I'm honestly baffled that we are still making mistakes like this even to this day. Even if the tornado was coming straight at you, the road you took in headed northwest - it was always the better option, even if the tornado shifted north.
Speaking of New Mexico and that day in May...holy cow that was another insanely dangerous day that almost got a bunch of us injured or worse. A typical case of sitting ducks, something we're starting to see way, way more often. The clip you showed was for people on the north side of the storm, but the south side of that storm was an absolute disaster. Too many people, at least 300 of us, a local blocking everyone on a storm moving south. As soon as the RFD came crashing down, had Hank not pulled forward on the left lane, we may have all been in the path of what likely could've been a significant tornado. That event honestly probably deserves a retrospective in some form or another, especially with regards to figuring out what to do when locals decide to block traffic, or escape/planning strategies to consider before getting into a situation like that. Storm chasing is gaining a lot of attention, which is cool for this community, but it's becoming too crowded, and there will come a day where we're going to have a major disaster on our hands.
