It’s not even necessarily objectively bad, but it’s just so completely ill-suited to Levy’s generally aggressive, tactical playstyle that I can totally see why he doesn’t like it.

i actually play the cow often in my 3 min games. Since im really terrible at chess it helps me to not blunder in the opening, since its pretty defensive and my mid to lategame is pretty solid ^^
I find the key idea of the Cow is it makes it hard to develop the bishops without trading them and then you often have a bishop pair. But I have been absolutely crushing with this opening.
I used a modified cow opening to first draw & then next game beat a friend of mine who is ~2100 strong; He has kick my butt at least 12-15 times. I have/had a provisional rating of 1250; have not competed in a decade or more. I play many games out of Chess Life (life member) & have read/played the games in many chess books for many years. Yes, I think her father should have played the cow in a contest before she released the first video about it. It might have worked then, because of the surprise factor. Now everyone knows it, it’s too late. She created her own downfall of the cow.

Sad story behind the Cow: I showed it to my dad - which is a chess crack. And he meant: "Looks somewhat familiar... He got out his Chessbooks and we looked through them together (I didnt unterstand a thing of the systematic but hey - my Dad is the Chess genius in the family. Not me) and finally he found it: Its propagated in "The Defense Game" from 2002. But my dad thinks its even older. It was only the first book he found it in. Nevertheless: He found it as an easy to learn Opening and overall I had a very nice evening together with my dad while we waltzed books. Something we rarely do and should do more often.

If I get time advantage then it's all about keeping a fast and solid defense, and not blundering free pieces, while searching good attacking points. If time is similar, then i try to be agresive at middle or endgame, but usually positions are not much unbalanced at these ratings if it hasn't been a major blunder, and I use to struggle a bit at later stages, but not because of the cow itself

I've been reading the comments under this and some other Anna's vids and it appears that her laughter makes a whole lot of other people laugh.
