Bout a 9 on the tension scale there, Rube...
😂😂
It’s a true masterpiece! One of my all time favorites- i have watched it hundreds of times
Amazing film!!! The characters, the music, just perfect.
The burbs is my favorite movie all time. Love love this movie such a classic
Whoever wrote that review is a human humour vacuum The burbs is one of the funniest and best movies ever
I love The 'Burbs. I must've seen it a million times as a kid and it's aged like fine wine. I was shocked to find it has a cult following, because it always felt like a forgotten relic. So glad it's getting the love and respect it deserves.
It’s the characters. Every role perfectly cast and played. They are real people, with individual quirks and weirdnesses. They are endearing and funny.
The Burbs turned 35 yesterday - Best Film Ever.
The direction in this movie is so great. Soooo many people love this movie. I hope he really does get it how much we love it.
Critics are idiots! One of the greatest movies of all time! Thank you Joe! I now watch it every year around Halloween.
One of my all time favorites, and the soundtrack just as good. Ricky Butler says there nocturnal feeders!
The good bad ugly closeup on the dogs eyes is one of the funniest things to appear on film, all time classic movie
The characters are so great, and each actor does such a good job.
An absolute masterpiece. A rare movie that's perfect in every way. Dante's finest work.
One of my favorite movies. Classic and totally underrated comedy.
"Art's got a gun!"
Joe Dante made fun films.
Everyone i know has sadly never seen or even heard of this movie.
Meanwhile I'm on my 300 rewatch 😅
This guy is a genius his movies feel unique.
How I wish they had made a Burbs 2. A Totally Cracking Movie Indeed. Our typical 80s/90s Neighbourhood based.
The Burbs! Another Joe Dante film
Love the 'Burbs, the characters, the zoom in on the dog. If I remember correctly, Ebert didn't like Planes, Trains and Automobiles at first either and A Christmas Story took time to be loved as well.
I often wonder if Ebert just got tired of being a movie critic trying to keep up with all those movies. Surely he had other more productive things he wanted to get done with his time, but instead had to watch a movie. That probably led to a feeling of great disappointment if he felt the movie wasn't equal to other things he had on his mind at the time.
@NoName-fx9zi As a critic myself, and a guy who knows lots of other critics, I can tell you this is not the case. We go into every movie hopeful, and mostly excited.
I love the burbs!
The Burbs is a great movie
I was suprised that The 'Burbs was kind of panned by critics at the time. I was a kid and my friends and I were obsessed with it and my brother and I quote it constantly. Maybe it was a bit ahead of its time, because the bad critical reviews at the time really missed the mark
Easily one greatest 80's films of all time. Up there with some of the best. Top 50 for sure.!
It's one of my favorites
When I listen to What’s He Building? by Tom Waits it always reminds me of this movie.
Nobody knows the name of the NYT critic......and everyone from this era loves The Burbs.
The burbs is my favorate movie I have seen 100s of times and a movie I like to have on in the backround when I doing stuff around the house.
It's impossible for me to understand how the reviews were so bad. This is my favorite comedy of all time. I've seen it so many times and know it beat for beat but it still makes me laugh.
I love Dante realizes how much The Burbs is beloved. I still don’t like it as much as Big Hanks’ previous film but I would rank it for sure as his second best comedy after. If you haven’t seen it don’t think just watch. Great little movie.
One of a kind and know body knows about it.
One of the best of the decade. A decade filled with what today are called cult classics.
This movie is fantastic. I tell everybody about the burbs
My family watched the Burbs VHS on repeat.
i disagree Joe i love this fucking Movie
Family favorite ❤ knock out hilarious.
I still remember vividly in 1989 I was 8 and I was telling my best friend about this new rad movie I just saw as my mom was driving us to school. I was telling him it was about this weird family in this old house in a normal neighborhood and everyone's all freaked out about how they never come out of their house. He asked me what the family's name was and I just could not remember. The whole day at school I kept trying to remember the name Klopek but it just never came to me. I remember that all like it was yesterday.
My favorite Joe DANTE FILM IS "MATINÉE, THE BOOM ONE THAT TAKES PLACE IN FLORIDA DURING THE CUBAN MISSILE CRISIS.
I still love this movie. I'm glad to hear that it's become a cult classic.
“….naked ladies….”
Tha cast is probably some of tha best actors princess Leia mouth from the goonies Bruce Dern , Mr Butterman from goonies , the PE TEACHER FROM WONDER YEARS NEED I SAY MORE
As a kid, I saw it in the theaters and appreciated that it was weird but didn't think it was very good. Tom Hanks was a blockbuster guy at this point and at that age I expected movies to strive to be blockbusters.
Same here, I was not much older. My sense of humor was not at this level yet. But rewatching it has made me find it hilarious!
He was spot on, and he probably doesn't even know about the synthwave music genre.
I have 3 favourite movies, i cant seperate them. Ghostbusters, Jaws and The 'Burbs!
Great choices. I think my inseparable 3 might be Back to the Future, The Karate Kid, and The 'Burbs!
Oh, this is a cult classic for sure
People want to be entertained. This movie doesn't take itself too serious and has original elements. Critics hate originality because they were not taught what to do with it.
Yeah man it’s top hole !!
Ricky! Get this lame-o out of your yard! He looks a lot like a young Nicky Katt, by the way.
It's a terrible movie.
Is it a masterpiece ? No.Is it going to change your life ? No.Is it a well made light hearted comedic film ? Yes.
@@brandonking2679 I disagree. I think it's fantastic and far beyond a "light hearted comedy".
This movie is a comedic masterpiece. I cannot even begin to understand how the critics hated it THAT much. I can watch The Burbs 1000 times and still laugh.
Critics only give good ratings to movies that nobody else ever wants to watch.
Since when did critics understand any comedy
Bloody oath man I watch once a year at least
It's one of my favorites now and Tom Hanks IS my favorite. But when I first saw it I didn't like it, it was too dark for me as a child. Courtney Gains scared the bejeezus out of me for some reason.
