46:54 is when he drops the most valuable art advice I have ever heard.
This was two months ago, but I lost my place for this shit lol
1:21:31 Is honestly way more useful advice in my opinion.
huh? thought it was just mr. crab passing by... 😅
You fcking trolls lol
lmao
00:00 - (L1) Rough Drawing & (L2) Refined Drawing, sketches.
21:40 - (L0) local color, Paint one universal "base" color of sketch. Click Checkerboard to "lock" mask. Continue to add other base colors throughout the sketch. Follow form.
33:51 - (L3) Shadow 1, create first shadow layer. Set to "Multiply."
38:40 - (L -1) BG Variation & (L -2) BG, Paint a contrasting background "Base" Color (L -2). Paint a variation of detail of background. (L -1)
42:54 - (L4) Light, create first light layer. Set to "Overlay."
43:49 - Image, Rotate Canvas Horizontal to get different perspective
44:00 - (L5) Layer 1, Create 2nd Shadow Layer with "Multiply."
45:45 - (L6) Details, Shadows Create Detail Layer by grabbing local color & make slightly lighter or darker (mostly lighter), create texture by following the form with brush strokes.
51:30 - (L6) Details, Lights Create Detail Layer by grabbing local color & make slightly lighter or darker (mostly lighter), create texture by following the form with brush strokes.
54:15 - L6) Details, Shadows Create Detail Layer by grabbing local color & make slightly lighter or darker (mostly lighter), create texture by following the form with brush strokes.
1:01:05 - (L5) Layer 1, If additional shadow is needed, add to shadow layer which is set to "Multiply."
1:02:17 - (L6) Details, Shadows Create Detail Layer by grabbing local color & make slightly lighter or darker (mostly lighter), create texture by following the form with brush strokes.
1:05:50 - (L6) Details, Shadows Grab local color again.Use this layer to create variations of reflected light ( e.g. reflected "sky color" or reflected "grass color" or reflected "dirt color")
1:07:35 - (L6) Details, Lights Grab highlights of "bright fur," create texture by following form with brush strokes.
1:09:01 - (L6) Details, Shadows When doing shadows, observe "cooler" (dark blue), "warmer" (dark yellow), and mixed (dark green) colors of shadow.
1:10:30 - (L6) Details, Shadows As you are doing the brush strokes of shadow, create "negative space" by making thin strokes of shadow into the lighter areas.
1:11:00 - (L6) Details, Shadows The shadows look very light up against dark values. "Learning your values is important, because they really react to what they are laid against."
1:13:00 - (L6) Details, Shadows When doing shadows, observe "cooler" (dark blue), "warmer" (dark yellow), and mixed (dark green) colors of shadow.
1:15:39 - (L6) Details, Detailed Texture Dark Shadows Zoom into the part of the painting that is the center of attention. You can actually "draw the fur" in these areas.
1:18:50 - (L6) Details, Detailed Texture Light Shadows Zoom into the part of the painting that is the center of attention. You can actually "draw the fur" in these areas.
1:21:00 - (L6) Details, Detailed Texture Halftones Zoom into the part of the painting that is the center of attention. You can actually "draw the fur" in these areas.
1:21:26 - (L5) Layer 1, Define negative space, darker fur and deeper shadows.
1:22:57 - (L6) Details, Detailed Texture Halftones, Highlights and Shadows, Observe how to "catch light" into the texture.
1:37:42 - (L1) Rough Drawing & (L2) Refined Drawing, Erase some of the dark pencillines that you don't want to see in the image.
1:38:37 - (L -0.5) Layer 2, Create another variation of BG to make the BG even darker.
1:40:22 - (L7) Layer 3, set to "Multiply." Go to "gradiant tool" under "paint bucket" and create atmospheric shadows.
1:41:00 - (L6) Details, Shadows Turn off (L7) to grab colors from details, use large brush on details after turning (L7) back on to "blend" the shadows to make them look less detailed.
1:41:47 - (L8) Layer 4, Shadows Grab local color again. Re-establish reflected light coming from the ground, lighting up the shadows slightly.
1:43:32 - (All Layers but "Background") Save all layers into a folder. Repeat Folder by dragging it on to "new layer" icon. Merge the copied folder. Create another copy of image by dragging it to icon.
1:43:55 - (G3) Group 1 copy 2, Use smear tool to create a "lost edge." It is a blur tool to soften areas that have less detail. Use this to "cheat" and hide brush strokes of less detailed areas.
1:48:04 - (L9) Layer 5, re-create fur over any overly smudged areas, add a couple finishing touches of details.
1:49:24 - (L10) Layer 6, Set to "Multiply" and add in a little more shadowed texture. Use gradient tool again. Add in reflected light again.
1:50:25 - (L11) Layer 7, Add in a little more texture into fur. Midtones, experimenting.
1:52:01 - (L12) Layer 8, set to "Multiply" and add detailed shadow.
1:52:30 - (L13) Layer 9, over the top, re-draw highlights. that were shadowed over.
1:52:58 - (L13) Layer 9, Crop image by clicking on the crop icon.
1:54:41 - (All layers but Background and Group 1) Layer 9, Merge. Also make a copy of Layer 9 by dragging to "New Layer Icon."
1:54:45 - (L14) Layer 9 copy, Blur image by clicking "fliter" then "blur gallery," then "tilt shift." Remember to merge before blurring. Make a copy of Layer 9 copy.
1:55:29 - (L15) Layer 9 copy 2, Push Saturation, by clicking "image" then "adjustments" then "Hue/Saturation." Push saturation by +18.
1:55:57 - (L15) Layer 9 copy 2, Smudge tool, change strength to 35 for lighter and 50 percent for darker, smudge in fur texture into painting by dragging it. Make another copy.
1:58:38 - (L16) Layer 9 copy 3, Dodge, Get air brush, change opacity to 9%, change "mode" to "color dodge," enlarge brush, change color to reddish yellow, very light. Lightly tap throughout the highlights.

Appreciate the work you put into this ! Thank you.
no way somebody actually took the time to make this comment, massive respect
ur a god broski
amazing job !
how do you even make this
Fur is one of my struggles and I’m so glad you uploaded this because I really love drawing animals. thank you so much Mr. Blaise!
This video is supposed to be about fur. Its so crazily detailed that I've manage to follow it and made my own wolf art. I'm so super proud of it especially with it being my first attempt on procreate with an ipad x
I see it in your profile and it’s so good !!
The way he narrates while drawing is so relaxing.
Yeah. The fact he can talk at all amazes me. I a, silent when I am focused on something.
"Now what we should do, we should save it haha"
I love your videos, Aaron! Super educational and you just have such a great, warm personality
As someone who have lost so much work because of neglecting the ctrl+s, my jaw dropped when I read that comment. And I realised that I had yet to hear him mentioning saving... seconds later, 3/4 into the 2 hr video he says it...
I have developed almost a nervous tick to constantly hitting my macro key for ctrl+s... Yes, One key is one less button to remember to press. :D
@@jmalmsten The problem is when you accidentally save it right after you stuff up :S at least in photoshop you can delete the individual brush strokes.
@@MaZEEZaM
Well. There's usually a Save Incremental alternative that saves in a separate file each time. Usually, how many versions saved is selectable in settings.
I don't have photoshop open right now but I think there is one there as well.
That would protect from saving fecked up versions at least a little bit. :)
Not using autosave in current millennium?
All those words are truth! ^^
You're picking colors so correctly and so easily, Aaron :) I can't pick a proper colors when I am coloring drawings, so I am drawing each different color in it's own layer and then changing them tons of times until I will be satisfied XD I wish I could train my eyes to pick colors so quickly and nicely like you do one day...
Aaron been doing this for such a long time and now it's such basic to him. So you will get there too😉
This is really late but does anyone know if he has any color tutorials on how to pick and apply them over other colors? Thanks!
once I saw another tutorial on how you could get better at color picking: get a reference photo and instead of picking color with eyedropper tool, you use your eyes and pick the color from your color wheel. Then compare the color value you've picked against the original color from your reference. You'll achieve accuracy pretty fast.
@@anikatasnim6001 wow, this is amazing exercise
I will try this, thanks for this tip
@@janjojose Hey, sure! Also I want to add that I've recently did a course created by Marco Bucci - probably titled as "The color survival guide", and now I have easier time picking up light/shadow colors and such. I definitely recommend this course to everyone!
I've always struggled with fur, and your video really helped me understand the process. Thank you so much 🙏🏼
Ok so from an under drawing to a photo finish in 2 hours...and its just a loose painting! Ya know, nothing too hard-core! WTH!!!
Big fan Aaron, again I'm blown away love how you capture such dynamic light in your paintings. Fur and hair are such a difficult thing for me and this has really helped me, thanks so much for posting this.
me: I’m finally confident about my art and think I’m a good artist
UA-cam: hold my recommendations
I can’t wait to dig into this course. Thanks Aaron, you are awesome.
Your videos are so incredibly helpful. One of the best things about them, and though your incredible skill and knowledge already set you apart, it’s also that you give us the whole of your process, and in real time, that really makes your videos stand out. Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge you have, free of charge, with your followers.
You make the art world a better place! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with all of us!
I learn so much from just listening and watching you--actually understanding what you're thinking--how you're thinking and seeing things and how to get it out onto paper. Thank you :)
hey Aaron thank you for making this world into a truly better place by sharing and spreading your knowledge and I am inspired to do the same with the knowledge I have and I am sure that many people will do the same. I have a lot of passion to wildlife thanks to you and am constantly learning thanks to all of your courses.
Thank you for your note!
Big fan of your works!! Thank you for all the great lessons!
Very nice. I’ve been working in Photoshop since the early 90s. Working at Disney and other studios but have been doing traditional painting for the last few years. This is motivating me to do some more digital painting again. Thank you.
Talk about breath taking. Wow.
I love how to see how everything gets more and more realistic, your art is amazing!
so many gems in here. I like how you describe the local color idea.
Love your Wolf, coyote and fox course!! I always have issues painting fur so very grateful for this demo!
Lines of Raja
That course is good? Is it thorough? I don't usually buy things that cost so much but I am genuinely considering purchasing that one.
Alyssa Hansen it’s rly good! helped me a looot, i used to suck at digital. You should consider it
Alyssa Hansen it is excellent! While it is not an anatomy course (if that’s what you’re looking for), Aaron Blaise is very thorough in helping you understand how to draw the animals and what is under the fur that is important for drawing them. If that makes sense. He breaks down each animal by section, Head, body, paws in individual videos and then goes further into how to do gesture drawings with each and even locomotion of the animal. I would highly recommend any of his animal courses, he is such a great teacher. They are well worth the price and that goes especially for Wolves, Coyotes and Foxes.
I enjoyed it a lot! I have always struggled with fur but my brain is definitely turning the corner I think, especially after watching such a detailed real time demo without timelapse so thank you for taking the time and share this! And whoever reading this; the wolves, coyotes and foxes course is amazing! Super informative, super helpful, super worth it! Not an understatement!
Men..this tutorial is pure Gold...!
Thanks!
Exciting and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your expertise
I feel so relax watching this
What a beautiful painting! Loved watching this, got so many great tips to try, THANK YOU!
Thank you for this tutorial Aaron: I took the time to follow along, copying and trying to understand this technique, and I've learned a lot!
pure art
Everybody knows that and you have proven it loud. But I must say it... "You are a great artist". Thanks for sharing your art and knowledge !!
MIND-BLOWING!!! 💖
Woke this morning with intention on doing some much needed grocery shopping...that is until I stumbled upon this video. I have been too captivated to remove myself from couch despite rumblings of my hungry stomach. Your mastery of illustration in Photoshop is astounding. Great work! I feel so inspired now.
Sir, that is ART... Respect!
This is amazing, thanks for sharing! It really shows how much an image pops when you get the values right.
Just so amazed by your work, thank for sharing. I can't wait to try this.
I'm in love with your art. It looks like created by God. Thank you for everything.
Stunning!
This video has become a fundamental guide for me in digital painting
Thank you so much for doing this digitally - this is fantastic and a huge help!
I love the way you draw Aaron, I look after a dog who looks just like this, he is getting old, so this will help me to do his portrait. Many thanks for this clear explanation.
Awesome work.
Idk how I missed the part when his drawing started to become realistic. It's that incredible lol, I'm trying to learn how to use brushes better and totally forgot why i was watching this. xD
I just simply love it! Very helpful, thank you!!!
You are the best teacher ever.
Beautiful work!! Awesome!!! Thanks for sharing your passion!
I simply don't feel the same satisfaction drawing/painting in photoshop as I do with traditional methods.
I'm only 30 minutes in and I've already learned so much, thank you!
I wish we knew what brushes you used to paint this, especially for the shading. My biggest obstacle I am facing learning to paint is finding the right brush for adding shading and highlights.
I am so happy I found your channel! I just got a drawing tablet so your video has been insanely helpful. Thank you! Beautiful work!
Amazingly helpful thanks Aaron
Oh wow, not a "hey check out how awesome I am" speed paint branded as a tutorial. Instant sub, and I'll for sure be checking out your classes.
I highly appreciate your use of the word "spectacles" haha. Glad I found this channel.
I really liked your little sharing of the drawing method through the painting process. That's something I want to learn from other than just seeing skills.
Fantastic fur demo Aaron! Really helpful. Thanks.
You are soooo well practiced your work is amazing! You totally inspire and motivate me to never stop learning thank you for sharing 😄😄
Aaron I’ve learned more from 2 of your tutorials....thank you!
tnx for a great tutorial that takes the art to draw fur to a new level
Thank you, Aaron. Great tutorial on fur texture. I noticed you used an overlay with a yellow color, that went over top of the shadows on the fur. Wow, how that overlay reacted to the shadows, you were literally making fur pop out with every stroke. And I noticed the dark background contrasted with the grey yellow for under the mouth, literally gave that color a lighter value. Seems to me, that it was similar to the effect of a checkerboard with white and black, but with shadow on the board a grey square looks white! Awesome technique. Thanks!!!!
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration. I feel like your method is so simple but very effective compared to my floundering attempts at painting fur lol.
Love the trophies in the background
I love how he calls the outline of the eye mascara, so cute
i love to see you drawing/painting like that! its so awesome and you are such a good teacher! Sensei!
amazing as usual
Nice to see u sending me class.
Thank you
I love it at 37:28. I can't wait to see it finished with fur.
one of the best art videos I have ever watched :)

I've always struggled with fur, and your video really helped me understand the process. Thank you so much brothers
Best tutorial ever :)))
Oh man, this is surreal! Amazing job man!
amazing. IMy head is spinning with how I can relate this to my own work. thank you.
This is really awesome. I am just learning. I have a big problem with not being loose in the early stages. Your advise is helping.
Wow!
awesomeness!
This is beautiful my style is more cartoony but I love watching/making realistic art!
awesome!!!
Thanks so much, i followed along and while it took many more hours and my final result isnt as good as yours, i am ecstatic with the result. Amazing tutorial :)
Simply hats off Sir
Aaron Blaise is a literal god

This was Very helpful, I thank tou for sharing such knowledge.
i think you mean eyeliner instead of mascara
Yes...you're right. I'm not much of a make up expert.
Ladies! Could we imagine if he were?? People would be queuing round the block to have you paint their faces!!
Thank you for your smart videos. I like the watching your way, and listening your great instructions. I'm glad that I'm seeing your advanced and accurate process... 👏🤓
The initial sketch are strange, but in the process, it's getting incredible! I'm learning a lot. Thanks
Thank you, very informative video.
Thanks Aaron!
Its very cool of you that you show how to do things without people have to pay for special brush sets and so on. Big thumbs up for that 👍🏼😊
That only took 2 hours?!? It takes me at least 3 hours to get 1% of this quality! Holy sponge cake
