I like to think that the Rock recognized a kindred spirit. That he realized that this guy had the same or similar demons driving him. I have similar ones but mine are from rejection by my mother.....I grew up damaged and went down paths I never would have..... made myself into something truly lethal, but unfortunately I could never be strong enough or skilled enough to outrun the pain of rejection and lack of a mothers love. I know many go through that and it is a sad thing. In the Drivers case it was his step father and his constant rejection and even beatings due to such rejection. Sad when a child lacks one or both parents in this life.
So this is actually the original ending as seen in test screenings, but it was cut because audiences felt it undercut the driver's change of heart following the moment where he showed the preacher mercy and then refused to fight the killer in the tent. It is a fitting end for the killer though, because he was pushing his luck relentlessly pursuing such a dangerous opponent and being totally driven to finish the job even after being called off halfway through the movie.
Another perfect example of the Mandela Effect...This was not on the original movie, or deleted scenes. This is the first time I have seen this, and I know this movie word for word.

This ending scene was not in the original, as a stand-alone it doesn't really work out too well. The Killer, in the original, disappears after the presumed killing and tells the corrupt cop to never contact him again after taking his payment, he then returns to his wife and stops being a killer. This cut implies that he had some profound knowledge that the Driver had survived, and pursued him AFTER the Driver had already reached the conclusion of his story by finally getting his revenge. You could argue it started and ended with a seemingly senseless killing, but there's a reason that scene was cut from the final movie. It doesn't go well together.
Great point. But I also see it as "you can't change a leopard's spots." A professional killer is gonna be a professional killer, no matter what he tries to convince himself of otherwise. If a professional hit man has been obsessively perfect at his job all his life, I could see him being haunted by the fact that he was bested by someone he thought was not in his league. So no matter what he promised himself and his wife, he couldn't sleep at night knowing an "amateur" bested him. So what he was at his core finally led him to his ultimate fate. It reminds me of the choice Robert DiNero made in that epic movie "Heat", as he was heading to the airport during his getaway. He just couldn't let Waingrow get away with betraying his crew. It was "the principle" of the thing...

This was an alternative ending, the theater ending is so much better as both characters live, the Killer goes back to his wife, and the Driver drives off into the Sun set and is at peace.
This ending was better. Driver was never gonna find peace, he wanted his revenge, and he got it. The alternate ending ended with him doing what he does best, drive. This was better.
This scene is from the final alternative. It is DVD. My opinion, I like more this ending. The killer died, its girlfriend prepare for revenge and police pursue him. Everybody want him died.

Noble Vigilance RS I disagree not every movie needs a sequel. For instance imo John Wick was a great stand alone revenge movie the sequels diminished it. That world just became so convoluted and nonsensical it lost all appeal. Take a second look at the scene. The Killer character wasn't actually being a killer anymore, he was focused on getting the Driver. He was so focused that it was to the exclusion of all else, first the relationship, second, his safety and third, his survival. He had won in proving he was faster or better than the Driver that bested him previously but in the end he didn't see the win because he was a "killer" and he was the "Killer." As such, in a need to finish what was started, he forgot what he was, how he had gotten there, and now was just a thug with a gun on a mission to kill. I think it was supposed to be a juxtaposition to how the audience saw the Driver character. Started as a thug with a gun to becoming more than that. A lot of layers there.
First off that was an error. You look at the scene before the slide is locked, next scene it's locked back. Also he just got into a serious vehicle accident with a head wound so...

This is one of the most underrated movies. I liked the standard ending more though. This scene is actually didn't get in the final production and is available in some DVDs I think. 6:36 - slide not locked back 6:38 - slide not locked back 6:45 - suddenly slide is locked back on an empty chamber. Two things here. 1. Poor continuity due to bad editing 2. Bad sound by the foley artist, because there is no "click" sound when you pull the trigger of a semi-auto with the slide locked back.

At around 6:35 the killer shoots, his gun chambers a new round, at 6:41 now his gun isnt chambered anymore and you can see the slid all the way back

This is one of the most underrated movies. I liked the standard ending more though. This scene is actually didn't get in the final production and is available in some DVDs I think. It's very clear that this scene is not completed in the matter of editing, visual effect, and everything ...and is different in overall theme from the actual movie.

hahahaha... car flies like 20 feet in the air and crashes and rolls several times. Older car too with far fewer safety features. The Rock would've been reduced to a pile of bloody pebbles. lol. Pulverized into salt. lol. I get that it's a movie but c'mon. He gets out with a couple of boo boos. And then drives away in the smoking wreckage of his former car. lol. Ok. lol. Kinda silly even for an action flick.

hm, some strange. i dont see this ending in movie. probably its some alternative ending. in version i saw, he killed the detective and disappear, killer also going out after scene in church then he realize that driver has hes own morality and etc.

Two things here.
1. Poor continuity due to bad editing
2. Bad sound by the foley artist, because there is no "click" sound when you pull the trigger of a semi-auto with the slide locked back.
