I grew up on a dairy farm in Ontario, Canada.................and I'm drooling right now!!! LOL :) What a beautiful beast of a tractor, and that big V8 diesel engine too.

Australia here. I think I'm the only farmer in my area to still be running an Inter 4586, according to the Case IH dealer. She is a 1977 model with 15,000 hours on her. But hell, nothing wrong with her and she still pulls well.

The big articulated tractors are finally becoming collectible. It’s cool to see one of these that still has the DV800 in it because it was a shitty engine and it seems like most have been converted to an 855 Cummins

@@mattlf9120 not at all, in fact I think the 903 cummins when turbocharged is a badass engine, and that 3208s can be very good engines in the right applications. The DVT-800 absolutely didn’t last in tractors! It’s much more common to find them repowered or sitting (usually having thrown a rod.) look online for the 4568,4586 and 4786 and tell me how many you see *running* with the DVT-800 vs how many are repowered. They revved too fast and running at constant RPMs in hard pulling did them in.

It was interesting to see what are probably dual wheel hub adapters on both tractors, not easy to remove the hub adapters either. The shaft driving the rear wheels didn't seem to be very stout, either.

Those V-block engines didn’t stand the test of time.
Repowered to Cummins, they were awesome.

They had insufficient air filtration in the articulated ag tractors and were run at too high an RPM. In some of the construction equipment, with bigger filters and slowed down a bit, they lasted just fine. It's sad that IH made so many bad decisions, with these and other series.

We used a 1256 IH pulling 22feet of cultivator. We ran full throttle in 1st and high. We did this for over 20 years with no engine problems. We did burn out the turbo once.

Did you run it at 2800 rpm for 20 years?

We did run an international (1256) at 2800 for 26 years. I thought it did real good.

@@eugenejulson8742 if I would have said 3500 rpm, you would have said your 1256 ran that for 40 years.

Interesting to read how much this tractor was worth in USD from $68,500 in 1981,compared to $198,400 in 2018,n how the USD has lost it buying power.
