    I see people moaning about the handlers rushing across to the track. All i can say is thank god they did. If they hadn't got hold of him with the others dogs hammering around the final bend it doesn't bear thinking about. I love watching videos of Scurlogue. some of his races give me goose bumps. so glad i grew up in the time of being able to watch him race. R.I.P. fella

    Bob was a very very good dog over his distance and yes they should not have raced together. Politics aside though why they raced is only my grandparents choice. Media, money non stop phone calls everyday asking why they would not meet Bob in a head to head.??????? He was our pet he was never treated as a famous dog that needed special treatments so I think they just thought WHAT THE HELL! He was a dog not the president! Bob was and still is an Icon and so too is the champ in our eyes.

      What fantastic memories your family 'pet' gave the greyhound followers of this country, my friend! There will never ever be a dog like Scurlogue again. I saw him win at Haringey when there was no way he should/could have won, but he did! To Ken, your nan and Ginger, we owe a great debt. :-)

      The champ in a two dog race would have beaten bob over six or eight because of the clear run. Fact. I love Bob and champ and both are the absolute legends of the sport. Rest in peace both. And will watch then both til the day I die

      Looking at their best distances it looks like Frankel vs Black Caviar. A race between those two would have settled nothing is it would the wrong distance for both.

    oh my goodness, we have been out of the dog business now for some years so I couldnt comment. 20 years on with all the technology and recovery aids etc I would of thought they would or should beat him. A bit like an sportsman these days. I hope dog racing is as exciting these days as it was for us, I travelled all over Great Britain with Scurlogue and met some very famous people, it was fantastic.

    scurlogue won 51 of 63 races, all offered , not hand picked!!!!! before the opposition were selected most times, and also 20 track records and some still stand. 2 years and 1 month of racing career, not many do that.
    Odds on 55 times how often does that happen

    She probably has, however the other dogs in this race were so fast over four bends that scurlouge champ who was so far behind forgot what he was doing and chucked it. He was an 8 bend dog and could give other stayers a good start and beat them as long as he kept them in sight.

    scurlogue did chase the bloomin hare, it was part of his training at home. Yes he chased the dogs then the hare., correct nothing wrong with that. Horses are very similar!!!!! He was by no means a sprinter he was long distance yes, so whats wrong with that. He was a superb dog and not one of his races were turned down. My grandparents went against all the families wishes to think about each race card, but they never. Whatever was asked of that dog he tried his hardest. He NEVER gave up!!!!!

    Scurlouge Champ was a clever dodger thats all, anyone like me who has trained greyhounds have seen them. Scurlouge never chased the hare and in this race was so far behind he forgot what he was there for, sure the racegoers loved him but old Bob was the real deal, a heart like a lion, staying power and knew what he was chasing. Sadly though wasn't so good at stud as he was at racing, pity about that

    No he never, he never gave up on any of his training nor any other race so why say that about this race. Because it was against bob. we never went there thinking he was going to win, it was too short. My grandfather was requested so he complied. Simple as that. he didnt want to turn it down and look a coward , ithink that was the thing. I was in race horses and its just the same.

  • @mag7darts
    @mag7darts 7 років тому +7

    It was always going to be Bobs win even if the Champ had not gone lame,the trip was too short for Champ in his later years but would have been interesting if the owner of bob would have dared to go at Champ over 850m now that would have been a race

      @@redrobin591 exactly, why are all these clowns who most likely never owned a dog, saying one dog is better than another. this race was purely for propaganda purposes and never was going to mean anything. it would be like putting red rum in the derby or making chris froom race on the bike track against chris Hoy. It was rather stupid i have to say, putting these dogs in the same race over this distance, your family did scurlogue no favours and all it did was stain the dogs reputation. i'm sure some good money was made out of it though for somebody, no doubt your uncle. if it was my dog however i would never have put his reputation at risk like this, what was the purpose other than making some money by using the dog as a circus act. shame on your uncle for that. he was and always will be a great greyhound. if only his owner had the same class

    As extra ordinary,as scurlouge champ was,there was no way he could give ballyreagan Bob a 20 length start and a beating round Wembley over 710.......had the race played out,as people expected that night,even with the freakish whirlwind finish that the champ had,I think Bob on the night still a good 5-6 lengths winner......Bob was a machine over 6 bends,the champ always impressive over 8 bend slower dogs......Bob just too good over this trip........a real shame the race didn’t pan out as expected.........Bob was pure class,the champ,somewhat a freak of nature.could run this race 50 times,still would be only one winner....

    You can`t see it very well in this video but if you look to the bottom right at 21-22 seconds there is a guy who`s presumably a marshal or something similar running towards the rail (from the inside of the track)and pulls back his right arm as if about to throw something? I think it`s likely the guy who jumped out to help Scurlogue Champ who reportedly turned round the wrong way but it just looks odd. Really looks like he`s pulling his arm back ready to throw something?
