Happy note-taking! 📝✨
Great! I've been using Obsidian for a few months now and have lots of ideas about what I want to do with it. This Vault has everything I need and I can now familiarise myself with the functions step by step. As I also work according to the PARA method, my previous notes fit in seamlessly. Thank you for sharing this great work even for free, very generous!
That's great to hear! I hope it proves useful to you. Let me know how it goes or if you have any questions. Thank you for your kind comment.
Thanks!
a great video, i will give the vault a try, thank you for sharing it.
Hope you enjoy it! Let me know how it goes. Thank you.
This looks really cool, and thanks for sharing it for free!
You are very welcome. Thank you for your kind feedback.
Exceptional video. I've been using Obsidian for several months (after I left Evernote), and have many of the pieces you talk about in place -- people notes, meeting notes, movie notes. I'm using Templater and Dataview extensively. But your approach integrates everything in a marvelous way. I'm hoping I can tweak my current vault to implement some of your excellent ideas, particularly using Lookups to keep things consistent.
Great to hear! Thank you so much - and good luck with your vault.
this is again a wonderful video! Thank you for this great video. What would be maybe interesting in a future video is, how to integrate scaned or written notes into a discrete system and workflow in obsidian :-D
Great suggestion! Already put it on my list of audience requests. Thank you.
Obrigada!
De nada. Foi um prazer. Obrigado pelo seu comentário.
Disclaimer: I don't speak Portugues and can only hope that Copilot translated this correctly. 🙂
Cool. This will defeniely order my obsidian mess. I just find a category for studies is missing.
Happy to hear that. There will always be something missing - it's just not possible to cover every potential use case. But - and that's the idea behind the Starter Vault - I think you will find most of what you need to adapt and customize it to your individual needs. E.g. it should not be hard to add a category for your studies. Add the folder and/or tags, copy and adapt the queries, and you will be fine. Good luck and thank you for your nice comment!
how did you setup the book search button? i think you used quickadd, but I am not sure how to create the command
Yes, it's a QuickAdd action.
1. Go to "settings", "QuickAdd".
2. Enter a name for the QuickAdd action and select the "Macro" type.
3. Click "Add Choice"
4. Click the "gear icon" of the new action.
5. In the dialog, click the "gear icon" again.
6. Under "Obsidian Command" look for "book search: create new book note" (bit.ly/3KYUquA) and click "Add"
7. Click out until you are on the screen with the QuickAdd actions and enable the action by clicking the "flash" icon (it needs to be yellow)
Should look like this in the end:
Book Search plugin settings: bit.ly/4cfv5Zo
QuickAdd 1: bit.ly/3XCCYnk
QuickAdd 2: bit.ly/3xmrklY
Let me know, if you need anything else.
Great idea and pretty nice execution! Just wondering about the dataview queries, just about all of them I've seen so far do a rather brutal dv.pages().filter() - which means they iterate through *all* folders/notes in the vault, just to throw most of them out again for not being in the target folder.
As far as I know dv.pages() takes an argument that narrows down the search path off the bat to a single folder. There is also a pages().where() available that also cuts down the search space - which filter() empathically doesn't do. With a language/runtime like Javascript, those iteration counts do matter. :)
That's a great catch, and you are right. I will rework them for the next version. I tested it with appr. 5000 notes - but not more than 100 folders - without a noticeable difference. But it might cause performance issues, and it's certainly cleaner that way. Thank you for letting me know! I really appreciate it.
Greetings. In your graph there is a function - incoming - outgoing links, this is not available for the pure version, how did you achieve this?
I'm not sure what you mean. Is it the list of missing notes? If so, that's described here: wiki.sascha-kasper.com/obsidian/tweaks/dv-list-missing-notes/
If not, please specify.
Hello and thank you for your work. I have a question, I'm using the older version of the starter vault. Is there a best way to migrate towards this new fantastic vault ?
Thank you for your kind words. When I created the earlier versions, I was not considering adding more modules requiring structural changes. Consequently, I did not prepare a simple migration path.
I suppose your best bet would be to manually copy your notes into the new vault.
The major difference is in the folder names and structure of th "90 Organize" folder, which of course has an impact on the queries and plugin settings (e. g. for templates and QuickAdd actions).
I understand that this is not great but don't really have a better idea.
@@leanproductivity Thankyou anyway. Work must be shared, so I'll do my part which is very little comparing to what you have provided us with. Than you again.
