The beginning of this episode is perhaps the most powerful part of the MH entire expose Mark's story versus historical reality - and how stunningly and blatantly divergent and how deceptive and self-serving Mark and his story are... This is perhaps the biggest life lesson as we listen to these kinds of stories from these kinds of persons...including certain politicians
This podcast points out two fundamental problems with church planting as a project: 1) It is about ensuring the survival of a denomination. Question: Why does a particular denomination deserve to survive? 2) It is about funding. "You cannot serve God and money." Sound familiar?
I'm so disturbed by hearing that all of these "men of God" so overlooked obvious character flaws of a young, arrogant man who by his behavior should have shown these guys that he wasn't ready spiritually to lead anything. But they also wanted GROWTH not JESUS. No wonder we are in the trouble we're in.
6 minutes in. “Church planting is expensive”. No it is not. We plant churches with pastors who make no money at all. There is a different way to do it. There’s just no money in it
Exactly. Starting a church simply involves going to a group of people and gathering to worship regularly. That can involve a millions-of-dollars building project or just finding a spot in a park. It can involve hotel stays or staying over as a guest in several houses. Jesus knew this when he sent out the disciples. It's a shame these modern church planters don't get that.
@America Nice display of cultic thinking completely out of touch with reality Mars Hill did the exact opposite of what you're saying and they grew phenomenally

No kidding; How cults start.
I believe the term is "cult of personality."
@Mary I agree.

Some people just need to be shown a different way. Many are unaware its even an option @@Window4503
Spanish River was my home Church in Boca Raton. Pretty wild what David did.
Some ways to attract is to conform to the world by adopting women in leadership and by becoming alphabet-friendly...

Jeez!! That first 5 minutes sounds just like Trump. No wonder they got along.
