and not having any fun doing it and not being able to get off of it.
Hate that you didn't get to enjoy that ride like I did. Being dizzy and nauseated sucks.

@@sabrinashelton1997 Sorry so long in my reply. I was in the hospital for over a week and recovering more here at home, still. (Dealing with the vertigo, and how I have to deal with it, was something for the nursing staff to deal with ... Someone trying to help me makes it harder, because my vision and perception is involved -- so someone beside me moving around in my peripheral vision brings on a heightened vertigo episode or worsens it.)
But, they did the Epley maneuver on me back in 2008, and I was good for four years. So it was benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), I would say. But in 2012, it came back and the Epley maneuver didn't work. The condition has morphed into something as I try to compensate, and I have balance issues. I have other health problems I never had before, due to an inability to be as physically active as I was before. They didn't pin down a definite 'cause' in 2012.
I think I always had something wrong with me, growing up, when I think back on things, but I played sports in school (mostly volleyball, making the cut) and I compensated in ways. I never got dizzy spinning round, but I could never do a cartwheel. I could shoot a basket from far away, but could not do a lay up, getting all confused under the basket. As an adult, and over time, I got to where I could spin on the dance floor in a 'secure' feeling only when my dance partner was both hands on, and not spinning me alone, if that makes sense. I miss dancing.
What causes yours? Do they know?

It’s a shame Houston couldn’t having onto their theme park. Thankful Six Flags over Texas is still going strong in DFW.

Sucks that AstroWorld had to close mostly because of Six Flags' poor management at the time. Thankfully the spirit of the Texas Cyclone lives on here at Six Flags Great America as Viper

100% truth: Astroworld became too black. It into as easily accessible hood babysitter and bigger paying customers stopped coming. The end. Disney and Universal have their prices high enough where only upper upper middle class can enjoy so they never have this problem

Biggest mistake they ever made was selling summer long passes and the mothers would drop their little thugs off to create hell all the time. Before that it was a different world and it was great.
