    What should I be on the look-out for with Devil May Cry 4, 5 and Ninja Theory's game?

      DMC 4 is slick underrated, DMC 5 is the best in the series so far next to DMC 3 and uh the reboot DMC was fine enough lol I liked it anyways despite the fan backlash

      This is going to be a very controversial opinion, but I don't think Devil May Cry 4 and 5 are as good as DmC Devil May cry. I think that DmC Devil May Cry gets a lot more hate than it should. On the other side of that coin, I think Devil May Cry 4 and 5 get a lot more praise than they should. Although I will say that I do enjoy all the games.

      DmC does feature a literal modern-day witch who uses occult rituals to aid Dante and Nero. No idea if they're rooted in anything real, but I'm definitely interested.
      I quite liked DmC's writing in general (10 years ago when I played it), but I wish I could remember anything about that character in particular besides her mentioning squirrel s***n as a ritual ingredient.

      Both 4 and 5 are pretty good, imo 5 is my favorite because it's very rewarding to fans of the series and has my favorite combat in the series. 4 is also good too, and there are lots of gameplay elements that will be used in 5. However 4 has lots more shortcomings compared to 3 and 5, but despite them it's still pretty good. Dmc I'm less familiar with, but from what I gather it's trying to be edgy but it comes off as goofy. Some people still say it is good though, especially ever since 5 came out and softened peoples perspective on it.

    The Japanese really do draw inspiration from the same sources for world building and symbolism. As a kid I got curious about why a lot of things feel familiar between different games and it's always about alchemical concepts, the 72 demons of Solomon, the book of genesis, gnosticism etc. The Temenigru tower in DMC3 for example is definitely inspired by the Tower of Babel which if you turn upside down looks like Dante's Inferno (9 circles of hell).

      If you like this genere, can warmly recommend to look into stuff like Soulstice, Magenta Horizon, Darksiders (mainly 1 and 2), The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile and the upcoming Genokids and Immortal: And the Death that Follows.

    • @Dev_Astral
      @Dev_Astral Місяць тому +5

      @@jurtheorc8117 Darksiders 1 is a lot more like Zelda than DMC though. Fantastic game but the combat system isn’t the deepest or anything. The 2nd one goes much further in that sense imo
      That being said Darksiders is worth checking out even just for the setting and story imo. It’s pretty special

    • @jurtheorc8117
      @jurtheorc8117 Місяць тому +2

      @@Dev_Astral Very true, the combat is a big pillar of the series, but so is that exploration and puzzles.
      Fortunately, the combat is solid as is. I second what you say.
      For me, Darksiders 1 and 2 were my entryway into the genre as a whole. I've been getting an appetite for more demanding/technical games, like aforementioned Magenta Horizon, Soulstice and Immortal: And the Death that Follows, but i always want to enjoy Darksiders on its own merits. For combat, exploration and its entire world and universe.

      *Earns my respect* 🤝
      Funny, that you left out _Darksiders 3_ & _Genesis._ While _Genesis_ understandably has the most divisive gameplay of the four games, at least the combat remains many of the recurring elements of the series. _Darksiders 3_ on the other hand, went too far into the SoulsBourne route.
      Like another commenter once said:
      _"In SoulsBourne games you're a Nobody, so it makes sense being completely overpowered by regular enemies, but _*_Fury_*_ is damn _*_Horseman of the Apocalypse_*_ and at _*_full power_*_ nonetheless! _*_A single Horseman_*_ can face against the armies of Heaven or Hell on their own _*_by Lore._*_ So the SoulsBourne design style in a _Darksiders_ game is hella out-of-place!"_

    • @jurtheorc8117
      @jurtheorc8117 Місяць тому +1

      @@solracstormhunter3023 The Torchbearer, Shaper and Judge are with us this day to bring fans of Soulstice together! :D
      I get your point on Darksiders Genesis, it does feel more in line with Darksiders 1 and 2, especially compared to 3. The Creature Core system was interesting, i like the overloading of health pots, the reworked Weapon Enhancements, the enemies are a big and solid selection and the spells build up quick.
      There's a lot to love, not just for gameplay but dialogue too!
      Even still, for games "Like DMC", at the time of writing that message... i think I considered Genesis a bit too different to mention. As a Darksiders prequel I had a lot of fun with it, not just for the combat but for the writing, puzzles and music too. (Gareth Coker did great work).
      But not mentioning it, is not active rejection.
      As it stands, all the Darksiders games are fine, even if there's stuff about 3 that feels off in the writing department. For that, I wouldn't mind a retry with 3.
      (I do feel like the scenes with Lust are one of the highest points in the series, though)
      I'll always hold onto my love for the series, and hope for proper continuations and eventual conclusion for the tale of the Four.
      Same with the tale of the Chimaeras and the Solstice of Souls.

    Ehy man another thing. The divine god statue of time and space is from ancient mitraic forbidden religion, is leontochepalus.
    I suspect that it will be an enemy or even a more sentient ally in next devil may cry. In devil may cry 5 the statue looks more "sentient" than usual and in dmc 1 when you touch the statue you can read that the statue speaks to you and is a GOD.

      @noctsickversusTOBETOLD Місяць тому +1

      @Aerosmith1999-j6h in devil may cry verse it's no where stated that hell and earth were once the same thing. It's stated in the very first dmc ( in the manual as far as I recall) that when mundus was born it was a snowy night in the human world. So when mundus was born the two worlds were already 2 different worlds and that was far before dante's and vergil birth. Sparda first defeated mundus. Then argosax. Then became the feudal lord of fortuna and in the end he sealed temen ni gru, after that he leaved shortly with eva. And to this day we don't know if dante maybe founded sparda in hell in dmc 2.

      @noctsickversusTOBETOLD Retconned through other material.
      It's stated in Dmc3 prequel comics that Mundus AND Argosax killed the god that split Hell and Earth. Then Argosax and Mundus went to war with each other. No clear winners, just a split down the middle of Hell. Mundus on one side with his armies, Argosax the other, with his armies.
      Other than the baseline stuff, nothing else really makes it in.

    I think I'm the only one to ever say this. Please don't beat me after this. So I was watching the Harry Potter iceberg of plot holes on UA-cam one day, & came to the part where it was discussed about obstacles for the Philosopher's Stone, and slowly I started noticing something weirdly familiar I never noticed whenever I watched the first movie... I've made some "calculations" ...
    Did I just open the pandora box???
    Fluffy - Cerberus
    Devil's Snare - Leviathan
    Winged Keys - Nevan or those red birds
    Chessboard Chamber - Damned Chessboard
    Mountain Troll - Agny or Rudra
    Potion riddle - Gravestones
    Mirror of Erised - Nirvana of Illusions
    Hogwarts - Timenigru
    Voldemort/Quirrel - Arkham/Jester
    Philosopher Stone - Dante's & Vergil's Amulet as one
    Why does this match in one way or another ? 😭 Even the pics I saw in Wikipedia about HP, many of them coincide with what I noticed in dmc3 😭😭😭😭 Harry May Cry 😭😭😭

    I remember when I first played DMC1 and DMC2 and then DMC3 when I was little. Back then those games were a _'Mystery'_ to me.
    I knew back then it had a 'hidden message' / 'meaning' behind everything a player could see and collect but I couldn't comprehend that until now in my late 28. When I first played them, I played these games with some fear. I can't explain why but it had that 'something off' with these games.
    But If I have to choose which one was the most 'weird' out of the three, then I would say DM2. That was a weird sequel-mega weird. DMC1 had that religious tone to it; it was dark and brutal. I was scared when I first played it. DM2... I can't explain. It felt like a game that took an alternative route and didn't align with other games.
    But thank you for reviewing the DMC franchise. 🙏
    P.s. I'm reading a book called _"Book of Wisdom"_ all the mentioned symbolism in this video and games align perfectly one to one of what I'm reading. It's actually insane of how deep all of this is!

    So awesome to see you covering Devil May Cry. When first watching your vidoes about alchemical references, I always thought about the philosopher's stone segment of DMC1. Really excited to see you cover the other games as well. Think DMC4 has potential in the ideas of becoming an angel or god, and similarly DMCV with eating the Qlippoth fruit to become stronger, separating/combining your human and demon sides, as well as some of the enemy designs. Can't believe you're covering Devil May Cry right after Lost Kingdoms, really putting the spotlight on some of my favorite series I grew up with. Keep up the great work.

    One of the many things I love about DMC, as a franchise, is that I play it and I'm Wahoo Pizza Man. I know the story is very well put together and they build these compelling and meaningful moments and I pontificate on the story for some time. However I have then seen so many videos explaining complex or lost story telling concepts, or metaphysical and philosophical ideals through the games. They clearly aren't forcing it either, it's obviously and deliberately referenced and done so wonderfully. It's so rare to have a franchise that is meant for so many different levels of enjoyment

    You mention at the start of the video that there will be spoilers for DMC 1-3 (which I'm sure most people will come in expecting, but it's still worth saying just in case!), but then also include spoilers for other games that people would have no reason to expect.
    That aside, really interesting video :D

    I find this subtle mysticism a lot in Mecha, too. You know how many Mecha have an Emerald 3rd Eye? Just pay attention to that if you watch some. You'll be shocked how many do. Some mecha, like Knight of Gold, double up on it and both the robot AND the pilot have emerald 3rd eyes.
    EDIT: Now that I think about it, it's kinda like that line from Mazinger Z. With this machine you can become either a God or a Devil. It's up to you what you do with it, Anointed One.

    Great to see a deeper look at the occult elements of my favorite series! Would love to see a part 2. The reboot has issues and I hate the characters but I will say it’s probably the best playing western character action game, if not now definitely when it came out. It’s also got some of my favorite levels in any game.

    I love the Devil May Cry series... for the most part. Not all the games are great, but I personally feel like there's always something to enjoy in each of the games. This may be controversial, but this is my personal ranking for the series.
    5. Devil May Cry 4.
    4. Devil May Cry 5.
    3. Devil May Cry 2.
    2. Devil May Cry 3 and DmC Devil May Cry
    Definitive Edition are tied.
    1. Devil May Cry 1.

    • @dio2076
      @dio2076 Місяць тому +1

      Devil May Cry 2? Better than 4 and 5?????
      Did you even play 2?
      Also I hope you know that DMC DMC never had lock on and the blue and red enemies messed up the flow of combat.
      So if you played the "Definitive Edition" it doesn't count, because that came out much later and RE ADDED old mechanics from the older games (like lock on) and changed how enemies work to make the gameplay better than it used to be.
      Just a heads up.
      Might wanna distinguish between definitive edition and the original release.

    • @Brandon_Powell
      @Brandon_Powell Місяць тому +1

      @dio2076 I didn't say that Devil May Cry 2 is better than Devil May Cry 4 and 5. I said I liked it more. Although I do think Devil May Cry 4 and 5 are flawed games, I would never be so bold as to claim that they are more flawed than Devil May Cry 2. This was just a personal ranking.

    • @Brandon_Powell
      @Brandon_Powell Місяць тому

      @dio2076 I was always a fan of DmC Devil May Cry since the beginning, but I am aware that the Definitive Edition improves the game. That's a good point about distinguishing it, though. It hadn't occurred to me because I always just assume people will go for the Definitive Edition as the default.

    • @BuryTheLight-tds
      @BuryTheLight-tds Місяць тому

      @@Brandon_PowellYou gotta admit people like myself are bound to find your take to be outrageous, especially after calling DMC 4 and 5 more flawed than DMC 2.

    • @Brandon_Powell
      @Brandon_Powell Місяць тому

      @BuryTheLight-tds Well firstly I want to point out that I didn't call Devil May Cry 4 and 5 more flawed than Devil May Cry 2. I'll reiterate that even though I believe that Devil May Cry 4 and 5 are very flawed games, I don't think they are more flawed than Devil May Cry 2. This was just a personal ranking.
      And I'd also like to point out that, of course I see why people have a hard time getting their heads around my perspective. Especially considering I didn't elaborate on it. Unfortunately, I won't be doing that right now because I don't want to clog up his comment section with spoilers for the series before he's gotten a chance to cover the other games himself. I'm sorry about the confusion, but that's the way it has to be for now.

      If it's what I think it is and you mean the reboot than yeah umm I loved that more than Devil May Cry 2 as much as that's been glazed recently, call me crazy but it's not that really bad when you just take it away from not being a "DMC Game" as a whole as many others have always told me and yeah it worked out pretty well kind of for me personally but that one meme liners still hits me every time now... *Not In A Million Years!* I wish that were true but if that were so we wouldn't have gotten this perfect disaster piece of a game 😌😎👌 no really though, I can't say much good or bad about both games DMC2 & the reboot but for one I know that the reboot has some pretty hard slapping tunes in game if you're into that type of stuff and sounds.

      The art director of DMC2/3, Daigo Ikeno, is a big mythology and occultism buff.
      Another thing, and most people don't know this, but back in the PS2 days, Capcom mentioned having extensive knowledge of literature and folklore as a plus in job applications. They don't do this anymore, but they most likely hired quite a few people who were well-read beyond just their fields.

    I dont know how much this is like related to your video but
    The nightmare boss was created by mundus and he is deeply related to the alchemical symbols on those things you hit, i feel like that could imply mundus used alchemy to create him and Trish
    In devil may cry 2 there's the tris magias boss, which roughly translates into three magics in english, but i feel like it could also maybe have been meant to be something more like three mages, which would make sense in the context of the three heads and could possibly be a reference to christianism(?), though i think it could be three magics and referencing the process of creating the philosophers stone like you mentioned(though i always thought that the head you refer to as being black was blue so idk)

    The island in the first game is a real historical place to an extent. It's based off of an island that was separated from part of England and enduring. One of the was happening in the region. They couldn't get any food or crops. So everyone starved to death and people started cannibalizing each other.
