You can’t go wrong Jed , I own a 2014 rt . Great all around motorcycle. In the market for a 21 or 22 1250rt . I’ve watched many of your vids , I’ll become a subscriber now . Hope to see lots of content on your new rt . Most rt vids come out of Europe. Would love to see the rt out there in California.
I believe they are the same color. just a great bike quick easy to maneuver it’s wide almost 40” that takes some time to get use to. i commute to encinitas from temecula for work and I don’t feel beat up like i did riding the street glide . see you on the rode
Congratulations......I have to admit every once in a while I stop by the BMW website and click on the "build your own". Getting an RT is tempting. Looking forward to your ride review of the new bike.
Decisions like this make me crazy. I came from a S1000R to the GS, but fully expected to buy an RT. Both were in stock, and after weeks of research I'd convinced myself that the RT was the bike for me. The S1000R and my back hated each other, and a few years prior I had a Honda ST1300, that agreed with all my body parts, so the RT was the bike. That all changed after test riding both. Being 2019 the RT still was a couple steps behind on the electronics vs the GS. I felt as though the RT was a bit short and crampy for my size, and crappy posture. Good god, I won't forget that day anytime soon. The nearest BMW dealership is 3 hours from my door step, and I'm not going home without a bike. The dealer pointed at the GS, but I was hesitant because I was 99% road, unless it turned into gravel, so the appeal was not there. Changed my tune after a test ride though. lol. I love my GS. The only negative is the tire width, They just hate tar snakes. You made the right choice Jed, with the RT, and so did I. We ride our own horse, not what others think is best. Even though I think Kenny would like us to think there is only one horse in the barn worth considering.. (Don't tell him that) hehe. 😁
Not crazy at all. Motorcycles are for recreation and when I begin to wonder if I would enjoy a different bike, I know that I have moved on already and I have to scratch that itch. I'm currently on a 2021 GSA and I really enjoy this bike but I also know that my curiosity has been peaked a couple of times for other machines. I'm not sure if I could do the RT myself. The knee angle seems too aggressive for long rides. My hips aren't the issue, it's my knees. I like long trips and need that leg room. The RTs are amazing bikes though. I say do it!
Jed - I’ve enjoyed your channel for a while now and I can’t wait to hear how you get on with the new bike. I went through the same experience last year and although I’ve only managed 6k km so far I couldn’t be happier. Despite the ‘old man image’ I find the RT much more fun to ride quickly. It flips from side to side easier and I feel more engaged due to the narrower bars, 17” front and more forward position. It could also be the shorter wheelbase. Not to disrespect the GS (I had 4 in a row) but for me not doing any gravel it just fits me better. Fitting a full Akra system and getting it Brentuned has helped too!
SImon, thanks very much for sharing that. I'm hoping to get from the RT exactly what it sounds like you've gotten. (And I hope to retrieve it from the dealership sometime next week. We'll see. Wow, Akra and Brentune! How you put it on a dyno? I'm curious what that does to HP and ft-lbs!
@@TheJedRides Haha, I know that feeling - We waited 6 months ‘til ours arrived. I’d love to put it on a dyno but there aren’t many near me (Vancouver Island) and non that would tune the 1250 motor. I went with the BT because I wanted to make the most of the de-catted system and the plan was to just use their handheld device to flash it myself. Long story short - I ended up having to ship the ecu to them to do it as I was apparently the first with that gen firmware and they had to pull the data from the hardware. I wouldn’t say it gained a load of power but it is so tractable and revvy. I can sit at 50 kph in first and roll on and off the throttle without by jerking. Fuelling didn’t bother me before but I wouldn’t want to go back to stock now. Akra Ti system isn’t loads louder and only really wails over 7k.
This was a fun video Jed! Not judging at all. I understand all your reasons. Love the RT as well however that knee bend would probably be an issue for me. The geometry of the sitting position is a serious enough issue for my terrible neck and upper back problems. Can't wait to see your new horse and watch your review's. Congratulations!
Thanks, Slava! 👍🏼 I totally get it. The knee bend doesn't seem to be an issue for me, but I may end up with bar risers at some point. Looking forward to a ride soon -- BMWs or HDs!
@@TheJedRides it’s a re jigged Africa twin (slightly) and the build quality is not as good also she’s a little underpowered compared to the rt (at least on paper) by the seat of the pants you’d not be left wanting , it does have apple car play and android auto , BMWs connected is awesome (when it does not drop out of connection) make sure the dealer has the latest software update on it if you can, mine took 13 hrs to update , if your getting it new and it has not been updated it can be done at the first 600 (you may need to say your having connectivity issues to get it for free) that’s if you experience, common issues such as , maps dropping connectivity from the phone, contacts not being ported over from your phone book , media not being able to be ported over to the bike, I have had the update and it has been way more stable but the phone dropped out from the bike on the highway the other day leaving me riding not knowing where I was going … other than they and the price tag I can’t fault the bike , me seat get warm on level 5 don’t expect the same level of heat as the grips offer (volcanic) , mostly the same as the gs only newer tech has teething issues , the lights are like a car especially on full beam and there cornering system is awesome, the horn is totally brilliant no more peep peep crappy embarrassing little thing , the front fog lights offer even more illumination at night and give a great added presence , the radar cruise is a game changer I rode a huge stretch of motorway without touching the throttle the other day it’s laughable .. enjoy the bike bro
@@geoffsmith1616 Kenny is already looking to see if he can retrofit the new horn on his 2020 - we were both blown away (literally 😂) by that horn. The bike I’m getting shipped without Active Cruise. It is available as a retrofit (though at present none of the parts to do it have made it to the states) but I have been on the fence as to whether to do it. Sounds like you would endorse.
@@TheJedRides if your doing a lot of riding on highway or in traffic it’s a game changer we have a lot of congested roads and bad drivers here in the uk also a lot of variable speed limits so having this a real luxury , I would imagine it would be a plug n play for kenny providing the voltage is the same in the loom and the plug is , it should be a matter of bolt on plug n play and let them have it … both barrels 😂 , if it had blind spot detectors kenny would be depositing … 👍
NO!! That Kenny is a bad influence LOL. I would say sell the FXLR and keep the GS and get an RT, but too late! The new RTs sure are sexy and I keep eyeing them along with the GSA, but that seating position - looks too sporty for me. But - that 10” TFT! Looking forward to you guys riding the RTs around, so get cracking with the videos! Someone mentioned the new gen Gold Wing - I had one with DCT and it was awesome, but I considered it a sport bike with ‘some’ room for stuff rather than a true touring bike - too small. And I had serious doubts about its reliability - too many reports of electrical gremlins and many dealers who would not or could not fix them - I sold it before it was too late. You made the right choice IMO. Best of luck with the new RT. BTW - I have the same exact Longhorns hat 👍
Joe, thanks. If you could see my UA-cam "history", you would see that I have binged a ton of Goldwing content in the past month. Sadly, it is really difficult to test ride one here in Los Angeles, which I would love to do. To my knowledge, there is not a Honda dealer in the City of Los Angeles, and those I have contacted nearby have been unwilling to let me take one out on a demo. It certainly has impressive specs, and your point about reliability is an important one. I don't see it, though, as a "sport" tourer the way I do the RT, and I don't see myself slabbing it across the US any time soon, which is where I would think the Goldwing's advantages are stacked against the RT. I will say this: those who ride them appear to be very competent riders.
