Ever wonder what goes on behind the closed doors of your next door neighbour? Those innocent creatures by day may just prove to be naughty nasties by night... or worse - they could turn out to be the notorious Klopeks!
Take a wicked trip to the dark side with director Joe Dante (Gremlins, The Howling) as he explores the twisted secrets of American suburbia in the outrageous cult comedy The 'Burbs.
Ray Peterson (Academy Award® winner Tom Hanks, Forrest Gump, Castaway) is currently a man of leisure. But his is not the holiday away from home that normal folk take - no far off lands, tropical islands or caravan parks. To the disappointment of wife Carol (Carrie Fisher, Star Wars Episodes IV-VI), Ray decides to spend a relaxing week at home in his slippers and dressing gown, but soon finds himself embroiled in a suburban conspiracy of the most bizarre order. Teaming up with nosy neighbour Art (Ric Ducommun, Groundhog Day), old-school ex-soldier Mark (Academy Award® nominee Bruce Dern, Nebraska) and laid-back teenager Ricky (Corey Feldman, The Goonies), Ray becomes the unlikely leader of a clandestine operation to investigate the background of their mysterious new neighbours the Klopeks.
Convinced there is more to the Klopeks than meets the eye - Ray and his band of bumbling brothers manage to turn the otherwise quiet cul de sac upside-down in the process - watch out pizza dude, there goes the neighbourhood!
So glad they decided to use the ending they did in the film - the reveal of Dr Klopek as a killer really didn't work as well here, and we missed Bruce Dern's classic "Hey Pinocchio! Where are you goin'?" line
Agree, I totally get the meaning of these alternative twists m but can understand more why they were cut.
I'm obsessed with this film. Have been since I was a kid
Same here.
it’s one of the best flicks of all time!?
Yep, me too.
I used to watch this and Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure repeatedly when I was in high school (reason being I had them both on the same VHS tape!) I have them in DVD now, and still like to watch this movie every so often. I still think it's a hilarious movie. Bruce Dern steals the show, IMHO.
I love this movie too. I used to make my mom rent it all the time. I can’t find it anywhere
RIP Carrie Fisher (Carol), Rick Ducommunn (Art), Brother Theodore ( Uncle Rueben), and Henry Gibson (Dr. Werner Klopek).
A dann good film, I watch it all the time on Amazon prime, they should put what about bob on Amazon prime too it was hilarious
Peaceful Nights What about Bob is on there now.
Don't forget about Walter too
Baby steps
The curse of The Burbs!!
Glad they went with the other ending
Lowebrau you son of a bitch!
100%, satanism stereotypes didnt age well. Suuuppper "that metal music is of the devil vibes"
I agree
same.
@@claudeyaz satanism sterotypes didnt age well 😂
The Mr Rogers music over the end is the one thing I wish they'd kept.... it perfectly sums up the black comedy of the movie
Absolutely. Other than this ending just didn't work.
And the comment that “nobody ever said anything in LA” lol
I agree.. ironically Hanks went on to playing Mr Rogers
They do play it in the middle of the movie when he wakes up from his nightmare though.
I miss the part Rumsfield and his wife tell Art your house is on fire and your wife is home. He doesn't care about his house being on fire and is more upset his wife is home.
one of my fav lines
"Yo Rumsfield!!!"
*Falls off the roof, shot goes off, hits the car's window*
😂😂😂
The pizza dudes here!
That's the funniest part of the movie actually always cracks me up😂
@@RufiorufioRuFiooO1982xxx Ikr 🤣🤣
@@RufiorufioRuFiooO1982xxxI totally agree and just got done watching it and always laugh out at that scene 👍👍 Great Classic comedy
@@RufiorufioRuFiooO1982xxx I think the funniest part is when they're screaming at the bone in the back yard lolol
I can’t believe this movie is 30 years old now this is definitely one of my favorite movies are used to watch this all the time when I was a kid
Same here.
You have good taste! One of the first movies I saw in a theater as a kid. Still makes me laugh at 42 :)
Yo aún la sigo viendo varias veces cada año
i like the original ending, but it's awesome that we can see the alternate ending thanks for uploading this.
RIP actors Brother Theodore /ruben klopeck, And and Wife Carry Fisher.
Zinum Zen Henry Gibson, Dick Miller, Rick Ducommun and Rance Howard as well
So clearly I agree with everyone else that the original ending was much better. But I have to say, that first 20 seconds of dialogue between Hans and the detective in this is hilarious.
Why do I have a huge crush on Hans Klopek?
@@emilydawson2553 No idea! 😬
Why do I have such a crush on Mrs. Rumsfield? 🤭
@@georgehenderson7783 cause both are hot and attractive.
Also I liked how Rumsfield declined Art's offer to go out for beers and then carried Mrs. Rumsfield into their house.
@@georgehenderson7783 That was hilarious and the way she told him to get in the house.
This really wasn't so bad. It had another side which in the normal plot you didn't get to see. I do however agree that the original was more exciting, this seems like a good ending for a novel and not a film. I'm glad they released this clip nontheless.
It came with the frame
" eet came with frame"? My sister and i quote this all the time
Tcame witDa frame???
Got someone tiiied up in the ole celler do ya rube?🤣🤣🤣
They're go the god damn brownies.
Me and my sis always do the accents when we quote lines from it.😄
Ric Ducommun reminds me so much of Dan Aykroyd. Why wasn't he a bigger star?
Because we already had a Dan Aykroyd
The original ending where Bruce Dern tackles Pinocchio can't be replaced.
You mean Hans Klopek.
@@emilydawson2553 Him too!
@@St.Maurice I knew it.
I love to watch this movie every year around Halloween.
I used to watch this while doing homework at the University of Nebraska.
Yo igual 😂
Rumsfield: “Hey Hans, send me a license plate!”
Yeah, THAT line they should’ve kept in the movie! 😂😂😂
Everyone has a friend like Art 😂
RIP Carrie Fisher you played the perfect wife in this flick loved star wars and drop dead fred
30 years later Tom Hanks is playing Mr Rogers.
To add a little fun fact about that....his son, (Collin Hanks) has played a Mr. Roger's role. Only not for a movie. He played him in the show "Drunk History" on Comedy Central.
@Vegan Higler Indeed it has.
I don't think that Mr Rogers fled to Greece to get away from "accusations" though
the scene where Art chants "Satan is good, Satan is our pal" is ironic now haha tommy loves his pizza
I like how the Klopeks have more lines
They're the best characters in the entire film.
You saw one of my skulls didn't you?
The Roo A little high on the tension scale there rube.
Zinum Zen gold but i think he says you got a 9 on the tension scale
The Roo oh yeah it was huh
oh yes...... i know you did.... he belonged to a neighbor of your's.... his name was knapp.
hey Rick get this Lame-O out your yard….hey get out of my yard Lame-O hey….classic
I have never seen this ending before. It’s less dramatic. I can see why they went with the other ending.
The ending to the theatrical version is much better.
The jokes in this alternate ending fall flat.
There's no music playing, so it'll feel empty
I disagree, the part where he says "oh! There goes the weirdo!" had me laughing
"Take me to the hospital I'm sick!"
"I've been blown up".
😂 love it. Makes me roar every time I watch it
They did the right thing. This isnt half as good as the original. Heard there's another alternative ending where Ray is killed, which hasnt been released yet.
In the script The ambulance disappear with Tom Hanks inside, you don't know if he dies or not but , mostly yes, this ending wasn't filmed.
Once they cast Tom Hanks they changed the script and never filmed it as they didn't think an audience would want to see Tom Hanks die.
If Tom hank's character Ray was killed, I think in the sequel it would have had Bruce Dern's character Rumsfield hunt down the klopeks.
My mind flashed to that for a moment when it cut away from Klopek about to inject Ray. In another universe that could have been a fantastic ending but I love the original.
@@anarchistatheist1917 I'd watch it. Bruce Dern was great in this.
Watched this aged 12 at the cinema - what a day!
This version isn't bad, but I'm glad they went with the one they did. This one looks way more like a rough draft.
Hey Hans! Send me a license plate! Like others I prefer what they went with though this line cracked me up.
Elements of this ending are definitely better, though it drags on a bit. They should have kept the scene with the klopeks confessing after they were caught but kept the ambulance driving scene. It would have kept the tension but still gave some answers and a bit more humor at the end. I also liked Rumsfield going indoors with his wife and Art being left alone at the end after all his trouble making, though his wife coming home was also good.
i could not agree more if i was to write a comment it would be this happy to have seen both now cheers
"My wife is home?!!?" Classic Art.
Oh my god I laughed so hard when Dr. Klopek said “Oh! There’s goes the weirdo!”
I had no idea they had an alternate ending, IMO the original ending was better because, "Art! Your wife is home, and your house is on fire!" "MY WIFE IS HOME?!" 😂😂🤣
one of the best lines of the movie
Weird seeing a different ending. Not cos it's terrible but just cos it's like a new take on a classic.
The needle threat was not enough of a climax.
The line "you dont have any evidence at all!" ...then opening the trunk and seeing the skeletons... that's enough. 😆
We do now
the director said another idea they had being in the trunk instead of skulls and bones was to have the two garbage men from the earlier scene when they were digging through the trash
The Pizza Dude is coming!
I still say this when we order pizza. 😄
“Is this your vehicle Mr. Klopik?”
Dr 👌
He can't fight off that little old man?
Believe it or not, in the original script, Ray was gonna be killed by Dr. Klopek, but Joe Dante and the producers decided audiences wouldn't react nicely to Tom being killed on-screen, so the ending was changed.
Hey! Pinnochio! Where are you goin'!?
A bit of the old debriefing pal! Lol
Just read an interview with director Joe Dante in the book 'Shock Xpress 1' - he says there was a third ending shot too, one where the Tom Hanks character dies and the Klopeks turn out to be completely innocent.
MrSteviedan sounds good, but maybe changes the movie tome entirely
gary abbot You didn’t get the tone, it’s apparent this film was critique to US suburbia and it’s white Christian only way of life. But that ending was t much for you to take it. But it’s the only reasonable ending there could be.
@@pablovi77 Yeah it's kinda icky that the movie validates the lead characters' xenophobia, but that ending would've been a buzzkill for American audiences, especially for a comedy starring Tom Hanks.
@@exiles_dot_tv Validates his xenophobia? That's a helluva negative way of viewing it, but not entirely untrue I suppose. But remember, the movie plays off of classic horror tropes of people doing odd things at night that you can't quite make out, and everything about the villains being *just so slightly off* and you can never quite figure it out till the end. Not to mention it's entire underlying aesthetic of a buncha of bored suburbanites having nothing better to do than spying on their neighbors.
Now, it's not a deep or particularly creative ending to the story with the Klopeks turning out to be evil, admittedly, but it's important to remember that you'd have to go back and change other things to make a "The Klopeks were innocent" ending work as a satisfying conclusion - perhaps show that they're an underprivileged family that had recently gotten a stroke of luck and managed to move to comfy suburbia. It's not so simple as taking a different cut of the ending - it'd span throughout the film to make it good.
Either way, to boil it down to xenophobia validation is just so utterly pessimistic and I feel misses no small part of the purpose of the film.
Yea thats true, I read about it yesterday. The klopeks were not found guilty, Turns out ray dies and hans was forced for the job.
Apparently hans was kidnapped by werner and rueben. Theres an example of hans’ force.
Here in this ending he said “Its true and in la no one said anything” He sucked up to the truth and betrayed his so called “uncles”
I've seen this movie too many times to remember. Love it. Still just as funny as the first time. 😂😂😂
This scene wasn't in the movie ...so I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say "still just as funny as first time".
This is 1 of my favorite movies, but this ending would have really messed up the movie! So glad that they chose the other ones
I don't understand. It was parked outside......ALL DAY!
I base my life around this movie...I am art
This ending gave the opportunity for more lines to the kolpecks
I loved the Klopeks.
I wish they'd have kept some of the shots from this one tho. But this definitely was right not to be used as the ending.
Gotta feel for 'Tuna Neck'. He's wants to party but nobody wants to join him.
I never understood why the Klopeks did what they did in the film. Why are they killing people? Why did they kill the couple (The Naps) for their house? What was the motivation? Its never explained in the film. Here you get your answers. They killed the Naps because they wanted their house. Why? So they acn live in anonymity and privacy in suburbia and commit their acts without anyone being the wiser. The joke of course is that thanks to snoopy neighbors like Art, the suburbs aren't as private and anonymous as you might think. Every neighborhood has an Art. People that talk behind your backs and are overtly suspicious of you. Something you don't really get in a big city where you tend to be ignored and have less focus put on you by others.
It also explains that they are indeed Satan worshipers hence the killing (human sacrifices). Art was right after all.
You know how old people are. They get so attached to things.
They should have moved to a farm house. Then they wouldn't have been bothered. Ala Ed Gein.
I didn't know about this until today. I've been a fan of this movie since I saw it in the theater when I was 9, I had it on VHS, DVD and now Blu Ray but my girlfriend had never seen it so I was showing it to her for the first time. She hasn't seen a LOT of classic 80s/90s movies so I've had to do this a lot. Anyway it was over and I was about to get up and go shut off the Blu Ray player and over the credits and little menu option pops down that I'd never noticed before, I don't think it ever has before, that says Alternate Ending. Needless to say I was shocked, I didn't like it as much as the original but it wasn't terrible. Going in I thought it was probably going to be a darker ending that was rejected by the studio and test audiences, that Klopek would kill Ray or something. I'm glad it wasn't that.
Yeah the ending that made the official cut is way better, but I do like the scene were Dr. Kopek explains "I came as you did! For the quiet! For the Privacy! The convenient shopping!," and then Hans goes "It's true, nobody in LA ever said anything" lmao
I like this ending better. The character development is so much more . Surely not as simple or funny but better.
This seems like the original ending and the one we saw was a better reshoot
I’m glad they kept the original ending, love the ending scene as Corey throws the pizza and we see all the chaos in the street all while we hear the awesome square one song as the camera zooms out.
Best movie ever.
Funny but thank god they used the other ending.
The actual ending is way better. Iconic movie.
Art... your house is on fire. And your wife's home.
MY WIFE IS HOME!?!?
I can see why they scrapped this one, kinda weak but does shed some light on the Klopek's motives.
I've watched this movie a bunch of times and didn't even know this existed. Cool.
Hans Christian Anderson 😂😂😂
This ending has some really good lines in it!
God, I love this street!
"Sometimes I... get a little carried away."
That is a terrible ending. Good thing they chose the good one.
deletes scenes are deleted for some good reason.
Veria Lamour you son of a bitch!
Almost seems like they were just goofing around with this scene
I love Art’s reaction to his wife being home 😂
The 80s had some of the greatest movies, I wish Hollywood would bring back 80s style movies and quit with all this green screen, CGI bs and just make movies the OG way.
So glad they went with the ending that they went with. This one just seems I don’t know, like I can’t put my finger on it, but seems all over the place.
Good lord that ending didn’t know where it was going at all
Good god I love Hans lol
Sardine?
You're kidding?! 😂
I love Hans Klopek and I don't know why.
I just saw this ending, although I liked the other a little more. The character dr klopek seems sinister to me, he has the style of the Monster, particularly the grandfather because of his gestures and movements. At least, that's the way I see it.
Thanks for sharing, love this movie 😊Bruce you are a Marine not a soldier 😊
I thought he was a retired soldier.
I like the alternate ending🤣🤣🤣🤣
Hans Christian Anderson!
The scene where their being arrested I would keep in, but the rest keep to original ending as I love when ray and the doctor are fighting
“Perhaps i will take yours, Hans”
Ok, we need a remake of this. But keep it true to the original.
I've seen this movie 30 times at least. Had no idea there was an alternative ending. The original is much better.
This one is ok, but I like the other ending much better. LOL
LOL!
Did my favorite part of the whole movie is when he says “ whoa, the pizza dude”
Wow this is terrible. They made the right call.
I still like the original ending by far the best.. however.. Rumsfield's line "a bit of the old debriefing pal".. lol. That one was clever, and keeping in character with Rumsfields military way. 😄
It actually made me laugh.
never seen this before thanks
Wait i saw this on tv? What's the original ending?
Like both endings. Think they used the right one.
wow. who the f did the closed captioning??? brutal!!! utterly brutal!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thank God they went the other way with this.
Near the end, there is a brief piece of the theme from Walking Distance .(TZ)
Opulent acting!
Jesus that pizza Corey is gnawing on at the end.
Now imagine this with Murray & Aykroyd as Ray & Art...
Aykroyd, yes, but Murray no. He's not enough of a likeable family guy.
I think this film got quite mixed reviews on its original release, and did mediocre at the box office. It’s only really now that it gets the appreciation for its satire on subrubia.
It was on the Horror Channel recently in the U.K. and fully uncut(The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre clips were shown, when Ray is watching the TV).
WOW I DID NOT SEE THIS BEFORE
The white guy who arrested one of the koepecks, was Ron Howard's, dad. I'm almost positive. 🤔
rip carrie fisher
"It's true in LA no one said anything" 🤣🤣🤣
Yes the other ending is much better
HEY ART, YOUR WIFE IS HOME!!
AND YOUR HOUSE IS ON FIRE!!
I LOVE THIS MOVIE
Huh. It's interesting to see. I don't remember the exact ending anymore. Been 20yrs since I've seen it but yeah the skulls in the trunk ...
