They took out all the cars and parking then installed open sewer planter pipes along Queen St creating a slum like vacuum along the street for the ferals, thanks Chris Darby, Richard Hills , Goff and his useless council@@foreignparticle1320
Great to see this clip.. a real feeling of nostalgia has gripped me as the heart of Auckland has been ripped out and it is so depressing going in there now. Glad I don't work in the CBD any more, just a mess of bus lanes and aggro AT Nazis hitting you with fines. Nowhere for free parking where you could leave the car for a visit to a chosen venue for entertainment. I miss all the places that you could go to for music, dancing, suppers... even the White Lady and you were safe. Good to see Nathan Haines too on this clip.
I remember Auckland city in the late 80s it was vibrant and full of people and great fun on a night out ,now its just a shit hole of epic proportions in 2024 ,Ponsonby Road is 100 times better
1989 i got my 6th form certificate programs back in those days were alot better (KNIGHT RIDER) (Hill Street Blues) (THE A TEAM) (AUTO MAN) (STREET HAWK) (WONDER WOMAN) (CODE RED) (THE INCREDIBLE HULK) {ALF) (BANGKOK HILTON Starring NICOLE KIDMAN) and the list goes i really mis those days i was allways glued to the TV ond now i have all of them on compact disc but you could never beat the 80s but the only program i didn't like is (the young Doctors) (and coranation Street)
@@ElliotFlowers For me didn't have many wages so a 5$ drink at the nightclub was all I could manage (pretty sure they were five for a double even in 1989).
It's around the time they started flooding in, knowing the handover of Hong Kong was looming. I remember only one chinese kid in my class at my primary school in Epsom in '81.
a little secret - the most pretentious people in Auckland have usually often here from somewhere else, thinking it's the Big Smoke. Those of us who grew up here know better.
well I don't know about that. Yes I was there from a smaller town......but until I went to Australia and England in the early 90sI thought that you had to wear a suit to get into a nightclub.......and that's the way it was in the 80s
@@dylanadams1455 I agree hahahah! most Aucklanders are humble and grounded and live in places like Henderson, Mt Roskill or Otahuhu, its the ones that move here from smaller places in NZ thinking theyve really made it to be in the big smoke!
All power to Nathan Haines, from small beginnings onto many wonderful albums during the 90s, 00s, 10s.
I was 4 years old in 89 damn time flies.
Look at how alive and vibrant Queen St was even back then, looks like a slum now thanks useless Auckland Council
Not a truer word spoken
Totally, right? Even worse now they've killed the car traffic.

The internet killed the inner city!

These guys are all in their mid 50’s by now lmao
Whats funny? I'm 56. The eighties in Auckland will never be repeated!
try 60s
@@purefoldnz3070 Not sure, the handsome dude hosting the video is still in his fifties.

It's a mite frustrating how the band names are cut off. Anyone care to fill me in?
Hardly any Chinese anywhere except at the end. Must be a billion years ago.

‘Black music’.
that and the guy putting on the 1950s movie star voice in a kiwi accent is concerning
@@nickscott601 This is how he talked, no joke!
Today's NZ is the total opposite of what we were back then.
